My nutritionist said that you need 80 grams of Protein for women and 90 grams for men. Too much can cause damage to your kidneys.

October 28, 2016 I was 470 pounds and started my 2 week pre-op diet. Surgery was Nov 9th.
Today is April 29, 2017 and I was 320 pounds today. 150 pounds gone. Another 70 or so left to lose.
Surgery was the best decision I've made in years. My life has improved in so many ways.

I am getting sleeved on Wednesday and this is worrying me too. I will also be on a liquid diet for 3 weeks and that seems like such a long time. I know it's going to be hard because I'll still be cooking for my family. Temptation will be in my face everyday but I know it's necessary to make sure our stomachs heal correctly. We will get through this!

Given the cost of surgery, it really shoud include a free brazilian wax.....
However, there was no mention of it for my WLS, nor when I had my hip replaced.

I was on mine when I was sleeved. When you're getting dressed during pre-op prep, just tell the nurse and I'm certain she will get you pads and disposable underwear. I was told I had to remove my tampon and use pads.

Will say, those disposable undies were comfy! Lol [emoji4][emoji4]

Thank you all for your replies. It's nice having a group of people who are going or have gone through the same emotions and realizations that I am right now.

The odd thing is that I thought I would miss my wine or coffee but I couldn't care less right now. Just being able to share my emotions helped. Getting it out releases some pent up negativity that was just getting me down yesterday.

Tonight I cooked dinner for my family. I made panko and Parmesan coated chicken breasts with a cream leek sauce and garlic and dill mashed potatoes.

My hubs and my daughter sat down to their plates and I sat down to my half cup of mashed cauliflower.

We joked about what Thanksgiving was going to look like, if I'd even be able to get dinner down.

I laughed with them but it hurt a little because my normal is now different.

This moment will pass as we redefine what it means to eat and to be social.

ashes_202 reacted to evesta in Struggling to get the weight off.
I started losing weight in January and lost very well doing alternate day fasting. It helped me recognize different hungers but I could still eat foods I liked every other day. It's a good way to start and makes the liquid fast easier when you switch over. I lost about 20 pounds. I went to my nutritionist a month ago and she didn't want me to do the fast and Ive actually gained five pounds trying to eat "normal". Lol Anyway I'm on my liquid diet now and I lose if I keep to it. I have bad days but try and get back on today. Today when I went to my preop doc appointment I was up two pounds(my surgery is Monday!!!). I told the nurse that isn't much for me because depending on Water weight from my cycle or Constipation I can be 5 to 8 pounds heavier any given day. Next time I'm weighing naked;) lol Good luck and just do what you have to do to lose the weight and get surgery. You are almost there!

I was freaking out last week because I was 7lbs away from my weight loss goal that I was required to lose in the next 5 days. Problem was I was already on my preoperative diet and was losing only about 2lbs a week. My dietician suggested upping my Water intake. I went from drinking 80oz of water to over 100oz and started dropping weight like crazy! Like 3lbs a day crazy! I ended up losing 9lbs instead of 7.
Water really does make all the difference.

I'm 10 weeks out and it is still pretty painful to eat and sometimes drink my Protein Shakes. But it is way better than it was at 2 weeks out. HANG IN THERE! It does get better. I call my sleeve Gurglely Gertie, Gi-Gi for short! Hand in there and I encourage you to call your doctor for advice and reassurance on Monday! It will put your mind at ease and help you feel not so overwhelmed and as if you're hurting yourself or doing something wrong. Good luck and God Bless!

The post about the sliders from OutsideMatchInside is one of the best I have seen on this forum.
"When you see people at 2 to 5 years post op and they have regained, do you think theyou regained on Protein shakes and dense Protein? No, they regained on sliders."
That says it all. Nothing about this is easy......but I bought my first pair os Size 10 pants today and they feel good!!!!! Really good!!!

I've had several friends tell me I'm helping them by setting an example for portion size. A few of my closest friends know I've had surgery but certainly not everyone. Even Weight Watchers teaches to eat just until your not hungry any longer......not till your full. That has been a blessing for me. I'm not doing it because that's what's recommended but because feeling full is very uncomfortable for me now. I just tell people I've had enough and often take my leftovers home for another couple of meals. It's really no ones business how much I eat so I don't feel bad declining large portions or leaving food on my plate. If I eat something when I'm not hungry it is as wasteful as throwing it in the garbage . This was the best thing I've done for myself and don't feel apologetic or like I need to explain........

We would do it again in a heartbeat. It has saved my husband's life. He just had a heart blockage. He would be dead if he still weighed 320 lbs, and especially because his diabetes is under control. I am off Metformin and we are both off 1 blood pressure med each. My asthma is under control.

I have not told anyone I had surgery. I just say, "I am on a Dr.'s mandated diet. I have to eat less and I have to avoid carbs due to blood sugar issues". Anything further is no one's business but my own. I go out to eat all the time and it was a little weird at first, but people will accept what you tell them. I am 6 months out and 60 lbs. down and thank the stars every day that I did this. One ritz cracker instead of the whole sleeve is a joy only a compulsive eater can understand. Keep researching and soul-searching. You will figure out what is best for you.

I was explaining this to my MIL. The sleeve will eventually hold about a cup of food.< br>
If you put a cup of chicken salad in the blender, it comes back out about the same.

It would take about 8-10 cups of popcorn to make a cup of it blended.

About 2-3 grilled cheese sandwiches, half a bag of potato chips, etc.

This is why we have to pay attention to what we eat and how much. Restriction only does so much..
