  1. Congrats!
nenes78 reacted to lvidacovich in 8 weeks post-op
Morning all! I'm chronicling my journey here so it'll be easy for me to find haha.
Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since surgery. I woke up this morning to 271 on the scale. HW: 353 (June, I've been higher before), SW: 327, CW: 271, GW: 210.
That's 56 since surgery and 82 overall. I'm pretty dang happy with that. Weight loss is slowing down and being sporadic - last week it was almost a pound each day and then I stalled for 3 days and woke up this morning to a 3 pound drop. I just hope it continues at 2 pounds a week or more so I can make my weight for Hawaii! Need to be at 250 for a bunch of the stuff we wanna do.
I had a rough week at work last week and had my first true test of my normal habit of going to food for stress. I worked out instead. I don't know that it helped me or made me feel better but I did it and didn't let food do any damage.
I feel like Hair loss is starting despite taking Biotin, collagen and using the Nioxin system. I'll let my barber take care of it next month.
Anyways - keep it up out there!

    Good evening everyone.
This is my weekly check in.
I've been on this weight loss journey now 16 weeks today and down 107lbs.
    HW 322
    CW 215
    GW 185-195
Feeling good still mostly on shakes everyday but starting to try little solid things here and there to work out what I can tolerate.
I'm 7 weeks post op today but 16 weeks since starting my diet.
Feeling positive about the future just got some loose skin mostly under my arms & armpits..
Will need to get into some kind of resistance or weights soon but here in Australia Its summer and heatwave of 100 all week 😭 so not in any mood to workout right now
Thanks everyone again for your support
    MIKE.

payments are what your copay is. For example I had to pay for specialist office visits each time I saw the bariatric team. Options class had no copay. For the surgery I only paid the overnight hospital stay copay. Surgery is not approved until the surgeon clears you after completing the program. My time line was as follows:
Cleared by PCP for Options Bariatric program (Socal is 12 weeks) 9-1-17 Orientation for Options program 9-6-17 Start Options 9-14-17 get tests and visits with Bariatric doctors, EKG, Psych eval if needed during Options Completed Options on12/7/17 Cleared to meet with Surgeon by Options Doctor on 12/13/17 Met Surgeon on 1/8/19 scheduled surgery with surgeon staff after meeting weight loss goal from surgeon (besides the Options weight loss) Pre Op visit with surgeon 2/23/18 Surgery with overnight hospital stay 3/7/19 Followup surgery visit 3/16/19 cleared by surgeon to return to work 3/20/18 Hope that helps

Correct and every Kaiser region has different requirements for Options. I have LA Area and the Options classes are 12 weeks. Of those 12 you can only miss 2 and they must be made up. These classes also have weekly exercise and food logs which also are to be turned in. If you do not complete them you will not "pass the class". Again each Kaiser region is different on their requirements.
Also for weight loss during the program they will take into account Kaiser documented weight loss prior to the classes. I had lost almost 7lbs in the 2 weeks between my PCP giving the green light for Options and my first weigh in on week one.

Stick to your teams plan. Its still early. The effort you put in now will pay off over the next few months. This surgery is 10%Physical and 90% mental. Hang in there.

It can also be a sign of being full, at 2 days out an once or two of Water and I was done.
I am 1yr 8 months out and when I start reaching full, I get the sniffles. If I go a bit more it becomes hiccups and If I don't stop there its game over. Good luck. 👍

I take it as not cheating, it's a conscious decision. I do food log everything, I put in my mouth. For Halloween someone passed around some kisses. I grabbed 2 and scanned the bag, and put down the 2 in my food log for the day. I only ended up eating one, and I savor that moment using a mindful eating technique I learned in my pre-op classes. The other I had the next day, and adjusted the food log for that day.

Communication is key. We all hit bumps in the road. There could also be underlying issues before surgery that come to light after. There are many articles on the subject of relationships with oneself and others after bariatric surgery. I'll post a couple links. Hang in there.

Two months out, Right? This is your first and only post.
Follow your food plan. If a sandwich is on your plan, no need to ask for permission to eat it.
Stalls can happen - Search this site for the topic stalls. Many reasons for weight loss to slow down. Log your food, stay within your weight loss calories/ macros, exercise. and hydrate.

