banded yesterday
I was banded yesterday and doing well. I had my surgery at 8:30 am and I had to stay until I was feeling better. Well I got dizzy way too many times and wanted to vomit but I didnt they thought that the surgery dehydrated me which they found it had so they hydrated me .. six iv bags later with sodium chloride and I was much more stable to go home and no more dizziness or that feeling that I wanted to vomit. So finally at 8:30 p.m. I got to go home.. yeah .. Now today Im doing fine walking alot no gas pains other than what I call my normal gas pains.. have been burping and able to pass gas easily with no problem.. so Im doing well and hope everyone else who was banded yesterday is doing well too.. oh and they weighed me before surgery I have lost 14.5 lbs on my liquid diet..

now what
Hi Tameka, I started my journey at the end of april and I am being banded this friday 12/19. They say it can take up to a year to be banded. So for me it took 8 months so almost a year. Patience is something I am not great on but I sure learned that I had to do what they wanted me to do. six dietician visits my psyche eval, my physicals, blood work , ekg's etc etc... takes time it will happen just keep positive Julie

Dec 19 band date
hi scorpio, I too am being banded on december 19th. I have been on my liquid diet since december fifth. Its been going very well, not as hard as I thought it would be, its day nine for me only a few more days till we are banded. I wish you the best of luck. In regards to weight ... its not weight they want you to lose... the purpose is to shrink your liver so when they put the band in its not in the way of the stomach... gl 2 u

Hair Loss? May not be what you think-
Hi lapband talker, I have some friends who have a thryoid problem and they have lost some hair but they have whats called thyroid disease Some people actually complain that rapid hair loss is the worst symptom of their thyroid problem - the thinning hair, large amounts of hair falling out in the shower or sink, often accompanied by changes in the hair's texture, making it dry, coarse, or easily tangled. Interestingly, thyroid problem was initially "diagnosed" by a hairdresser, who noticed the change in their hair! While thyroid disease frequently causes general hair loss from the hair on the head, a unique and characteristic symptom of hypothyroidism is loss of the hair on the outer edge of the eyebrows. General loss of body hair from areas other than the head can also be seen in thyroid disease. And you should be evaluated by a dermatologist experienced in hair loss and they can evaluate and run tests that may detect other auto immune besides thyroid that can cause hair loss For a hair loss specialist, visit the American Hair Loss Council website at http://www.ahlc.org/members.htm, or contact the American Academy of Dermatology, who can provide a referral to a dermatologist in your area. American Academy of Dermatology 930 N. Meacham Road, P.O. Box 4014 Schaumburg, IL 60168-4014 Phone: 1-888-462-DERM (1-888-462-3376) for information on finding a dermatologist Phone: (847) 330-0230 Web Address: http://www.aad.org If you are taking levothyroxine (i.e., Synthroid, Levoxyl, Unithroid, Levothroid) as your thyroid hormone replacement, and still losing hair, you may need to take action. Prolonged or excessive hair loss IS a side effect of these drugs for some people. Note: Many doctors do NOT know this, even though it is a stated side effect in the Synthroid patient literature, for example, so don't be surprised if your doctor is not aware of this.

Question about liquid diets
I drink carnation instant Breakfast with 2 percent milk and my Protein Powder. I use five packets of those a day with five cups of milk then i add my Protein powder and put that in a pitcher. I also have broth, jello sf,sf popsicles, decaff coffee or tea, sugar free drink mixes. Those are all on my liquid diet. and Water of course 64 ounces And I take my Vitamin and my Fiber pill to make sure my bm's are normal In regards to your question on bowel movements, I mostly have normal ones but 2 times they were loose. If you have anymore questions let me know day 6 of my liquid diet

interesting how some ppl are not informed more by the doctors/dieticians etc.
I have found out that some of my friends didnt receive the knowledge they should have from their weight loss clinics/hospitals. I think that its really interesting how much I have learned from my dietician,my physician, the surgeon and by reading alot of other ppl's posts on here and in myspace and in yahoo groups. I am so glad that I have had such great teachers. I always have asked alot of questions and Im thankful to all of you who have given me support and information. I just hope that when I am banded that I too can share my own journey with others who need more information before deciding on whether this is what they wish to truly do. I have some close friends who are close to getting surgery dates as well and we talk alot. They too are having surgery at smdc as well. I will be the first one to have this though and always thought we would all have the same times or near the same times. Two of them have things they have to complete and the other friend of mine is just waiting for them to give her the date of her surgery. She goes to another hospital st lukes they do things differently as we all know how each doctor differs. Anyway thank you for all of you who have put up with all my questions and I'm sure that I will have more after being banded on december 19th. Im doing fantastic with my liquid pre op diet. Its not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am very proud of myself and will continue to remain positive even when things are going slow. thanks for reading.. have a great day everyone..
