There's no need to move forward to mushy foods. Stay with Protein Shakes until you're ready. I couldn't gag down Protein shakes another day so moving to puree was a pleasure. Take your time.

    Happy early birthday!
I had my surgery October 7, the day after was my 35th birthday. I get it.
I'll be having a birthday celebration this weekend with family, cake free, and will probably put some pumpkin pie spice in my yogurt and call it a day.
The surgery is my birthday gift to myself and I don't want to do anything to ruin it.
I am looking at it as a tool to help me change my relationship with food and be healthy.
Whatever you decide, I would suggest stay on your surgeon's recommended plan of what you can eat.
If it'll be too tempting for you, I would ask to not even have a cake present. Maybe have a sugar free Jello or pudding as the dessert. Hopefully everyone in your circle will be supportive.

You can have saggy skin with any weight loss - RNY or sleeve can result in the same loss and same saggy skin. Not everyone with RNY dumps with sweets. You need to change your eating habits with both surgeries. They are just Tools - you still need to do the work! I would not choose a surgery on these issues.

Most recent NSV....being able to take a picture one time and not nitpick everything about it. Also having candid pictures taken of you at an event and not chasing down the person with the camera to delete the photos

Almost anyone can lose weight if they go on a very restrictive diet and exercise regimen. The issue is that for many of us - the clinically obese - there are factors that make it near impossible to maintain long term weight loss. No one, especially those of us that managed to put on so much weight that we're even considering surgery, would be able to keep up with that forever. The constant yo-yo dieting doesn't just cause feelings of failure - it hurts your metabolism and makes it that much harder to get any weight off the next time. And along with that, eventually many just give up and live with ever growing list of health issues, and limited life experiences, and die early deaths because they didn't think they had any other options, like surgery.
Long term, the Portion Control still exists, but the big part is getting help from nutritionists, counselors and doctors to relearn new, better habits that will last the rest of your life.
Surgery isn't a cure or a cheat. It is a tool that helps you to reach and maintain weight loss. But it requires you to do some hard work too. Good news is, you put the work in and relearn how to eat healthy and exercise, it will work for you for the rest of your life.

I'm freezing (and only 6 days post-op). I'm usually walking around the house in a tank top and underwear no matter what the weather is - and since getting home from the hospital - I'm all bundled up and still freezing. I'm getting ready to take a nap under a heavy comforter, a heating pad and with the space heater blowing on me. The space heater we have is very safe.

First and foremost, I strongly believe in the idea that we are what we think we are, so the negative self talk has GOT to go. You are a successful WLS patient who has fallen off the wagon a bit.
A failure is someone who quits, refusing to try again. You regained only 20 pounds and you are back. You could have waited until you had regained 40, 60, 100, or 100+ or you could have thrown in the towel all together.
    YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE.
Go back to your surgeon and see what he/she recommends. Go back to your pre-op diet for a week or two. Go back to liquids for a week or two. Start weighing/measuring/tracking your food and move your ass a little more than normal. You can totally do this.
You are not a failure until you stop trying. You don't sound like a failure to me at all.

I would not say losing "only" 100 pounds was a failure! Regardless of your initial weight, losing 100 pounds will have a huge impact on your health. The same is true for the net 80 pounds you have lost, including your regain.
As far as a starting place to get back on track with weight loss, have you tried going back to your post-op diet? You could do one day of Clear liquids to cleanse your system and then do a week of Protein shakes to reset your diet. Then go on to very structured meals like you did after surgery: eating 2 ounces of Protein, then 2 ounces of non-starchy vegetables, then 2 ounces of fruit. If you are still hungry, you can have 2 ounces of healthy carbs.

Loose skin seems to be a fear for many patients. Its that unknown outcome from surgery. You will not know how your skin will look until you reach goal. Some insurance will cover plastic surgery if you have documented rashes. Self paying for plastics is an option.
I can't afford plastics. I wear shape wear. I weight lift. The muscle is filling out the skin and I look healthy. (healthy is my goal) I will always have loose skin.
I would not go back to my obese body just to fill out my skin.

I am no expert, but from what I have experienced and seen, weight loss is weight loss. The rate of weight loss has no impact on loose skin. Now, that said, it can take up to a year after weight loss for your skin to "catch up" and shrink as much as it's going to, but it will catch up to whatever its potential it no matter how you lose the weight.
The actually loose skin amount is based on several things; your age, genetics, your level of obesity and how long you carried the excess weight.

No matter what? Loose skin looks better than filled out skin in a great pair of jeans, so....

KristenLe got a reaction from pjdees in Surgeon says I should only focus on losing 50-70% of excess weight -Boo!
@@Omieliz I think you have unrealistic expectations to some extent but it doesn't mean you can't lose more than 50-70% of your excess weight. Your surgeon is going to tell you the norm - some lose less - some lose more! I would love to lose 100% of my excess weight but I'm not setting myself up to be disappointed. I have realistic goals and if I can surpass them - bonus! He's not going to set you up to feel like a failure. Try not looking that far ahead - have smaller goals leading up to a bigger goal. You have done great so far - just keep it up! Measure your food - Protein first and avoid foods like Pasta, bread, rice, cake, Cookies, crackers, etc. You are the one in control!

You are in the dreaded three week stall that 99% of us went through. In my opinion, there isn't squat you can do about it but ride it out. Your body is in complete control right now, and will be for several months.
Further out from surgery? That's when there are things you can do to help stalls along like increasing calories and lowering carbs. This is the time you concentrate on Protein and fluids and just healing up.
Go with the flow for now and let it happen. Its not Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. It's major surgery along with a lifestyle change that takes time to ease into. The weight will come off at your body's own pace. Promise.

I also have FIBROMYALGIA, OSTEOARTHRITIS and the beginning of RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS. I had my RNY on July 2, 2013. I lost 132#'s in 6 months. I have maintained my weight loss with just a 8# gain. So I have maintained 124#'s for 2 and 1/2 years. I am able to walk which I do 3 to 4 times a week and walk 4 to 5 miles each time. I would have never been able to do this before!! Everything about my health has improved. I was on 100units of insulin 2 times a day plus 500mg of Metformin 2 times a day. I use to take 12 different medications now I take 4, Three High Blood Pressure medications, which I had hoped to get rid of but I just can't seem to let my stress go. If you figure it out let me know. 1 for my thyroid. Plus my Vitamins. Everything is totally AWESOMENESS now!! One of the best things II ever did for myself. Good Luck Get out there and LIVE your life to the fullest!!

I have RA as well, and years of prednisone and the inability to move caused huge weight gain.
Research and anecdotal evidence showed RA pts who had bypass showed signs of remission. So, I had it and have been symptom free since March 23!!
    Good job!!!
I'm down from 283 to 160, almost to goal!

Hi everyone. So far I have chosen not to post pics etc of my weight loss. But now I'm ready.....
I have lost over 44kgs since October last year.
However, more importantly being a chronic renal patient, and having rheumatoid arthritis and AS....the bariatric surgery was a godsend for me. My renal function has improved and rheumatoid and AS not currently causing any concern either...
I can only hope my story helps to inspire others....
My sleep apnoea is resolving as well.
Looking forward to continuing this positive power of recovery that I'm on.....

Stay with purees or soft foods. The important thing will be to measure portion sizes and stick with recommended amounts. Take it slow - there's no rush.
