Oh No! I have BCBS too. Through Bank of America. I'm on my last month that but I gained 2 lb in month 2 also. At my last weigh in next week, I should be at a total loss of 4 pounds. This is because my bmi was only 37.2 so I was afraid to loose too much. It's like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't. What state are you in? I'm in the Dallas area.

Pondlife reacted to OutsideMatchInside in size of sleeve / portion stomach removed matter?
They remove the Gherlin by removing most of the stomach, that is what the surgery is. And the Gherlin part only lasts for so long, your levels go back up eventually, not to what they were pre-op but they go up.
By not having the full procedure, you are basically handicapping yourself. It is like buying 3 tires for a car. It is pointless. A well formed sleeve, once you heal has more capacity, eventually for some people up to 2 cups. If you have even less removed than other people you are going to end up with almost a full sized stomach in the end. You will just stretch the stretchy part out with over eating. With a sleeve you don't have that stretchy part left at all, that is how the restriction works.

If your biggest concern is being able to eat large meals post-op, then surgery isn't a good option for you. You aren't in the right mental place for it. You should be more concerned about your health than if you can eat a lot on family holidays. Think about what really matters to you long term.

Pondlife reacted to 1poundatatime in Telling people (or not) about having WLS
I'm still pre-op, but I've only told a handful of people closest to me. I haven't decided yet whether I'll be open about it or keep it a secret.
I don't feel having surgery is shameful, but I am ashamed of myself reaching the point where surgery is necessary. Does that make sense? I'm ashamed that I didn't have the will power to stop myself from reaching this weight.
Now, I know I need to look to the future and do what is best for me (and by extension, my family) and that means surgery. I believe it is the only way to get my weight under control.

Tonight was fun as I pushed all the meat and lovely vegetables away so I could strain a cup of Delicious Bone Broth out of the Crockpot. Honestly in the past I never would eat much of the broth but now it is a delicacy after making it through the day on Protein Shakes. This Upcoming Surgery has reminded me to be thankful.

I vividly remember telling my NUT that "I miss chewing" on many occasions during stage 1 & 2. Keep your eyes on the prize, buy yourself a pair of jeans in your new/next size, and remember that you CAN and WILL get to puree foods SOON. the Soft Foods stage will be exciting because it re-introduces texture and variety to your diet. Also, remember that rushing things can be painful (usually IMMEDIATELY), so take your time.
Remember that you are building a new relationship with food, and it needs to be a deliberate and intentional process. There is amazing freedom in being able to Taste and Enjoy without a fear of "running out" of anything. I still revel in being able to sit down in a Diner at any table! Embrace EVERY victory!

You know what? You have just gained a tool to help you going forward. The next time you are really tempted to eat something you know you shouldn't remind yourself of how upset and guilty you felt. Then you will realise it's not worth it. You don't fail when you learn from your mistake! You've got this!

Having WLS such as bypass or the sleeve, you should not feel actual hunger at this stage. When they cut your stomach they cut the hunger hormones and for bypass it will take a few months before actual hunger comes back. For the sleeve you may not ever get that feeling back.
So, that being said....you are either having head hunger, you are dehydrated or are having some reflux. So, start by sipping Water for a while and see if the feeling goes away. If not, call the doc and see if it could be reflux (especially sleeve patients). If you are already taking something for reflux then YOU are getting in your own head.
You will truly need to learn to deal with it because that never goes away. You have to learn to get your mind off food. In the first several weeks post op you really truly only need Water. All of us have Protein in our systems since before surgery, in fact some doctors dont even start you on Protein shakes until week 2.
Being dehydrated mimics the hunger feeling and it can really make you feel pretty crappy on top of everything else. If you are not yet getting a minimum of 48 oz. to 64 oz. of fluids you are likely dehydrated.

