Wonder WomanNJ got a reaction from kbellakat in Lightweights in the house! Any more people with less to lose/less BMI's?
I'm 5'2 and weight 210. Definitely over-weight but barely made the BMI requirement. Thankfully (or not), in the journey process it was revealed that I have sleep apnea and a hiatal hernia. I am now approved and scheduled for 12/21/16.
My goal is roughly 70 lbs.

That is awesome! I'm happy for you. I was super excited to get sleeved also - I practically skipped into the hospital - no lie!
I went through a short depressed state and now I'm excited again because at 4 weeks, I can finally see the results and people are noticing. I feel good and you will too - proud of you!

I have fibromyalgia which isn't classified as auto-immune but the symptoms closely mimic RA. I can tell you that I have never felt better. I was sleeved on 12/21, I've lost 30 lbs. and I feel great. I do experience some neuropathy at night - but not too bad that it keeps me up.

My mother particularly is very judgmental but she's so anti-fat that she was on board with me getting it done and VERY supportive. HOWEVER - now every single conversation starts with "how are you doing on your diet? Are you eating everything you're not supposed to be eating". So much for supportive, right? #annoyed

Wonder WomanNJ got a reaction from dvmp61 in 5 weeks post-op, How many calories should we be eating?
Thanks everyone! I appreciate all the tips. My nutritionist never gave me a calorie count, but I was just wondering. I am also using the Baritastic app and it helps to keep track of my Protein. My fat and carb intake are kept low and my Proteins I'm trying to keep between 80 and 100. They want me at 100 and sometimes I reach 90. Not so much other days.
Thank you all for your help.

A fundal deformity is indeed an indicator of an improperly formed sleeve. There should be none of that thinner, stretchy fundus left from your old stomach. Sounds like your surgeon is trying to blame you for his/her lack of surgical skill. What 'previous follow-ups' did you have that confirmed your belief that your sleeve was done correctly?
    Here's a good read:

Laparoscopic Repair of Hiatal Hernia With Dor Fundoplication After Sleeve Gastrectomy in a Patient With Intractable GERD and Retained Gastric Body Tweet 0 Share 0 Share Andre Teixeira, MD MBA MPH, Carolina Ampudia, MD, Samuel Szomstein, MD FACS FASMBS, Raul Rosenthal, MD FACS FASMBS. Cleveland Clinic Florida
Introduction: Sleeve gastrectomy is one of the newest procedures and one of the fastest growing surgeries in the bariatric armamentarium. Technical details of the sleeve are important and failure to adhere to strict technical guidelines may result in complications.
Materials and Methods: A 26-year-old female status post vertical sleeve gastrectomy performed in a different institution 2 years ago presented to our office with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) refractory to medical therapy. UGI revealed severe reflux and a hiatal hernia.
The patient underwent a laparoscopic reoperation. Using sharp dissection, the sleeve was dissected off the liver. The liver is cranially retracted. Adhesions to the anterior wall of the stomach were sharply taken down. Right and left crus of the diaphragm were dissected and a somewhat large fundic remnant was identified, isolated and reduced into the abdominal cavity. The diaphragmatic crus was closed posteriorly with a running double layer of quills 2-0 Prolene sutures. Anteriorly another 2-0 silk suture was used to reinforce the hiatus. An Ewald tube was passed and the retained fundus was then sutured with 2 interrupted 2-0 silk sutures to the lesser side of the esophagus in an attempt to create a Dor type fundoplication.
Result: The recovery of the patient was uneventful, with a normal UGI on POD1 without leak or obstruction. The patient presented to the office 2 weeks postoperative and she was completely off the PPI and no symptoms of reflux were present.
Conclusion: Sleeve gastrectomy is accepted as an effective surgical option for treatment for morbid obesity. Strict technical guidelines and an excellent preoperative workup need to be followed in order to prevent complications from the operation. Sleeve gastrectomy creates a high-pressure system that can make GERD unbearable for patients with hiatal hernia and incompetent lower esophageal sphincters. The use of an anterior fundoplication type Dor can be a feasible alternative for patients with GERD.

