Air bubble in band. Significance?
I went for my second fill, they took all the Fluid out because it had a slight bit of blood in it, she said that happens she replaced it and added a cc more. I have really good restriction right now. Can only eat 4 to 8 oz. of food at a time. I know when I lose more weight to call and get another fill. My nurse/practitioner said usually you need a fill every 4 to 6 weeks. You can tell when your able eat more...than you should. To watch for that symptom. And get a fill asap so you won't go off track.

How many sizes did u go down vs. the amt you've lost? curious..
I started at 229 and size 20-22 in pants and shirts and sweaters and such. My legs are smaller then the rest of my body. Now I got 14 P Ryder slimming jeans at Wal-Mart the other day...yea. My tops are big but I can still wear them around. I did get two new tops size 18. They are a tad tight. My boobs are just starting to shrink. My tummy is still a bit big. It's hanging like an old apron...LOL But it's shrinking..... I tried on a dress w/jacket I got at Coldwater Creek size 16P a couple of years ago and it's just a bit small in the bust but fits the rest of me. 10 more pounds and it will fit. I find the Petite sizes seem small than womans sizes in dresses and tops. But I need them for length and sleeve length. I am slowly packing away my "fat" clothing. I am lucky that I am retired and don't need work clothes. If I go back to work which I may have to do with this economy I will get an easy wardrobe of mix and match. I am so very happy, I had dinner tonight, made a big roast beef dinner for the family...with all the fixings. I had one small slice of RB 3 oz., two small spoons of mashed potatoes. One small half of a acorn squash. Two small spoonfulls of green beans, one roll/light butter. I ate all the meat, and only had a bite or two of everything else and I felt really really strong restriction. So I stopped eating. I am full with maybe 1/4 or less than I normally would have eaten. I hope to be able to get to 170 by the New Year. Which will leave me with 40 pounds to lose in 2009. With the way the clothes are made today, I have no idea what I will be wearing when I hit 130. When I was 110 I wore a size 3 or 5, but that was in 1970's LOL.

For those with BMI 35-40?
Hey I had the same problem, went to first meeting and I was one of the "thinnest" there at 229. I was looked apon with dirty looks by the people who were much heavier. Hey I felt like saying, I don't want to end up in a wheelchair and on oxygen and have more life threatening morbities. So I am doing it NOW....before my BMI is 50 or above. I just go along now and usually when I tell someone and hey I don't mind doing it. People are fascinated and most are very happy and say how great I am looking. The people who are overweight want to ask all sorts of questions and I am happy to answer them. They get such a look of hope on their faces I tell them to please look into it. I hope I have helped a few decide to check out WLS.

Things People Pass Off For Compliments and Things Skinny People Say That Piss You Off
I have gotten remarks like...you used to be so skinny (like when I was 22 and 103 lbs. I was sickly and most probably a bit anorexic although it wasn't called that in 1970. I gained the weight in my early 40's and 50's. Now that I am 60 it's time to get healthy. I have been lucky most of my family is very very supportive and so have most of my friends. I just think that people are jealous and want you to stay fat then you won't be a threat to them in some way. Do what you want to do and the hell with them I say.

Don't be afriad to ask for a fill
OH so sorry you have had a problem, My clinic is great, I had first fill Sept and felt a bit of restriction. Not much. Then a week ago I started feeling none. So I called and they did a second fill this past Thursday. They told me to call whenever I want...and they will see what they can do, they like to wait at least 3 weeks between fillings.

What happened to your face?
LOL Maincat you look great...time for Grecian formula LOL just kidding. Hey I lost one chin, one more to go...and I saw my collarbones this week and can feel my hip bones. My face looks younger too. doing facial exercises to try to keep it from falling I hope they work. I need a new haircut next week, before my Nov. picture. I am taking one photo a month and putting it in my album before and after. Amazing how you change totally. inside and out. I am seeing the woman I used to be come back. I don't think I will get to 110 but close is fine with me 120-130 will be wonderful.

To weigh or not to wiegh?
I try not to weigh myself every day but I do sometimes. If I am feeling not good about the weight loss I will only do it on Friday. I was at a plateau for 2 weeks fluctuating between 190 and 188 drove me crazy, I finally hit 184.4 and feel good this week, I had a fill, I won't weight myself till next Friday. I want to be 180 by next Friday. And 170 by Christmas.

To Tell or Not to Tell, That is the Question.
If you don't' want to tell her just say you have a tummy virus and not feeling well for a few days.

I am over my plateau for the past two weeks....I lost 3lbs. 6 oz. the past week......I am averaging a tad over 2 lbs. a week. Which is what they say is the best loss not too fast or too slow.

OUCH! Port was hard to find at last fill.....
I had my second fill. It was a bit hard to find the port since it tipped she said that can happen with weight loss, it did not really hurt. She took all the solution out and put new saline back in with a 1 cc more so I have 3cc's now. The old fill had a trace of blood in it she said this can happen. She would rather put new saline in. They were very pleased with my weight loss and how I felt and looked. Good Day today. Eating pureed chicken and rice Healthy Choice Soup. Just got back from Water aerobics.

restriction: how much are you able to eat
I had my second fill today. They took out all the other fill and put in fresh saline. It was a bit hard cause my port shifted due to my weight loss. But it was bearable. They are pleased with my progress. I have very little restriction right now. She said one or two more fills will most likely get me to my sweet spot but they don't like to fill it too much. I am on liquid and mushies for 2 days and will extend it to maybe 5. I want to jump start my weight loss before the holidays. So far I am happy with the band and what it has done for me. I am off to Water aerobics in 20 minutes and look forward to it.

