Thanks for the support you guys.
They are still hounding me with emails, calls and Skype messages and I mean LOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNG messages. I spoke with my father this morning and while he wasn't excited about it, he was more accepting of it.
However, now I am scared out of my mind about going through with this surgery. How nice!

Earlier you mentioned that your mom may visit after surgery. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES LET HER IN YOUR HOUSE. You need to man up and tell her and your sisters to stay home and keep their opinions to themselves. Do not open their emails. Do not answer the phone if caller ID shows it is them. Tell them they are welcome to come once they have decided to support you, but if they are not going to support, they are not welcome.
It will be hard. You will cry. But if you let them come to visit you, you will be beyond miserable. Temporarily cut off contact and talk to them after you are home from surgery a week or so. If they call, your husband can answer the phone and tell them you are fine, surgery went well and you are resting. Every last time they call.

In the past I might have used that as an excuse to go off my diet, but I'm committed this time.
I haven't cheated at all and don't plan on it. Not this time.

Have you ever been responsible for administering anesthesia and monitoring someone during surgery? Respiratory rate, heart rate, blood pressure, plane of anesthesia, CO2 levels, body temperature, ECG, CRT, oxygenation, tissue perfusion and Fluid replacement are just a few of the things that have to be monitored. Do you know how many dozens of things can go wrong? Do you realize that one even one minute of lapse in observation or a missed signal could result in that patient's death? Do you know everything can go flawlessly like its gone a hundred times before and that patient could still die? Do you realize how much pressure that is? It's not an office job where a mistake results in a missed deadline or a typo. I've been doing this with animals everyday for the last 15 years, and believe me, no matter how routine a surgery is, anesthesia is still a complex and scary thing.
So if the anesthesiologist chooses to require a patients to come into the OR with absolutely nothing interfering with their ability to perform their job unobstructed, then kudos to them. It doesn't make them incompetent. It makes them cautious and thorough.

Thank you. And thanks to everyone who responded with feedback without being a total jerk. I didn't get a definitive yes or no from my preop team just a "maybe" so I was coming on here to ask what other's experiences were.

If you don't care about them, don't post. There is really no reason for you to be so condescending and rude.
You are purposely coming in here to belittle people.
When I had my cardiac cath, I kept my Polish on and they said it worked fine with polish. It is really personal choice of the staff and mainly BS. It isn't as dramatic as people are making it like if you have on nail Polish you are going to end up brain dead. Good lord.

Dude is not a petty question. Keeping your nails up is a costly investment, a lot of us spend $1000-2000 a year on it. Having your gel polish or your full set off can cause all your nails to break off and you have to start over. Being pretty is serious business.
    @@still_dna
Just check with them. I took my gel polish off the night before, I had surgery on a Wednesday and when I got home Thursday night I put my gel polish back on (I have a light at home), and I went on that Friday and got a pedicure. If you have to soak them off, you might be able to have them right back on a couple days after surgery if you are recovering well.

Do not go with the advice you get on here. You need to contact your surgical team directly since every anesthesiologist has different preferences. I absolutely could not keep my acrylics on for my VSG but I could for my gall bladder removal (different surgeon/anesthesiologist/hospital)

Absolutely! They can determine your oxygen level by looking at your nail beds. If you have polish on they can't tell. The anesthetist will be looking closely. Best of luck!! Mines in 10 days! Eek

People are a trip. If someone treats us different due to weight loss, we should kill them with a huge flow of happiness. We shouldn't allow nothing or no one to kill our joy of getting healthy

Smiles thanks, I've been taking an ambassador role and encourage people to ask questions.. that was until I got the.. "I thought you'd be smaller" comments. And I explain I've lost 42 lbs on my journey. But more importantly my diabetes is in remission. Then smile sweetly...thinking all the while "I thought you were smarter"... Lol I'll still be in the 300's haha ... I just laugh and smile at what ppl say.. Call them out but not infront of others that way it's not trashy like .

I have one coworker who just stares me up in down when I'm in front of her. She can't seem to help but look at me. It does make me uncomfortable but she's overweight also and I think she was just more comfortable around me when I was heavier.

