This little lady will be our next foster dog. She was my first racer who turned out not to want to race...lol. She went in for her vetting yesterday so hopefully she'll be healed up and ready to come to our house by the end of the month. Got to spend the afternoon with her on Sunday and she's a lot of fun. She's going to make for an awesome addition to a family.

Thought it might be fun to share photos of our hounds and see what pets people have. We have a bit of a greyhound obsession. Adopted our first one about 6-7 years ago and been hooked ever since. These are a couple of our hooligans (yes there's more than these 4...lol). We started fostering with the group we adopted from a few months after we got our first hound and been doing that ever since. We've had about 50 fosters go through our house. Been a lot of fun and seen a lot of awesome dogs get adopted.

    Let's see your pups!

Didn't your doc give you a plan in advance with a list of what you can and cannot have? We all get told different things and doctors have their own way of doing things. Some were allowed lean meats, others (like myself) were not. liquids diets generally mean broth, speciality bariatric/protein Soups, shakes, and maybe things like Jello. The liquid diet isn't going to be tons of fun no matter how you cut it. It's a short bit of suffering for a lot of long term good.

Main thing is that you should be getting a solid answer from your clinic and not this website. Go with what your doc tells you to do.

Felt like I had a real NSV this weekend. My size 40 jeans have been way too big on me but have been hesitant to buy new clothes. Mainly because I hate to spend money on something I may only be wearing for a couple of months. Couldn't take it anymore and went shopping this weekend. Grabbed a few pairs of 38s and went off to the changing room. First pair I put on were still way too big. Tried a different pair and same thing. I couldn't believe that 38s were big on me. Went and got some 36s and they fit well. When I started my journey last year (around May 2016) I had gotten up to size 46 again.

    Still can't get over it.

Figured it's time to post some damned photos. Yesterday was my one year surgiversary. Before photo is morning of surgery. I was down to 318 at the time of surgery. When I started my journey I was 354 and 336 at the start of the 2 week pre-op diet. Currently coming in at 232. Ways to go yet and things have slowed down a lot in the past few months, but I'm okay with that. My main reason for having WLS was due to chronic sciatica that was destroying my life and thankfully I feel like I have it back again. I'm not the poster child for WLS but still happy with where I've gotten to in the past year.

Btw...my after shirt is really too big on me and hate that it makes me look like I still have a huge gut. I'm not brave enough to post the shirtless photos...lol

Wow. Sorry to hear that the surgery was cause for a break-up. It can definitely put some strain on relationships. But good for you on going through with it. I was a nervous wreck in the final week as well, but so happy I did it. Lot of support and info on here so welcome to the club. Good luck to you on your journey!

I'm only a year out but that fear of regain is always in my mind. I know 100% that WLS is only a tool and it still comes down to me making the right decisions on what to eat. Being on the forum helps keep me focused and gives me some sort of accountability.

Thanks for sharing your story and good luck to you!

Today is my one year surgiversary so I thought I'd blow the dust off of this thread. I had my one year meeting with my doc yesterday and everything is going along smoothly despite a hell of a start to this journey! Like a dummy I forgot to take photos this morning to mark the occasion so I'll have to do that tonight.

When I first started taking a serious look into WLS in May of 2016 I was back up to 354 lbs. I had to do a 6 month program due to insurance. I was at 336lbs starting my 2 week liquid diet, and 318 on the day of surgery. This morning I weighed in at 232. That puts me down 86 lbs since surgery and 122 lbs total lost. I still got a good ways to go and weight loss has slowed down significantly in the past three months. Lousy weather has kept me from walking much and it's been difficult to get to the gym.
Doc asked me yesterday if I'd do it all over again and without hesitation I said yes. Even with the rough start I've done more and felt better in the past year than I had the previous 3-4 years combined. Little bummed that I didn't reach my "goal" weight of 225 lbs. Now realizing that isn't really a goal weight any longer. In the coming months I hope to get some more fat off and replace it with muscle to get evened out a bit.

Anyway, it's been a hell of year and glad I did.

Two weeks to go until I start my new job. Hoping that since I'll be away from the desk more it'll get me to help being more active. My body is in love being at 235 lbs and doesn't want to move away from that for whatever damned reason. Driving me insane! Spring is on the horizon and ready to put this damned winter behind us to get back outside and do more.

You were one of the vets I kind of looked up to when I first joined the board prior to my own surgery. So sorry to hear that you're going through. I was well on my way to becoming an alcholic years ago thanks to a terrible job. Glad to hear that you're finding a support network and getting on the road to recovery. Best wishes to you, Kate! I'm sure that you'll get through all of this just fine.

lol...we have enough hounds in our house! Luckily we did track down the owner and got her returned. Was a lot of fun having her, but man puppies are some work! It's been a really long time since we've had a puppy. Cute as they are I'm in no hurry to have another one

Found this little gal running loose last night on my way home from work. Stopping by some houses in the area on my way home today to hopefully find her owners. She's a cute little thing.
But puppies...ugh. I forgot how much work they are.

orionburn got a reaction from Hannah83 in How do you keep from regaining weight and stretching stomach?
A million times this. It's actually easy to regain if you really want to. Eating slider foods and grazing all day on the wrong things makes for an easy way to take too many calories in and start gaining again. WLS is a tool that needs to be combined with a lifestyle change. Over time your sleeve will stretch somewhat (it's supposed to) but as the others said it's pretty much impossible to stretch it back to its old size.

    Last two weeks...

Me: I'm going to mind my carbs and lower my calories again a bit and walk some more and this and that and this and that...
Scale: Hahahahaha. Yeah no you're not losing anything.

    This week...

Me: Screw it I'm going back to my normal diet.
Scale: Okay you lost two pounds this week.

There's a lot of debate on the acidity thing. Honestly it comes down to how you tolerate it. I was allowed Decaf coffee as well right away if I wanted it. Generally the concern with coffee is with the caffeine. It can act as a diuretic and since the early days can be so difficult to get fluids down they don’t want you peeing anymore than you need to! But again, there are a lot of arguments to the diuretic side of caffeine. From personal experience the only issue I had was transitioning back to regular coffee from decaf. I am much more sensitive to getting caffeine jitters since surgery. I had to do ¾ decaf to ¼ regular for a while, then went to ½ and ½, and up from there. I’m a year out and actually thinking of going back to half and half because I love my coffee but it doesn’t love me back so much.
