I agree! I am hoping that my diabetes will at minimum improve and at best be resolved. I am currently taking 3 different meds and an injection daily. I also have high cholesterol and fibromyalgia. Asthma as well. I have lost my energy and my mojo lol! I feel that this tool will put me in control of my life. I want to keep up with my 5 little grandchildren and have a longer and healthier life. We can do this!

Hi I’m 69 and was sleeved April 12th with hiatal and umbilical hernia repairs. On clear liquid diet and have lost 6 lbs so far. I have dieted for years with temporary success. My diabetes was not under control despite taking 3 different pills and an injection. My health was getting worse and I wanted to be able to keep up with my 5 little grandchildren.
I was terrified but the surgery was really easy. The pain was like a dull ache and they keep you medicated so you’re really ok. I was walking laps in the ward the same day and released the next. You can do this!

My bill was well over 60k between the hospital and surgeon. Luckily my max out of pocket is only $2000.

I had my surgery done so late in the year, I had already hit my out of pocket maximum, so it was free. Beat that!

My bill was $89,000. I had a 5 day stay and an extra CT scan. But I only paid $450 for the hospital copay. I don’t know how people self pay, and how some people only self pay $10k-$12k.

So last week I had to have an imaging test done. The tech had to line up the machine where it needed to be over my abdomen, usually they feel to see where your ribs and hip bones are for landmarks. She walked over to me saying "I need to press on you a bit to line this up", then she looked and said, "Oh, never mind, you're so skinny I can see where it needs to go." And I was wearing jeans and a thin t-shirt! She had no idea how strange that was for me, I still can't believe I was referred to as being skinny!

I felt hungry and it wasn’t because other people were eating as I live alone. It got better by a week out. Some of it may be stomach acid but I was really shocked!

The first 3-4 days I also felt hungry. I just kept drinking Water and it has gone away by day 9. It also may be from excess stomach acid. Talk to your doctor. I did lose 10 lbs so far so it’s worth it.!

cbf reacted to goldenbarbie in One year post op in 2 days..... wow (new pics for y'all !!)
I can't believe it, almost a year ago I was 316 pounds. I was nervous, and eating every horrible and unhealthy meal I thought I would never be able to eat again because I knew I was about to change my life on December 14, 2016.
I was sleeved on 12/14/16 and it was truly one of the best life decisions I ever made. It was not easy, from being in and out of the ER due to dehydration in my early stage.. barely being able to eat anything besides liquids/apple sauce for 2 months.. to now being able to eat honestly anything, just with Portion Control. I'm well known on social media, and people always ask me what do I eat, what should they eat, did I get additional surgery etc.. even on here as I try to respond to all messages I tell everyone the same thing: My journey will NOT be yours. We are all different, we are individuals and our bodies are all different. My experience was deff not easy but yes I love my results. If you are questioning getting sleeved, do your research and then say YES. I was so nervous about getting sleeved, I researched for months before I started the process. I'm so glad I turned my life around. I am literally crying as I type this because I am so happy. food no longer controls my life, I do. The best feeling is self love and happiness... I was always confident but now I truly feel happy. 100%. And my journey is not even over yet, it just began.
I will post pics because the few friends I have on here always ask lol! Love you guys. And I love all my sleevers. ️

    Hey all!
I wanted to post and update my progress and share my journey for newcomers.
I’m three years out of VSG surgery, start weight 240 lbs at 5’6.

My lowest weight after surgery was 114. Scary scary thin. After my surgery I could barely eat for an entire year and had malnutrition and many mental and physical barriers to overcome before I began eating again. It took a year to get my stomach straightened out to where I could eat solid food, and another two years to get my mind straightened out to where I was eating enough food.
Surgery like this is a big deal, easier for some, harder for others. Because we are a population that struggles with disordered eating behavior and many of us eating disorders, it’s hard to predict how it might affect you. For me, it leveled my life for awhile- but intimately put me into a better place.
My life before surgery consisted of constant dieting and deprivation with periods of intense binging on thousands and thousands of calories when I failed on the numerous diets I tried. Surgery was for me a last resort that I believed would stop this cycle and make me effortlessly thin forever or really just take away my ability to eat, because eating was a huge source of emotional pain.
Here I am at my lowest weight.