Pondlife reacted to WLSResources/ClothingExch in Is this yogurt okay to eat? Nutritional info below.
Before I give you my take (opinion) on this yogurt, I'd like to suggest that you make an appointment with your bariatric RD to discuss how to make good food choices, how rigid to be when you make them and how to read nutrition labels and ingredients lists. I'm going on the belief that your surgery career is young and feeling a little overwhelmed and cautious. You wouldn't be alone in that. Better to get some peace of mind and confidence than to feel unhappy.
Whatever I write below is opinion, but opinion that has served me well. Beware of opinions from many quarters. Loads of input from many people may might make your woozy. Another reason to run things by your RD -- not only the facts, but, again, guidance on making choices on your own.
Also keep in mind that I'm not advocating foods that you haven't been cleared for yet. That is, if you're to be on liquids, don't grab a sandwich just because it will make you mouth happy. It probably would do that, but all the rest of you will mutiny.
I'm going to disagree with the knowledgeable Inner Surfer Girl on this one. The yogurt you're asking about, approx 4 oz, is only 40 calories. You'll be eating one container, not dozens. If it makes your mouth and your mind happy and will help you stick to your overall plan, I say "Go for it."
Check the ingredients list. If sugar, corn Syrup and such things aren't listed, sugar isn't a concern. If the popsicles contain real fruit, such as the yogurt, they contain the natural sugar of the fruit rather than the added sugar you want to avoid.
Empty, to be sure, but only 15 calories. Again, you're eating one, maybe two, not a lifetime supply at a sitting. If the mouth is happy and a yen is satisfied, I still say "Go for it."
When I plan my meals and Snacks, I consider not only my daily calorie limit and goals for Protein, et al., but I also take into account that I don't want to feel under a sentence of punishment and deprivation. Losing weight should be joyful on all fronts.

Pondlife reacted to BobScott in I have a question
When I got home from the hospital, and the pain was still a big part of my day, I looked at my situation and realized that my life needed to be different. I was initially embarrassed that I couldn't do it on my own and needed the surgery, and this embarrassment was motivation to not squander this opportunity to hit the "Reset Button" on my habits.
I never have looked to be able to re-introduce bad foods, but instead I have looked for replacement foods, and activities.
This is the new Football Sunday spread. Lol.
Once I started losing the weight, I fell in love with the new "superpower" of a small stomach! I never wanted to have the craving monster come back in my life, so I have convinced myself that my addiction to crap needed to be treated as the disease it is. So I have sworn off of all trigger foods, and basically anything non-healthy. No breads, candy, Pasta, etc.
I have never heard of an alcoholic program that has a goal of reintroducing social drinking.. lol. So why does our program have the final goal of being able to eat some of the foods that put us in trouble in the first place?
Once you can find your "feel good" foods, things get much easier. For me it was home made Soups, yogurts, Fish, pickles, and almonds. Once you decide to eat to live and not live to eat, it just gets easier.
One day at a time, the future is so bright!

Surgery was Feb23rd this year... I was 381 and now 214 as of this morning. Down 167lbs

His comments may be from ignorance, or they may be from fear, they could be from alot of things. Only you know the dynamic in your relationship.
Having said that when you made the decision to have wls you made the decision to start valuing yourself in a way that you might not have previously. Keep valuing yourself in all your decisions about YOU and you can't go wrong. You deserve support and if you feel deep down that his interests are being put before your health you might have to value yourself enough to go it alone.

I have been here almost three years and let me assure you these people are experts at weighing food, counting Protein, carbs and sugar, and in general guiding thousands of people through stages and phases of surgery and the aftermath. It is not simple. It is so complicated even I don't get it sometimes, but I trudge on, trying to learn every single day. Everyone is not so sure as you put it but they offer sound and good advice to the people who need it. I still need it three years after surgery.

Now you know for sure that having a bite or two doesn't work for you, at least not with donuts. Probably other things too. Knowing this will help keep you on track. And, let the guilt go. Most of us have experienced way too much self shaming and guilt in our lives that we can change that too.
You have a whole new beginning.