This is what I eat each day. (I'm the kind of person that can have the same thing everyday.)
Meal 1: 1 scrambled egg and 2 pieces of bacon
    Meal 2: 4 oz cottage cheese with 1 T sugar-free strawberry preserves
Meal 3: 1 string cheese, 5 ParmCrisps, and 2 oz of chicken or salmon
Meal 4: 2 oz salmon with 1 oz green Beans
Meal 5: 2 oz hamburger steak with 1 oz green Beans
Meal 6: 2 oz chicken or salmon with 1 oz green beans
    Meal 7: 4 oz cottage cheese with 1 T sugar-free strawberry preserves
That comes out to about 1000 calories, 19 grams of carbs, and 100 grams of Protein.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

yes, exactly. Like you, I need to EAT NOW when I get hungry or it is accompanied by a feeling of light-headedness and fatigue. Go Figure. Like you, I wasn't expecting to "feel" hunger, let alone hunger pains but I guess we will get used to it.

I have a friend who is tossing the idea back and forth - she says she's scared that something will happen to her on the operating table....because of her weight. I ask - aren't afraid something will happen to you because you're not taking care of it? She's my best friend and so I can tell her that.
Understand that the process that leads up to surgery is one filled with many, many, many tests. Cardiologist to make sure your heart can withstand the surgery, pulmonologist to make sure your lungs can withstand the surgery, gastric guy - psychologist and I think I'm forgetting another one. Not to mention the series of blood work you get.
Rest assured that if the doctor's didn't think your body and organs could withstand the surgery, they would reject you. I think the most important thing is finding a surgeon you are comfortable with.

YES - omg I saw that too and I nearly lost it. Granted - WLS is a tool for us but this process is in now way "easy". It takes determination, strength and valor to make the decision to go through this. It takes perseverance to not let our "brains" take over and fail at this. I have cried at times because my family is eating great tasting food in front of me and I want to throw my shake out the window but here I am.
We should all write in the Good Morning America and that chic from People magazine.

I'm so sorry you are going through this but can so relate. I too had the feeling of remorse. Those first couple of weeks are the absolute worse but I promise you - it gets better. You know, I think I was a lot more of a food addict than I thought and I think that the reason I was so emotional about it was because I was mourning the loss of food in my life. I know it sounds corny, but there is something there. Food was my best friend, my companion, my soul mate. LOL However, you slowly start realizing that it also consumed your life.
I'm at week 4 and I feel like the surgery was an eternity ago. Hang in there and just follow the instructions, it gets better!

Hi everyone, I'm a 29 year year old male from London and have always struggled with my weight from childhood.
When I was in college I probably looked my best but was still weighing around 230 pounds which is obviously overweight but life was ok...I had a girlfriend (she was hot ????) my weight didn't restrict me from most things (I would be able to go to the cool clothing stores and usually get into their larger size jeans and t shirts).
Once I started working in an office environment full time, which I basically have done for the last 8 years my weight ballooned up to the point I kind of gave up on it and gave in resisting the krispy kremes.
I actually wouldn't want to weigh myself
.. because I knew it wasn't going to be pretty.
11 days before surgery - On the day of my pre op assessment my weight was 155kg (340 lbs) - or for UK peeps - 24.5 stone.
After my pre op diet - on the day of the surgery my weight was 147.3kg (324.5 Ibs) or for UK peeps - 23.1 stone
I am currently still very much recovering from the surgery and can only handle very small quantities of liquids... and fell like my body is in a total state of shock.
Im more excited than I am nervous about what is coming next.
I hope to keep updating to the site when I have something interesting to share but I thought a little intro to me and my situation would be a good start
Also best of luck to everyone undergoing this journey it's obviously not an easy decision for many reasons but once it's done its done...and as of right now I'm confident I made the right choice for me and for the future.

Don't let anyone rain on your parade. You're doing amazing things for yourself and for others by sharing your journey. Understand that when people feel the need down play another's success it is usually because of their own insecurities. You can please them all babes, just keep pleasing yourself and your doctors. It's all you can do.

My Nutritionist (have a hard time using the abbreviation NUT for them) has me at meal, snack, meal, snack meal. Meals/snacks limited to 30 minutes. Then 30 minute wait and back to liquids. I find that drinking liquids solves some of the hunger issues but if I am still having hunger issues I eat a food that doesn't agree with me. Like cottage cheese, two bites and I'm done thinking about food because my stomach is dealing with it. Whatever works right.
