  1. I'm starting a "self imposed" liquid plan starting with exchanging 1 meal with the liquid. I'm using slim fast and I freeze them and eat them like icecream. I don't get that sick to my stomach feeling as bad.
  2. Isn't it cool! I was just freaking out before I found this site. I was grieving for all the food I would never eat again.. and pigging out on everything. I gained 4 pounds! Now I'm a bit more stable, and quit eating everything in site. I've actually started a "semi" liquid diet and watching my food, plus starting to practice chewing (i'm a gulper). I count 27 times for each bite I eat.. very very hard!! glad to help out.. we'll keep in touch! Molly
  3. I think for most of us, there is a vunerability that we just don't want to deal with. Personally, I'm nervous, excited, scared, happy and every other emotion. I will be more than happy to discuss my decision with my family and friends as I start to lose weight, and change my eating habits. It will be pretty obvious that I'm not chunking down food and drink. Right now, I just don't need any negative responses, or anyone doing the old sabotage techniques. I work with some women whom are nice as such, but can be catty behind your back. Everyone has their own thing, and way of dealing with it. You have to find your own way, but this is a killer place to help find it! Molly
  4. Hi Drew. I started reading at this site about 6 weeks ago. I actually joined the site in April. I had my seminar on April 3rd, found out my insurance would cover it. I had to do 6 months of a weight plan. I've been at LA Weightloss for a year, so I'm hoping that will count. All the paper work was sent in 2 weeks ago.. so I'm just waiting!
  5. Hi Ruth! I'm pretty new here, and have really found alot of very useful information. Everyone is very helpful and supportive. I'm waiting for approval from my insurance company. Hopefully they will take the last year of LA Weightloss for my 6 months of physician approved diet plan. If not, i'll have to do that. What I do is just read the posts that I find I have questions about. I have elected not to discuss this decision with my family or most of my friends. I just don't want to have to justify my actions. I have a few friends (and my husband) that are very supportive of me, and at this point that is all I'm telling. good luck to you Molly
  6. You should definately tell your Dr. about the experience. I work in the health field and I can tell you that the Dr. does not know that she is being rude on the phone (which by the way is her JOB) The only way he will find out that she is making him (or her) look bad is if people complain.
  7. Hi all you tennessee people! I'm in Hendersonville just north of Nashville. I'm in the paperwork process of getting approved. I'm very nervous, but ready for the process! I'm starting to practice not gulping my food down and chewing chewing, chewing. Nice to meet some tennesseans here! I grew close to Knoxville... Go Vols!
  8. My insurance will pay for the surgery, but I have to go thru 6 months of a "physician approved" weight loss. I have been with LA weightloss for the past year..(lost 20 pounds gained back 16). I'm hoping my insurance co will approve that. The surgeon has sent in all the papers from my PCP, so I'm waiting for an answer.
  9. I have sleep apnea so I'm hoping that is my "condition" .. my BMI is 39. Honestly.. I would eat my self to a BMI of 40. Which would be for be about a week. I don't know if you will need to wait a certain period of time to re-apply. Isn't that crazy..! Talking about making yourself more sick and fat! Shame on insurance companies!
  10. I quit cokes and most everything several years ago, and pretty much only drink water. I do crave it, and my body tells me when I haven't had enough. Once your over Pepsi, try going with more water and less of the added things.. You'll be suprised just how much you don't miss all the added stuff. Actually now I can't drink a coke.. it makes me feel bad! And this is from someone that thought breakfast was a coke and a cigarette!!! Gave up cigs 10 years ago, and cokes about 13 years ago!
  11. Wow! Thank you so much! I'm just starting the journey. Surgeon has sent in all my "stuff" for approval. This is why this site is so great! You don't have to re-invent the wheel! So many great people willing to share both information and support!
  12. Thanks for the inspiration. I am not banded yet.. just had all my paper work filed for approval. I'm already trying to practice the chew, chew , chew.. which is very hard!! I've been in jobs most of my life that I throw down food and go. To chew each small bite 27 times is hard! But I'm starting to practice.! I will remember you and I'll try to not go there! Molly
  13. Bama, I'm so sorry. I wish I had an answer for you. That is a hugh amount of money to pay out of pocket. I don't think I could do it. Again, I'm sorry:sad_smile:
  14. good luck to you. I wish I was that far along! Molly
  15. wow. this is such a great site! I would have never thought about that! ty for the info!
