Okay all, I thought I would follow up on this. Over the last couple of weeks I have been wearing more revealing clothing - arms showing, knees showing, etc. I never said anything, but as Berry78 said, it was obvious with the shorter my arm sleeves and shorter skirts . It ended up that I could have had two heads, it wouldn't have mattered!!! All is good in paradise. Thanks for everyone's input.

I've read it takes the body and metabolism 18 months to adjust to the surgery. That's when u want to get down to your goal weight. Then it's all about maintenance. I'm 4 mos post op and I know the feeling of wanting to hit the goal before the body adjusts. So I'm looking at it like I have 14 mos to lose another 50 lbs. Establish good habits and get my gym routine down

    Hey bud

I was operated 14/01/17 so just over the 1 year mark, I started at 132kg and down to 74.5kg, the quantity restrictions are still there just not as small as when you first start so more socially acceptable amounts lol, the hunger pains which were my problem before surgery are still epic I eat because it is a meal time not because I am starving! And don’t snack anymore

The weight loss is slowing down but the magic certainly hasn’t stop, you just need to make sure you don’t slip into any bad habits as it is the year mark where you will see if you have made the correct lift style choices for the future.

I actually enjoy the gym now and my life has been give back to me!!

Any other questions give me a shout

Me too, I was scared off rice expanding in the stomach so I have not touched it, ask for my salmon eggs at sushi restaurants with no rice please. The other day I got to be snack Mommy at kindergarten and I got my rice cake snack they made, and I didn’t touch it, been so scared off rice, even already expanded rice in the rice cake.
i am low carb too and I think the carbs you eat are good ones. We need a few good natural carbs every day and every meal. Keto is great for people with conditions that need it. Low carb is fine for losing. And some days you will be in keto. There are days where I don’t get food til 1 or 2 pm. So that would be keto for some hours.

Go girl. I could have written this myself. I did 8 months of weekly therapy before my sleeve 2/6/18. That was also my biggest fear and still is. But I’m working through it. For me the biggest fear is
Failure again and everyone sees it. It’s humiliating and embarrassing and I don’t want to feel that way again. Esp around those who know I had surgery. I’m also good at losing, maintaining...not so much. I’m just sleeved a few days and doing well. Things are
Different this time. You’ve had surgery.
Changed hormones, restriction and wisdom for prior attempts. I quit smoking 8 years ago. After 20 years and tons of attempts to quit. But I did it. 8 years and not one cigarette. Try to recall something you had to do many times before you were successful. Check out my posts, you could have written yourself.

I think my fear is largely based on experiences where I have lost weight in the past (before the sleeve). In 2006, I lost 30kg (66 pounds), in 2010, I lost 55kg (121lbs), in 2016, I lost 35kg (77lbs).
And yes - you guessed it, I totally regained everything I lost and more every. single. time.
Don't laugh, but I actually think I'm pretty good at losing weight, but I'm also excellent at regaining weight.
I do weigh myself every single day. I've been in a three week stall, so at the moment, I'm very panicked about "failure". I have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder. I'm no expert, but I think a lot of super morbidly obese people suffer anxiety and self-medicate with food.
I take the point that we need to be vigilant but even after we reach goal, our lives won't be perfect (sorry guys!). Things happen in life, and that's when things slip. For example, the week I reached my goal weight in 2010, my father was diagnosed with cancer. In 2016, I was on a great weight loss run when I lost my job. I can't say that I regained weight just because things went wrong in my life, but it didn't make it easy. Weight loss/maintenance doesn't happen in a perfect environment where we can focus on it 100%, there's always going to be other stuff happening in our lives.
The key reason I got my sleeve was not to lose weight (if motivated, I'm confident I could have lost weight without it), but to make maintenance easier. I hope things are different *this time*.
Writing this post has made me reflect on a lot of things and analyze why I'm so afraid of failure. Lol, this forum is like free therapy!! I am going to try and be more positive. If I was brave enough to get the sleeve, then I'm brave enough to confront these fears and keep going! Feel the fear and do it anyway!

I am not skinny but the way my body looks now gets me a lot of attention. People hold doors for me, give up seats on public transportation and they flirt with me. However, it makes me unhappy. The reason is, I wonder in the back of mind, would you had spoken to me when I was heavier. Or, would you date me if you saw my loose skin out of these clothes?
The hardest part of it all is getting use to the attention. When I was heavier, and I dated someone, it was like okay they like me for my personality. Now it is like, "do you like me because of how I look or is it my personality."

I'm in my 30s and this is a concern of mine. There are some gastric sleevers on youtube who have had amazing success. These ladies inspire me like nothing else.... but I have noticed that some of them look much older than their before photos.
It does make sense, loose skin could happen anywhere and we've all lost weight off our faces. So I'm trying to do what I can. I'm taking Vitamins for skin, drinking Water and taking my skin care regime seriously. I've spent my hard earned pennies on serums and creams with ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C. My skin has also been dry since the surgery, I don't know if that's dehydration, the weird hormone changes or whatever. So now, I moisturize every day. I don't know if it helps, but it makes me feel better to try.
Bottom line? I think looking a couple of years older to live several years longer is worth it.

