Maybe they are not sure that you are you. Lol. I have ran into people who have either gained weight or lost weight and i wasn't 100% sure who they were at first glance. Just tell them hi, maybe your voice will help remind them.

This week, my kid took off running across the park area near his after school care... and I ran after him and caught him. He was as delighted as I was. I don't think he had ever seen me run.

Dointhis4me reacted to Matt Z in Confessional - Lets post our cheats/confessions/etc so others can see that we are all human
I figured it would be nice to have a section where we could just confess to some of the potentially dumb things we've done, pre or post op. Just so others can see we are all human. I want this to be kept as civil as possible, where people can own up to things without anyone else chiming in with anything negative, we all know what we did wasn't "right" but I'm sure we ALL have done something we shouldn't have.

    I'll start.

I cheated on my pre-op diet a few times. I also like to find loop holes and exploit the crap out of them. I drank beer for a week+ on my pre-op, because it didn't say I couldn't. I only stopped after I was forced to, because my wife asked my surgeon and of course they said "no"... boo. I also ate a whole slice of French meat Pie at my Dad's 60th birthday luncheon.

I cheated on my post-op diet/puree stage a bit too. I ate rice cakes and Protein chips or other veggie chips. Not a lot, but it happened. I "pureed" a steak and cheese sandwich once. I ate a few fried ravioli on my puree stage as well.

This past weekend, I had a beer. My wife and I took my parents out to dinner at a local casino, it's Restaurant week, so we found a good looking location and went out to eat, part of the deal was that you got a draft beer with your meal. So, I had a shipyard summer ale with my grilled chicken parm sandwich (only ended up eating 3 bites of the chicken and none of the bread).

I did all that thus far and nothing bad happened.
I understand the changes are to ensure we stick to our diets, but understanding that we are all human and WILL either slip up or just stray from our diets on purpose like I did. It's good to see that, it's possible to still live and be able to enjoy a few things we "shouldn't" without any negatives happening.

    So, what's your WLS confession?

Almost 2 years out, 115 pounds down and still losing. Working on switching up to lose body fat and build muscle - so I'm not super concerned about the scale number right now. Haven't had plastics yet - that will account for another 10-12 pounds.
I eat 100-120 grams of Protein a day and drink about a gallon of water/unsweetened beverages at day. I work out 6 days a week. I fence competitively. I work with a personal trainer. I have learned to eat carbs again- which I only do when I am fencing multi day tournaments because my body needs the fuel.
My body fat is around 31% which rocks for a 56 year old post-menopausal woman. I went from a size 24 to a size 6.
Your sleeve is a tool. But the biggest, bestest, most badass tool is you brain. Get you head in the right place and don't accept failure as an option.

Disclaimer: I haven't had surgery yet. But I will tell you what my surgeon's office told me. They said the reason that you are supposed to lay good groundwork and create good habits during the honeymoon phase is because after the honeymoon phase your metabolism starts to get wind of what's going on so to speak and starts working against you again. Pre surgery Your metabolism fights you tooth and nail to keep you at your current weight. Especially if you don't do metabolism boosting things such as daily exercise, proper eating, and drinking plenty of Water (which i'm sure most if not all of us are guilty of!).
There is something about this surgery that my surgeon believes temporarily affects your metabolism (the honeymoon phase). He believes that for a period of time it is not fighting you at all. This explains why people do things/eat things they shouldn't and still continue to lose plenty of weight. They dangerously believe that since it is such small amounts of food that their transgressions aren't going to affect their weight loss. And it won't during the first 12 months. But as soon as your metabolism catches wind of what's going on it's going to start fighting you again. If you haven't created good habits during this time then it will be so much harder to maintain your weight or continue to lose weight. The sleeve is not only a tool of restriction but also a temporary metabolism reset (according to my surgeon). Use it wisely. Use that time where your metabolism isn't taking notice of the copious amounts of weight you're losing to do activities that create a more efficient metabolism. Because a bite here and there of the stuff we're not supposed to have is going to affect your weight when that honeymoon phase is over if you continue .
When my surgeon explained this to me I really took it to heart and it makes me want to take advantage of that honeymoon phase to do ALL the right things. I am sure that is much easier said than done but I am hopeful that I will follow the plan strictly.
At the end of the day we are all in charge of our success, as the previous poster said if you stick to the plan you will not gain all of your weight back. Best of luck to you!!

