I was 67 and spent 8 hours in the hospital, and took one pain pill when I came home. I don't understand why some of us have pain and others not. I had a hernia too. Please call the doctor when in doubt.

I feel like a majority of my pain came from gas build up. Are you passing gas? Have you had your first post op bowel movement? After things starting moving the pain subsided pretty quickly.

I understand you don't want to get hooked on pain killers but you also should not suffer in pain. I had to take 4 mg of dialaudid for 3 weeks every 4-6 hours I was in so much pain. I do not do that well after surgery though.

You are given pain meds so you so not have to be in so much pain.

I understand. It can be a scary thing! I have been on pain meds many many many times in my life and I'm thankful I never got addicted. It is better to take them ahead of the pain because it is harder to get it under control if you wait until it's really bad. See what your doctor says though. You will start feel a little better once things get moving and you get rid of the gas and have a bowel movement

Don't wait till the pain is so bad, nothing takes the pain away when you wait too long. Take them as prescribed and you'll do fine.

I pass gas & have bowel movement. I'm a week & a half post op. It gets better with time but periodically, I get that sharp pain in my incision area & I still ca not sit long periods of time. I feel comfortable & fine standing & walking. Just follow the instructions on your pain meds. Mine were take 4-6 hours a part. If you think you're having an addiction call the psychologist the hospital might of had you talk to pre-op.

Pain meds are important because when you are comfortable, you will move more, moving more helps with the gas and healing process.

If you are immobile from pain, you will have a prolonged recovery.

Just take the meds as prescribed for the first 3-5 days at least. For those that have had problems with addiction before, let the doc know so the correct med can be prescribed.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