This week marks my one year surgiversary.
I stopped losing weight at 6 months. I just stalled. I never gained back any weight, but I didn't lose any more weight.
But I'm still happy with my results and I am confident that I will lose more weight in 2020.
Toward that end, I visited the nutritionist this week to get back on track. My meals were still good with portions, plenty of Protein, plenty of Water, but some Cookies and chocolate sugary Snacks had made their way into my diet that I have eliminated in the last 4 days.
So here's to a new year in 2020 and a new chance to get back on track/stay on track with additional weight loss and increased health.

Wow, I just got manslained. *laughing*
First time I’ve worn one of my half marathon shirts to the gym. (race to robbie creek elevation half marathon) I’m feeling like a bad ass and thought no one could kill my vibe today. A racquetball player in his late 50’s and a substantial beer belly. walked up to me in the weight room. He had no idea that i was obese five years ago.
He said, I can help you lose your mid-section” He tapped my midsection with his hand. I backed up, “oh hell no!” you didn’t just touch me. I told him “I’m working with patty” (she’s a trainer) He gave me a back handed compliment “you are all muscle and making the guys look bad.” What a dumb ass, some people give me motivation to work hard at the gym.

nenes78 reacted to FluffyChix in 8 weeks out and it seems to take more than 5 oz
Also, please make your surgeon and RD clarify what they mean by "ounces." This was one of the MOST confusing things to me and it aggravated me no end!
I don't honestly even know if THEY understand the confusion they cause!
VOLUME is king in our world. Most often, when docs and RDs refer to "ounces" in the very early days post surgery, they are talking BY VOLUME and Fluid measurement. That means roughly we should aim for these volumes. People will swing either 1 step up or down on the time scale for volume. In early days when real estate is totally at a premium, we concentrate and fill that volume with Protein first. As we mature, we can handle other things in addition to meeting our protein goals.
When dealing with dense, solid PROTEIN in the progressing phases, it's important to go by weight, but it still needs to fit within the VOLUME limit for the meal. And this is where it gets tricky cuz 1oz BY VOLUME does NOT equal 1 oz by weight. That's why I still weigh my protein into a measuring cup first so that I know I get my protein needs met and don't exceed my 1 cup per meal volume prescription for my forever diet:
    BY VOLUME:
    1-2 weeks post op:
1 oz by volume = 2 tbsp of food = 1/8 cup by volume = 1 medicine cup of volume
2 oz by volume = 4 tbsp of food = 1/4 cup by volume
    3-4 weeks post op:
3 oz by volume = 6 tbsp of food = approx 1/3 cup by volume
4 oz by volume = 8 tbsp of food = 1/2 cup by volume
    5-8 weeks post op:
5 oz by volume = 10 tbsp of food = approx 2/3 cup by volume
    9-12 weeks post op:
6 oz by volume = 12 tbsp of food = 3/4 cup by volume
13 weeks to forever post op:
7 oz by volume = 14 tbsp of food = approx 7/8 cup by volume
8 oz by volume = 16 tbsp of food = 1 cup by volume
    BY WEIGHT:
1 oz by WEIGHT = 28.35g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/4 cup by volume (approx) = approx 7g of protein by macro/cooked
2 oz by WEIGHT = 57g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/2 cup by volume (approx) = approx 14g of protein by macro/cooked
3 oz by WEIGHT = 85g by WEIGHT METRIC = 3/4 cup by volume (approx) = approx 21g of protein by macro/cooked
4 oz by WEIGHT = 113g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1 cup by volume (approx) = approx 28g of protein by macro/cooked
1 oz by WEIGHT = 28.35g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/8 cup by volume (approx) for veggies cooked al dente
2 oz by WEIGHT = 57g by WEIGHT METRIC = 1/4 cup by volume (approx) for veggies cooked al dente

My job requires working closely with surgeons. I recently had an opportunity to shadow one of my surgeons in the operating room, which meant putting on surgical scrubs. I haven't gone into the OR since nursing school, and required, basically, the largest size scrubs on the shelf, and they still didn't fit well (OR scrubs are cut for men, no thought to hips or butts!). This time I wore size L and they were baggy!

I still have issues with judging how much space I need. I think I can’t fit through an isle because someone is there, but I can! Or I get pissed that someone parked to close to me, but forget I don’t have to open my door all the way to get in my car.