Are We ready for a Black President?
My husband and I are retired, after working 30 years and more on our careers. We give to charities and help when we have the extra money. We pay our fair share of taxes. There may be some poor who use the system, but the majority of the poor I have met hate being poor and don't' want handouts. I abhor anyone rich or poor who tries to beat the system. I have no contempt for hard working people I am one of them. But I know that I have been lucky to have a good job over the years and a good income, not rich by any means. I said it's a tax write off for the wealthy among us, not the middle class. Or are you very wealthy? If you are and you do what you say your an exception. I see a lot of people here who have to go into debt to pay for their surgeries I think that is horrible. I am lucky to have good insurance, and my husband and I pay a lot for it. No vacations for us, the money goes to our health right now. We are too young for medicare. You have a right to your opinion and even though I don't agree with it. It's your right. I have a right to mine. We agree to disagree on this. Too many people have been bamboozled by the right, while they laugh at us "common folks"
-
Are We ready for a Black President?
So we should let the sick and poor die according to some people, not very "Christian" of you. Jesus said to take care of the less fortunate didn't he?????? I don't want hand outs but a hand "up" for people having problems is a good thing. As far as the redistribution of wreath, that has been going on since income tax, except now the rich pay less than they did under GWB's revised tax code, all Obama wants is to go back to the Clinton tax code for the wealthy. I dont' think that's socialism. It's paying a fair share, how many times have we heard about rich corporations and people paying NO TAXES because of loopholes, and brag about it. That is NOT FAIR to any of us middle income folks who pay the majority of taxes. The right wing has bamboozled us all over the years and we let them get away with it while they laugh at us. From my dealing with wealthy people some good some bad, they seem to have contempt for everyone who is not rich. Sure they may give to charity but mainly because it's a tax write off. Oh there are a few good ones.. like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, but there are way too may bad ones. We don't' hear about them often, they are silent in their contempt. I hope we as a nation can support Obama and give him a fair chance to undo the total mess GWB got us into over the past 8 years. It will take time.

Dr told me something I wasn't aware of!
Wow congratulations, great job. Heck I will lose whatever I can. I had almost 3 weeks with no real weight loss, and today bam...down almost 3 lbs. this week. I am having my second fill this afternoon. My doctor starts with no fill at surgery and works from there. So I hope I get some restriction this time. I guess as you lose the weight your band gets a bit loose? At least that's what I thought. I am almost half way there now I hope to be down to 180 by Thanksgiving and 170 by Christmas but if I don't make that fine...it will come off eventually. Again great job and congrats....I bought new jeans yesterday size....ta da....14 Petite Riders slimming jeans how cool is that....haven't worn that size in almost 20 years.

Beer or alcohol help
I was told any beer or wine with bubbles is a no no like carbonated drinks are a no no for the first year after banding.
-
How much so far - total?
I hope I do better this week. But I did buy new jeans today...size 14 Petite and am thrilled. LOL Getting my second fill tomorrow....can't wait. Had my fill today (Thursday) and they are very pleased with my weight loss, so am I. My plateau is gone for now. LOL Starting weight 229.3 Band Date weight 220 Current weight 185.4 Went from size 20-22 to size 18-14 depending on clothing. I got size 14 Petite Ryder jeans yesterday and they fit great.

Are We ready for a Black President?
Gee love the new backgrounds here. Nice job I am very happy with the outcome of the election and was moved to tears by both speeches last night Obama and McCain. Hey good news for me got a pair of size 14 Petite jeans today LOL

Are We ready for a Black President?
Now Rush Limbaugh has to eat his words, but I doubt it. He made reference to Obama going to Hawaii as something mysterious and fishy..to do with his birth certificate and that his Grandmother wasn't that ill. What a jerk RL is. I voted and am proud to say for Obama and Biden this morning.

weight watchers on the band?
So far I have no trouble with microwaved meals. I like Healthy Choice and they have small amounts of pasta or rice, not enough to really bother me so far. I am having my second fill this Thursday and hoping for more restriction. I see no problem with joining something that will help you, although I don't think I would tell anyone at a meeting that I had Lap Band Surgery. I heard they don't think highly of it.
-
Not getting any restriction......
Wow I can't believe someone lost 111 lbs. in only 4 months that must be a record. I am having my second fill this Thursday, right now have very little restriction. And am at a plateau and need to get back on track.
-
Friday weigh in October 31
I gained a few ounces. I was up 2 lbs. after a Halloween party. I lost most of it. Very little restriction right now, going for a fill on Nov. 6th and hope that helps. I'll be on liquids and mushies for a few days, and will continue it for the 5 days pouch diet. Back on track. Went to my 2nd Water aerobics class, wow what a workout. It's 5 weeks. After that I can go to the family swim 3 times a week and do it on my own till the next class in January. Only thing my back is sore today. Hope I can lose a few pounds before the fill.

Did you spend the night
I stayed the night and was very glad I did, I was doped up and in pain and well I would not have been happy at home. They want to monitor you to make sure you don't get sick and vomit and you get an IV of pain meds and anti nausea stuff.

Problem with diarrhea
I had it for two weeks after surgery, I was allergic to whey protein in the meal drinks. I switched to soy and it stopped. Now I have to take a stool softener because I am constipated a lot. So things change.

Is it really worth it?? Please helpp
Yes it's worth it. I feel so much better, I started Water aerobics this week, and I did everything that the young women did and I'm 60. I hardly got out of breath and felt terrific afterwards. Go for it. It's scary at first but after being banded almost 3 months it's a piece of cake now. I need another fill, had my first Sept. 19th, feeling less restriction and I sure want more with Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. LOL Been on a plateau for a week. Edited: I have my second fill November 6th, so I should be nice and tight for Turkey Day LOL I think whenever I feel I lose the restriction I will call and get a fill, they seem pretty good about it. I hope to be 170 by the first of the year. but won't get upset if I am not there yet.