Apologies for my part in derailing the topic!! I can honestly understand and appreciate the different perspectives on some of the sensitive and important issues raised. We do need to be sensible on the internet. I think I'm probably going to remove my face from any photos I use here.
Back to the original topic, I'm low carb. Definitely not full Keto, because I do have sweet potato and banana or a couple of times a week (and there are net carbs in dark chocolate). I have noticed that my weight loss is faster when I lower carbs. I haven't had bread (other than a bite to see I could tolerate it), Pasta or rice since before my surgery. I know that fast weight loss shouldn't be the goal (if anything slower weight loss will help with the loose skin) but I want results and low carb has worked for me so far!!

I think the point LalaDee is making....is that sexually predatory behavior....isn't funny or entertaining to women who have been raped. Treating it like a joke, or like "it's no big deal...get over it"....is victim shaming.
So what if Lurkin Larry is a 14 year old boy? HE is the person who needs to be corrected if you're passing out corrections.
Why "correct" another woman for voicing her concern about sexual predation?
You are essentially saying...you have the choice to be raped or not. Which is absolute bullshit:)
Rape has nothing to do with having a choice. Why defend and accept rapists?
Fluff....I'm picking on you here a little because you took someone's comments and made them a platform for your political rant.... instead of just accepting that LalaDee has a different perspective than you do and is entitled to express her concern.
I'm doing the same thing to you now. Do you enjoy it?
Live and let live...that's all I'm saying.
And send the "corrections" to the people who commit the crimes, not the people who are upset about them.

Oh come on. I you. I do. But, this **** happens everywhere. Welcome to Al Gore's Internet. I absolutely urge you to do what is right for you. You do you. But this is life. There are pervs in life. We are strong and secure and make our own choices. We can choose to NOT be victims and have the chance to make healthy choices. The End.
Lurkin' Larry is either a letch or a 14 year old boy. His presence here is part of the human condition--sadly. But it doesn't mean that BP is an "unsafe place" to do before or after pics. That being said--BP is the INTERNET! Anyone, anywhere, anytime, anyhow should consider whether or not to post pictures to it for all eternity. It truly is your permanent record. Do you want your kids, parents, grandkids, et al to see what you post? That's how you should think of BP. BP is not an intrinsically un-safe place, and 1 perv does not make us all pervs.
That being said, I STILL have my baudy sense of harmless humor and am so thrilled to read these drama-laden threads. I jones for them. I'd like to read more of them--cuz they make me bust a gut laughing. I am SOOOO sick of everyone taking life so fuc*ing seriously. *sigh* I'M MAD AS HELL AND I'M NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE. My friend did the surgery and she looked older (neck wise) I was shocked that was 6 months after her surgery she was down 100 pounds now 124 pounds down and 1 year later her neck is perfect. So I think you just need to let till you skin catches up.
Also your skin is an organ take care of your skin I oil myself daily and have really good skin.
Olive Oil, Coconut oil, castor oil and argan oil I rub my hair, scalp, body, face, neck, arms everything feet it soaks it up I sit in my living room on a chair and soak it all up for 30 minutes or more then I shower (oh you can shave before you shower with the oil on its really good)
Your Skin is an Organ look up ways to take care of it and make it part of your journey

I'm also in my 30s now, and had been concerned about potential aging effects after having surgery. I lost weight at the speed of a snail, and I think that helped give my skin more time to adjust. My doctor told me to stop showering as much because I was drying out my skin with daily, and sometimes twice daily showers if I'd had a sweaty workout. Her suggestion was to just clean under the arms, the feet - the smelly bits - daily but not fully immerse in a shower every day. I use dry Shampoo to keep my hair fresh. I typically shower three, sometimes four times a week, and use an in-shower moisturizer, then as soon as I step out apply a body oil (Trader Joe's has one that smells and feels lovely), and after it has had time to be absorbed, apply body lotion.
My face became softer and far less irritated and dry when I switched to Korean skincare, which is gentler. There's a "beauty guru" named Charlotte Cho has a popular site with product recommendations. I usually buy the products from Amazon or a local Japanese market that carries a lot of Asian products. I do the "double cleanse" method of a creamy emollient face wash to remove makeup, followed by a foaming green tea face wash that removes residue. Then I use Dr. Thayer's Witch Hazel, which isn't Korean, but is beloved. I actually found out about it from a woman who is also in her 30s and had the VSG, who goes by Fit Miss Bliss. She said it made her skin "fluffy", in a good way. Then I use Korean milk lotion and finally a moisturizer. I may try to add in Retin-A, sparingly, as a preventative. Before I started the Korean beauty products, I had fine lines and wrinkles on my forehead, and they've totally disappeared now, unless I'm super dehydrated. It's definitely helped with aging. I am a professor and getting confused as a student now, and getting card far more often, than I did prior to having the VSG in 2015. I definitely recommend giving it a try.

Yeah... I'm definitely not skinny. Just a more socially acceptable level of obese but I'll throw my 2 cents in. I have lost over 100 pounds and can shop in regular sized stores now. I think people are nicer. You get better service in stores. You're less invisible (apparently the more space you take up, the less likely people are to notice you - it defies logic). They look you in the eyes, call you "sweetie". It's weird.
If I get closer to skinny, I suspect I'll notice more changes in how people treat me.
I hate fat shaming and this kind of discrimination. They say it's the last socially acceptable form of discrimination. The statistics prove that overweight/obese women earn far less than their thinner counterparts. It's really disheartening. I can't speak for men (I believe it is harder for women because we are more judged by our appearance) but as a woman, there are stereotypes you constantly have to overcome, that you're lazy or sloppy. That you don't care about your appearance. That you're asexual. Or worse, that you're the bubbly, fat funny chick!