That’s some scary ****! I went through some very dark times after surgery that forced me to get super real about what I needed to be happy and healthy.
This past year I’ve been consistently rebuilding my health. I began doing this by saying no to dieting and calorie control. No counting, no obsessing, no weighing myself. My life now three years out consists of taking care of my health in a more holistic way. I eat in abundance, and I’ve recently began to be super inspired towards fitness and weight training. My calories average around 2500 per day although I don’t know exactly as I don’t count them. I’ve been able to go a lot of time without reading a food label or thinking too much about what I eat.
For me at this point weight has become something that I fight to be at peace with. I try to keep my mind off numbers and I’m focused on just feeling great and strong in my skin. I no longer believe being super thin is the path to happiness. Being able to eat and enjoy food, socialize without worry about food, and be in a healthy body is more important to me. My weight will always be secondary to those things.
I’m posting this to give you an idea of what’s possible long term. Surgery is a great tool in some ways but it comes at a high cost. It’s taken me years to rebuild my health and I’m still trying to get my metabolism and muscle mass back to wear it should be. But even without surgery I would have faced a hard road and surgery gave me the push I needed.
These days I’m happier than I’ve been in a long time and also I think, healthier.

Best wishes on your journey! And remember- you are beautiful right now. Weight doesn’t determine a persons beauty or worth!!!

I’ve been lurking awhile, but I decided the other day to create an account with the intention of posting, but I easily get distracted and didn’t. I’m doing it now though because I’m just super stoked that I’m down 18lbs! I’ve been struggling the last several years, yo-yo-ing and could never lose more than just a couple of pounds and dumb Water weight. It was time I take back my life and feel good about myself again. I turned into a hermit, only leaving the house for work travel. It was sad and it sucked because I remember enjoying going out and seeing friends and doing stuff.
Anyway, all has been going well. I’ve been able to add mushy chunks to my meals now. But I’m having a really hard time with getting enough liquids in. My drink is warm by the time I finish it, but it being warm does not make me want to finish it. Im going to use this as an excuse to finally buy a yeti tumbler. Haha.
    Oh, stats, I’m 5’-3”
    183 lbs day of surgery
    165 lbs 3 weeks post-op

I'm super discouraged and frustrated right now. I'm exactly 4 weeks post op. I have been out of town for the last week, so hadn't weighed myself. I thought I had broken a stall before I left. But I just weighed myself and I am up 2 lbs My total weight loss in 4 weeks is only 17 lbs. This last week my calories were higher, averaging 700/day, and I was more active than usual. The previous weeks I was averaging 350/day. At 700 calories a day, how the heck do I gain weight?

My surgery is Thursday the 12th if April and I too am freaking out! I called to see if I could take a Xanax the morning of! That being said I know that I am doing this for the right reasons and that this is a very safe surgery. And we’ve been pre tested by a million doctors who don’t want this to fail either! We can do this. Just take deep breaths in and out until the wave of panic subsides. Sending positive vibes your way.

Just an update I had the surgery on April 12th. He repaired an umbilical hernia and a hiatal hernia. Pain wasn’t bad at all and went home the next day. Now 7 days out and I lost 9 lbs already. Learning to sip lol. Thanks for all of the good wishes.

In 2008 I came down with chronic hives and battled rash and itch for years. I went on prednisone full time for 6 months and then a "maintenance dose" for a long time. I was overweight/obese to begin with, but my weight ballooned. By January 2013 when I joined weight watchers I was uncomfortable in my own body and very unhappy. In the evening, on a scale at weight watchers, my weight was recorded as 340 pounds. I did weight watchers consistently ( but not perfectly) for 2 years and lost 65 pounds. After that, lots of things happened - job changes, life changes - and I became less consistent with it and gained about 25 pounds back. Moved to another state and changed things up again and gained a few more, but not huge. Decided to start the weight loss surgery process in summer 2017. This morning I stepped on the scale at home (so yes, different scale and different time of day,but with a fleece top on cuz it's cold in my basement) and weighed 239 pounds at 9.5 weeks past surgery! I've lost 100 pounds from my high weight! I still have many more to go to reach my goals, but WOW! I feel so much better. I fit into my life so much better. When it hit me I just burst out crying, alone here in my study with my dogs.
Excuse me while I go whip up a Protein Shake and get ready to go explore a new part of my new home in celebration today!
