Yeah, it's not big business that will suffer from increased tax. They'll just pass that cost along to the consumer. It's smaller businesses that might get hit pretty hard by a tax increase.

Of course it's insane! But I don't want the fed poking their nose in. Just think, if you had said that 8 years ago, you'd have a George Bush government making laws for, not just a state that needs correcting, but for all states. And I know how you feel about Bush. It's easy to fall into the trap of "my candidate is now president....He'll make fed laws that make sense". But remember, eventually, a candidate that you dislike may inherit that same power. Better to leave it to the states, and the people that live within that state. I personally feel like you and Law-ra do. That law is stupid. If enough people made a fuss to amend the constitution and replace it, the state would. If people don't care enough, well.....at least you personally don't have to live there.

Wow....that's one of the few times I've heard anybody say that! It might sound good, Nancy, but what if the federal government ruled in a way that you didn't like? Then you'd be all "Man it sucks to live here. I'd rather be in Canada". If the fed left more issues for individual states to decide, then at least you could decide to live in a state that had the same political / social beliefs as you. It's almost like political capitalism.

Steve, I perceive you as being very moderate. And nobody appreciates that more than me. But I disagree with you on this one. I don't think the constitution spells out muskets explicitly.....and by that line of reasoning, one could say that everybody is entitled to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, as long as those things don't require electricity, or medicine or the steam engine. That's too bad. My wife painted me with a "shame brush" awhile back. It tickled.

Well, that's a bit fallacious, Green. Big business doesn't care WHO buys their product, as long as it's being bought. If the price of doing business is too high in America, companies will relocate to, say for the sake of arguement, Mexico, or India (where they will increase the profit margin tenfold....because of the downgraded workers' wages). Most really big businesses market globally anyway. A good example of this is big tobacco.

Hi Bigmama. I have a pretty easy job, with moderate moving and position changes, but minimal heavy lifting. I had my surgery done on a Friday and was back to work that next Tuesday. It was pretty easy...

Hey Tobler. Of course it gets easier. 2-3 days after the surgery was the worst for me....then it started getting much easier.

If we went into Iraq for oil, how come we've never gotten any from them? Bush was hammered daily for not taking oil or oil money. Iraq used that money to rebuild infrastructure (and also to pay off the various tribal militia leaders into supporting the central government.....yesh what a clusterf*ck THAT turned into....but I digress). We went into Iraq because we have close allies (Israel, Saudia Arabia,etc.) and interests (oil, an anti-nuclear Iran) in that area. Conveniently, the leader of Iraq was a genocidal maniac... Wow, that was an abrupt turnaround, April. And big of you to apologize as well. Well said. Exactly. I don't always approve of what the American government does, but I am always proud to be American. That's why it floors me when somebody implies that they might not have always been proud to be an American.