  16. It's so great to read all the responses and learn that you aren't "crazy"! LOL! I have hugh emotional eating issues.. just deciding to take this step had tirggered some.. We aren't like crazy, crazy.. just kinda emotional! In the past few months I've had such "ah ha" moments (as Oprah says). And I'm 51!!! Now that I know them I have to make sure that they no longer control what I do. As my surgeon said he doesn't want to do surgery on crazy people. I'n not concerned about the phsy elval.. although I haven't done it. If I need more "help" from psyc I'll get it along the way.
  17. Hi Emily! I'm pretty new too. I've done the seminar, my PCP visit, and my nutritional thing. I've done a year at LA Weightloss, and my insurance wants 6 months of "physician appoved" trying to lose weight. My problem may be that I didn't go to visit my PCP each month. I'm scared, excited, and ready to go all at the same time. Gl to you. We may be doing all this at the same time Molly
  18. Wow. congrats on what you've done! I'm just starting the process. I'm scared to death, but ready to start the process. I'm waiting on all the insurance stuff. Hopefully my year at LA Weightloss will count or I have to do another 6 months of "managed weight loss". I have learned so much here. Molly
  19. Wow.. what can I say to you to change your mind. First of all my husband wants me alive. and the CPAP will keep me that way. My family has a history of sleep apnea plus I'm very overweight. Your apnea is affecting your health. I didn't want the thing, and have had to learn to adjust to it, but I wanted to live more. I started craving sleep, and the mask because it would allow me to sleep. I'm hoping that by doing the band I will be able to get rid of the mask, but if I don't.. I will live with it. I've had family members die of heart problems that are directly related to sleep apnea. Please try again! I was lucky that my insurance covered it, but I would have paid the money for me to sleep and my hubby to also. I didn't snore much, but do shallow breathing and restless leg syndrome. My husband said I'm much less "active" after the CPAP. Good luck to you.
  20. I plan on telling my work that I'm having "minor surgery" and leaving at that
  21. Hi there! I didn't read all the replys, because there are a bunch. I can tell you that once I made the decision to do this..(with hubby's approval and backing) I have been eating myself into 6 more pounds! It is the last step for me to realize just how much an emotional eater I am. I'm so over the whole food thing and ready to get healthy! We all need to realize (we being ME) that food is to make our body work and be healthy.. not for fun and enjoyment. Food is fuel.. not anything else. It can taste good.. don't get me wrong.. but it doesn't neet to be comfort. it needs to be fuel.
  22. Hi Natt. I'm pretty new here too. I can tell you my experiences so far. First off I went to an informational seminar. They got my insurance info and my medical hx. They verified that my insurance woudl conver the surgery with my BMI and sleep apnea. I had been on LA Weightloss for the past year, and I had heard that some insurance co's want a 6 month physician approved weight loss. I was happy that I had already "done that", and I went in to my PCP for an appointment with him. He would be sending the letters and the approval. I'm a bit concerned because I didn't see him for 6 months straight. It may put me back. My PCP said he would do all he could for me. The other thing.. Don't tell alot of people what your doing. It's just easier on you. so now.. I'm just waiting on the next move Molly
  23. Good luck! I'm going thru the process now.
  24. I'm starting the process too. I just freaked out when I started reading about it on the internet. Then I happend on this site. I've read all the good.. the bad and the questions. It really made a difference for me in making up my mind. I'm still scared.. but so are all the others on here that are starting.. and you'll find out it's OK to be scared. It is a totally cool place to be to learn all you want to know.
  25. Thanks.. It's really the part that is freaking me out the most. I'm already trying to learn to eat slowly and chew. For alot of my life I had to inhale my food at lunch and set up a very bad pattern. It's very hard for me to slow down take little bites and chew, chew and chew again. I'm also not the most patient person in the world. I hope practice will help.
