neyney1960 got a reaction from njgal in Worst Experience so far?
The nausea I had for several days post op was horrible. My worst experience however was the day after surgery. The Doc ordered an Upper GI and I had to gulp down that awful dye stuff! The taste was horrendous and on an already queasy stomach? Then they put you on this tilt table which makes everything worse! Once done the moment I got back to my room I was violently sick! It was so bad the nurses came rushing in. I will never drink that stuff again!

My one complaint about the nursing staff was that they were giving me ice chips not ice Water. When my surgeon saw that he flipped out. Apparently chewing ice chips introduces air to your stomach, something which I sure didn't need! There I was happily crunching away and wondering why I looked like a balloon ready to pop!

I was struggling to find a Protein Drink with enough Protein to fulfill my post op requirements yet not be so sickly sweet that it made my already queasy stomach worse but I've finally found it! I went to GNC and they have a line called Isopure that has a whopping 40g of protein, 160 calories, zero carbs. It comes in several flavors, grape, mango/peach, green apple, coconut etc but what is best is that the flavor is very mild, not super sweet at all. I wish I'd had these right after surgery. Love them! I also found the sub-lingual B12 and Biotin chewables

In my case my decision to have WLS discovered an issue that could have harmed me down the road so I consider it a blessing. I had my gallbladder removed in an emergency operation in 2014. The numbnuts doctor not only messed that up but turns out when he packed my abdomen( my gallbladder ruptured ) he packed it so tightly that in the ensuing 2 years my stomach and liver had grown together. That was only found during WLS. My surgery took an extra hour, introduced a lit of additional air into my abdomen and caused me days of nausea. I'm grateful it was discovered.

See for me they were just what I needed. Plenty of grams of Protein and a mild not super sweet flavor. I got mine at GNC.

I'm nearly 3 wks in, and a friend of mine had the same surgery a yr ago, she said best piece of advice she could give me was, only weigh once a month, otherwise you're in danger of becoming obsessed with weight loss. As I'm now weighing every single day, I've decided to take her advice, I'm hoping it'll take the pressure off .

I'm in maintainance phase and learning how to consume more normal meals. I usually drink Protein Shake in the morning for the reason you've stated-- frees up some real estate in my stomach. lunch is often tuna salad or lentil Soup, and maybe veggies and hummus. dinner is whatever my family has, but I adjust amounts accordingly. I use an app to track my Protein, carbs, etc. As per my plan, I adjust protein and carbs as needed to stay at my current weight and this allows me more ways to eat a healthy variety of food than when I was in the wl stages.

    http://money.cnn.com/2017/05/10/news/economy/aetna-obamacare/
This is not a political debate. Even prior to the current presidency the ACA wasn't working for insurance companies and they dropped out. I used to have many choices of companies in the first two years of the ACA. This year I had 2. And next year it sounds like only ONE and not my current one.
This is information. This year may be the year you HAVE to get surgery if you use either Aetna or Humana insurance to do so, as they will drop being part of the ACA.

You are throwing a temper tantrum right now because someone said something you don't agree with. The adult response would be to ignore it.

I think my story could be interesting for you to read. I do not "regret" surgery. I am glad I did it and have lost all of my excess weight. But it came at a huge cost for me. You can read about my journey in my posts. I have been asked many times if I regret surgery and would do it again, because of the difficulty I went through. The answer to that is still yes, I would do it again.
I don't think it's as simple as saying, do I regret it. I think it's more about realizing this is a hard process and it's also not a guarantee of weight loss.
If someone does wls and does not lose or regains- you BET YOUR ASS they will regret it. Omg. To think of living with the stomach I have now and also being at my heavier weight. Wow. That would suck. I live with complications but being at a lower weight makes it worth it.
And you can't know for sure if you will lose. I know a lot of people who did not lose much. Our bodies are all different. Our bodies fight back hard against weight loss through dietary restriction. They don't like to be starved. If someone doesn't lose it's because their body is really good at preventing starvation. Or it's their mindset- they cannot break the need in their mind to continue their learned habits. They don't know how to stop the process of guilt eating. It's not their fault.
My suggestion for you is to really consider the cost of this surgery physically, the potential you won't lose, your other options for weight stabilization, how much your weight really matters and effects your life, and wether there are other problems you need to face in your life that could be more helpful than weight loss.
I highly recommend therapy before and after wls from an eating disorder specialist.

The only people that post that are long term on forums are either really successful and living a whole new life so they are really happy, and people that have regained. The people that have regained don't usually stick around much.
Even people with complications usually don't regret their surgery.

The only regret I see all the time is people wishing they had done it sooner. I wish I had done it sooner, but I wasn't in the right head space any time earlier in my life to handle it, so I had it at the right time for me.

Yep, it's exactly because I considered most complaints to be those of cry babies that I thought I'd try my luck here. I mean, if anybody had a real problem with WLS and was looking to educate people on their point of view I figured what better platform than here... where most people looking to get it done end up, like you said, mostly newbies. I'm not so much interested in the "OMG, I can't eat 3 pizzas, 5 donuts and gulp down a liter o soda to wash it down" types... I was just curious to see if there were actually genuinely serious people who regret their decision.. 5-10 years down the road... I guess not. Another pro goes on my list then

    Thanks!

Just search youtube it is full of food addict cry babies who are unhappy with their surgery and still eating Pasta. Or you can search regret here and find lots of thread of unhappy people who can't pig out on pizza of chug liquor like it is Spring Break anymore.
Although most of those claims are just click bait, when you watch the actual videos, you will see they are happy with their results even if they never got to goal.
Forums are a skewed representation of life after WLS. First of all it is mainly newbs. I had surgery almost 2 years ago and basically no one that had surgery the same month as me posts here. Even at the one year mark they were all gone. 3 kinds of people post on WLS forums, newbs, successful people and failures/regains.
I'm thrilled with my surgery results, my health improvements were almost immediate. The weight loss is just icing on the cake.

I stick with grilled or roasted chicken when I'm out. I can get sick from anything now, not vomiting but I get into this stage where I feel nauseous, can't catch my breath and then have to lie down and sleep for at least 30 minutes. So I only eat basic chicken when I go out. Or crab cakes. I do well with crab and chicken. Which have been my favorite foods since childhood so I'm lucky. lol!

What is you describe is one of the reasons that I always cringe when a user talks about "starting this new life".
The life after WLS is not a new life. Of course there are changes and for some people it might really be life altering, depending on the level of (physical) impairment they were experiencing because of their weight.
However, when you're already holding a full-time job and/or have a spouse or family there might not be that much change at all. The job is still boring or exhausting, the husband comes home late from work, the wife is nagging too much, the kids are still getting on your nerves, you're still short of money, that damn knee is still hurting etc.
The health benefit is a really big one though if you're experiencing it. Don't play it down.
