I had WLS to correct a rare-ish neurological condition that was believed to be exacerbated by obesity. I could call my WLS an off brand therapy for my Neuro condition but personally I'd be splitting hairs. Prior to the development of the neuro condition, I was relatively healthy for an obese person (no precursors of common obesity related comorbidities). But that flipped completely over a few weeks. When brain surgery or WLS were the modalities of treatment, I chose the latter. I have only seen miniscule improvements in the Neuro aspect but holistically I am better without the excess weight and the likelihood that I will develop the obesity comorbidities are significantly reduced if my weight stays within optimal range, especially if I don't have genetic and environmental catalyst.
