  1. I had my first meeting with my surgeon on 31 August 2016. My surgery was 20 October 2016. Just under 2 months. Luckily I was in the Telemove program at the VA hospital for over a year so that counted as my 6 months supervised weight loss program. But I still needed to get all the other testing/evaluations done and have everything submitted a week before the surgery. I got lucky.
  2. Congratulations! I am excited for you to join us on the loser's bench. My advice is to take it slow. Don't judge how you are doing by how others are doing. We all lose the weight at different rates. Try not to get frustrated. Don't weigh yourself every day. Try to stay on program and keep your eye on the prize (your weight loss goal). And remember, your WLS family is here to support you as you go through your journey.
  3. HOLY CRAP! You look amazing!
  4. I do believe that I have. I was just at the Fenton Post a couple of weeks ago for a fundraiser.
  5. I am pretty big into the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in the State of Michigan. That being said I know many people in the VFW across the State of Michigan. It is funny to go to conferences, meetings, etc and have people that you have known for years not recognize me since I have had my RNY surgery. I mean, I guess I understand because I find myself staring at my reflection in the mirror because I don't recognize that skinnier person looking at me.
  6. I was at Target a few months ago and I found a Weight Watchers digital blue tooth scale on clearance for less than 20 bucks. It does weight, BMI, muscle mass, and a few other things. I really like it.

I am so sorry to hear that. WOW! I would go to your Congressperson and the news media.
  8. For me it was when I realized that the woman who gave birth to me had the same issues that I had before she dropped dead. I didn't want to end up dead at a relatively young age.

    LOL
  10. That is how I feel about it as well.
  11. Congratulations on being able to pay off the surgery.
  12. You look great. I feel the same as you. I still feel bigger and when I see myself in a mirror I just stare because I don't recognize the person looking back at me.
  13. CONGRATULATIONS! and good luck. We will see you on the loser's bench very soon.
  14. My wife has told me the same thing. I am .9 pounds away from my surgeon's goal weight (which still puts me at a BMI of 25). I would really like to lose more weight but my wife said that I would look sickly.

So I use the VA for all my medical (I have BCBS FEP) just so that everything is in one place (all my records, scripts, etc.). I had to go and see my Primary Care Physician for my yearly checkup. Before you see the doctor you have to see the nurse who weighs you, takes your temp and blood pressure. While they are doing that they ask you a bunch of questions like, "Do you where sun screen when you go outside", "how much do you drink?" and now for the biggie, "Your BMI is 25.4, would you like to enroll in the VA telemove program to loose weight?" WTF? I went from a 35+ BMI less than 6 months ago to a BMI of just over 25 and you have the gall to ask me if I want to enroll in the telemove program? This from a nurse who probably has a BMI of 45 or so? My blood pressure shot through the roof and they had the gall to say, "Well your blood pressure is still too high." ce my surgery in October I have been at the VA about 4 or 5 times for different appointment and my blood pressure has been normal. Whenever I go see my primary it shoots up. OK, rant over.
  16. To the weight loss surgery patient slider foods are the bane of good intentions and ignorance often causing dumping syndrome, weight loss plateaus, and eventually weight gain.
  17. Most of my weight gain was due to medical conditions/medication. Don't get me wrong, when I feel bored I still want to snack/graze but I now go for a walk and it seems to take away the boredom/hunger.
  18. I just eat and when I feel that I don't need anymore I stop. I have never felt full since the surgery.
  19. My wife has been very supportive of my surgery. She does get a little frustrated (I think) because I won't let her do things for me. I would rather do them myself. It is nothing against her, but I have always been self reliant.
  20. Interesting. To me it is strange to weigh/measure your food. Thanks for the response.
  21. They shaved me in the hospital right before surgery. Don't know why they did but they did.
  22. Does anyone weigh and/or measure their food? I don't, I eat until I decide that it is probably enough, then stop. I have lost almost 91 pounds.