No regrets here regarding having surgery.

I DO, however, regret 20+ years of obesity and yo-yo dieting. I do regret the irreparable damage I've done to my joints. I do regret 15 years of rarely appearing in front of the camera with my kids as they grew up because I hated seeing myself in pictures. I do regret all the vacation opportunities I missed because I was too unfit to run the dunes/ride the horse/fit in the roller coaster/hike the mountain/participate in the school 10k/etc. I regret being the fat mom in the room. I regret being a horrible body image role model to my two teens. I could go on...

No, I never regretted the idea of surgery. I was scared and nervous, but I knew it needed to be done to get my life back.

Just do it. I was more afraid than anyone, partly because I'd never had surgery before.
Unfortunately, I had some complications (bleeding) and required a second surgery to fix. But, I'm down 160 pounds, 2.5 years out, and have been at goal for 1.5 years. All health problems gone and my doctor says I have the body of an athlete now.
I'd do this again even if I knew about the second surgery ahead of time.

I cancelled my surgery twice, thinking I could lose the weight on my own, I dropped 40lbs and starting thinking I could do it on my own. Gained most of it back! I understand your feelings! I've been there twice. Now my wife and family are giving me their FULL support, which is big for me since I am a people pleaser at heart. This time around I know I NEED this tool to help me to be healthy again!

I had this talk with my wife also... she is all about supporting me but, I had to tell her that was like slapping me in the face..... she understands now and knows it is hard already, let alone watching and smelling that stuff.... good luck.

I don't really care what my wife eats if I'm not there. Being stuck in the car when everyone is eating is the worst.

Hey there! So I understand this perfectly. My boyfriend of 8 years went with me for the surgery down to Mexico, and I'm now 5 days post-op and he hasn't changed his eating habits in the slightest. Pre-op, this was really difficult for me. I really loathed him for it. Since post-op, I haven't had an inkling of hunger. While the food looks good and smells good, it's easy for me to ignore it.
Basically, what I've learned, is that I cannot expect those around me to change their eating habits just because I have an issue with weight and had to make a drastic change. Would I like for him to? Of course! But I don't blame him. And with your wife if her surgery is coming up in August, the chances are she is trying to eat what she wants and can now since soon she won't be able to. I honestly did this all the month of May leading up to my own surgery.
As for your kids, they may be young, but I'd suggest correcting that behavior now. It may seem harmless because they're unaware, but it could turn into more. And your feelings matter even if they don't grasp that concept yet. Besides, I'd guarantee once your wife is there and they do it to her it won't be as okay with her.

I mostly just want to rant...
I'm less than 3 weeks post op and my wife has already stopped being supportive. The kids call my meals dog food.
Wife has gone through the McDonald's drive through 3 times with me in the car since surgery, she breaks out bags of chips and other Snacks for movie nights, and has little regard for my new diet.
She doesn't seem to understand why this would upset me.
The kids are pretty young still, so I'll give them a pass. Wife is scheduled for surgery on August 1st, so I would think she would be more supportive...

My surgeon requires that we do a 3 day "practice" full liquid diet and I'm on day 3. There have been a few lessons I've learned from this:
I miss chewing! This drops the lbs - down 6 lbs Forces me to get mentally strong Looking forward to being sleeved so I won't need to battle the hunger. SO HUNGRY! The worst meal was when I strained a can of Chunky Soup and then stirred in unflavored Protein powder - that was not too delicious. Generally, through, I've been ok, sleeping a lot so I can try to get through it
@@DahliaIris, sorry to hear about the insurance news. Will you be able to get on a payment plan with the hospital? That's what I'm planning to do. $100/month until it's done. Best of luck (to all of us!)
This is something I needed, though, because I've been having a tough time meeting my pre-surgery weight loss goal and this has me halfway there. It's a good motivational boost. My next appointment is July 11 and I need to be at 240, so I have about 6 lbs to go - I think I'll stick to full liquids for 2 out of 3 meals and then have protein/veggies for the third meal.