I'm with you on this one... but recently my normal "times" have shifted and longer hours at work means... no chance in just waiting it out! I felt so bad last week, I mean, it was choking me out! And when someone walked in and did an about face before the door could even close.... I didn't want to leave the bathroom for fear that they would still be out there waiting to find out how the odorous offender was!

Well I had my surgery yesterday. VSG by Dr David Oliak. Surgery was done at Orange Coast Hospital, in Huntington Beach CA, and I’m in the ICU for a day because Severe OSA. But that’s been fine on their CPAP with my mask.

I’ve walked a few times. Last night and this morning. A little sore but really not bad. Still NPO which sucks. I’m so thirsty.

Looking forward with little trepidation for the next part of the journey.

    Good look all.

Hello all! I’m Heather and new to this forum but not new to the process. I have spent the last two years going literally through hell trying to have my sleeve surgery. I went through two separate programs only to be denied x2 with letters written by PCP and surgeons for final appeal, by my insurance company because I am obese with no Comorbidities. It has been a roller coaster of emotions and let downs. Last year I married my boyfriend of 7 years and had decided I was going to just be a cash patient and have my surgery in Mexico. My husband was very unsupportive and freaked me out so bad that 4 weeks prior to my surgery I decided to cancel. My husband isn’t overweight and one of those who believe that if I worked countless hours in the gym that I would “be skinny” and thinks that I’m cheating or trying to be lazy by having the surgery. He just doesn’t understand. I recently was diagnosed with RA and after speaking with my RA Dr. I decided that I was finally going to stop letting people discourage me from having this surgery, including my husband, and finally try to take control of my health and do this for myself and my babies. I once again will be a cash patient. I found a surgeon in my area that will accept all of my paperwork from the previous programs that I tried. I have my appointment with him on May 15. I have saved up most of the money for the required payment. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this will finally Work out in my favor! I will need all the support I can get!

    Venting*** sorry
So i'm in several other online support groups right. And i've started volunteering at my local surgery center support group too.
But lately in 2 of my other online support groups i've been seeing a ton of negativity and body shaming smaller sleevers/ by passers. It's so rude to me.
I just feel so bad for anyone that has to go through that. Someone recently posted something about people being in the 200's not needing wls, and that they should not post their before and afters.
First off, aren't we all having the same struggle? Both physically and mentally.
Secondly, nobody really knows another person's reasoning behind their decision. If your insurance is paying for it, it is because they are obese and possibly have other co morbidies. So i'm all for any and anyone feeling like they need to make a change to keep the weight off and get healthier.
I just think some people should attempt to be a bit more open minded or just not say anything. This post i'm referring to literally started a cyber war, which is so crazy to me. Nobody would ever judge someone for being much larger and deciding to go down the wls route...just saying.
I think everyone should feel welcomed and supported.

My story is similar to the numerous stories I read on this site. I’m 35 years old, 5’5 highest weight, 280, lowest adult weight 180, pre-op weight 278, current weight unknown (I’ll find out in a few hours).I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. Biggest one in my immediate family, biggest one in class, etc. As far as diets, you name it I’ve tried it from weight watchers, nutrisystem, phentermine , Atkins, 1200 calorie, etc. With the diets I loss and gained, loss and gained back more. The fat girl struggle is real.At this point I’m absolutely tired of being fat and yo-yo dieting. I allowed myself to get this heavy, I’m beyond disgusted and refuse to let myself get into the 3’s….
I’ve been seriously looking into gastric sleeve for almost a year now, the thought of Mexico never crossed my mind until finding out that my insurance company does not cover these type of procedures.
I canceled my surgery almost 2 weeks ago at the fear of potentially having an open surgery due to scar tissue from a previous abdominal surgery and had already completed 1 week of my pre-op. I ate normally after canceling and the 7lbs I lost that week weightreturned within a few days.
I went to see my pcp last Monday 3/26th and I weighed in at 278. He, addressed my scar tissue and open surgery concerns and his reassurance is what led me to reschedule. I called immediately after leaving his office and was able to keep my initial date.
I’m a bit nervous about is the amount of weight that I have lost and post op pain.
I’m in the airport starting to feel a bit nervous but nevertheless confident in my decision and I’m feeling even more excited for what’s to come .
