A change in perspective
Great post. I have to buy a new wedding ring or get mine resized it fell off the other day. My fingers stayed thin, and now they are even thinner. I also just want to be healthy and look "normal" again. Not the fat lady thing. Hot body, hey those days are mostly gone. A lukewarm one is good LOL.

Friday weigh in october 24
Well I did not lose a thing this week. Stayed the same. Better than gaining I guess. Must be the little bit of cheating I did. We had Chinese last night LOL. Will be better this coming week.

Pre-Op Anesthesiologist (sp?) Appt?
Yes I met with both surgeon and the anesthesiologist before surgery. It's part of my program. They explained what they were going to do and how they would do it. I was pleased with it.

Need help getting back on track!!! Please help
Hey on friday I weighted 187.6 On Monday I was 189.4, so I sort of freaked till I remembered one, I was constipated for two days LOL and I had a small bowl of Beef Stew. So today back on track and will weigh my self on Friday. Just want to keep it at the 187 or so and lose more next week. As long as I can control the eating it will work. Don't beat yourself up....just remember that every day is a new one to start over with.

how have your views changed about yourself?
Oh I can relate to all that. Except for the toddler, LOL I am finding it easier to play with my 5 month old granddaughter and picking her up and carrying her around is much easier. Going up and down stairs one at a time instead of slowly with both feet. Love crossing my legs again like a lady. LOL:tt1::biggrin::tt1:

what is up with hardly any weightloss???
Wow you have had a lot of fills, I was banded on Auguts 7th and have had only one fill on September 9th. I have some small restriction but not much. I am watching what I eat and not going over 1200 a day. Walking and riding my bike. I want another fill and want a bit more restriction. I want to lose a bit more than 2-3 lbs a week.

Who still smokes after their surgery?
Wow I quit smoking 2 and a half years ago. My clinic won't even consider lap band or bypass surgery until you are at least 2 months a non-smoker. They are very strict and do a nicotine test before your surgery to make sure. One reason you don't heal as well and it takes longer to heal when you smoke and a higher risk of complications including pneumonia after surgery.

weight loss
Hey dimple I was also banded Aug. 7th. I had one fill on Sept. 19th and hope to have another one in November. Not too much restriction, but better than before the fill. I am just following dr's orders with the eating and stuff and losing a few pounds a week. I take it one day at a time and plan my meals when I get up in the morning, it depends on what I feel like eating. I have most everything except sugar and white flour stuff. Whole wheat Pasta is good and fat free and sugar free home made sauce is great. just have a third of what you would normally eat. but make sure you have the 3 oz. of Protein every meal.

4 months post op, just need a little help & support
We do have to understand this is a lifetime commitment and we are bound to get off track occasionally. Just have to curb the weight gain or no weight loss before it gets too big. Losing one or two pounds is a lot easier than losing 20,30, or 40. Just don't beat ourselves up over it. Learn from your mistakes. I know the holidays are coming, I won't give up that much. No pie or cake. But a spoonful of everything (small spoon) and white meat turkey and defat the gravy first. Can enjoy the meal and still not gain weight.

4 months post op, just need a little help & support
Hey after two and a half months I am also cheating a bit, but still losing weight. I do find if I eat a bit too much I will try to make it up the next day. This week I plan to really really concentrate. I have a big Halloween party next Sunday. And I have this very cute witch costume and it looks great on me. But I would like at least 3 more pounds gone by then. Dieting in the warmer weather isn't hard for me but come fall and winter...I get that carb craving things really bad. Stews and Soups and bread and Pasta oh my.......I just don't eat a lot of it. Small bowls and one tiny piece of bread and ohly 1/2 cup of pasta. It will satisfy me and the band keeps me from overeating. Just take it one day at a time. Maybe you need a fill.

The emotions of losing 100 pounds
Congratulations, I have not hit that mark yet but oh boy do I understand the flabby arms, they are like wings of flesh and a bit disgusting. I don't mind the other sags and bags "yet" but that is too strange looking. I figure if things get bad I can have some cosmetic surgery in the future if I want it. I am 60 and except for the few new sags in my face, I am Ok with it. Congratulation again for your wonderful weight loss. I bet you do feel so much better.

New Gal from Mass!
Welcome to another person from MA. I am north of Boston and had my lapband at Lahey Clinic in Burlington in August. I am doing well, slow but sure and I am really getting used to it now. Feeling more comfortable eating different things. Not much bothers me. I hop to go for my second fill in a few weeks. Heard good things about U of Mass.

not constipated feeling, but not going either....normal or no?
Well same problem even now with 2 months since surgery and I am eating small meals. I take one colaice (stool softener) every day and that helps. I guess not eating as much processed foods and eating maybe a third of what I used to eat does it. I also find a nice hot cup of coffee in the morning sure helps get things moving. LOL

What do you use Lunch Meat for?
Well LOL I just love meat in almost any form. Especially a nice big ol rare steak or roast beef. So I eat pototos also, just small amounts. Made a beef stew yesterday it was soooo good. I had one small bowl with mostly veggies and a few pieces of meat. Nothing got stuck because it was very tender and moist. That to me was a real treat...almost as good as chocolate LOL

4 months 17 days 64 pounds
Wow great weight loss, but eating once a day is a no no for most of us. Did you go through a program at a weight loss clinic in a hospital? I was told 3 small meals. Total calorie intake about 1200 a day with 60 grams of Protein a minimum for good health. Great that you have a new goal....and I am sure you will meet it. Welcome to the forum Pati:tongue2:

Returning to Work... What Should I Bring to Eat
Instead of straining the chucks from the soup and that is the nourishment put it all in a blender and make if a nice thick smooth soup. Then put this in a container. I love the ones with the screw on lids. Take that with you to work and pop in the microwave. I sometimes sprinkle a bit of fat free shredded cheese on top for a bit more protein.

Bragging: Reached my first mini-goal!
Oh that is so wonderful Congratulations girl.....I sure know that feeling, when I got to the "100's" I was ecstatic....It's a wonderful feeling and will only get better.

I could use a Buddy/Mentor
Hey sorry I have not posted it's been crazy around here, having a new septic system put in and my front yard looks like a battle ground. Check my photos LOL. How are you doing. I am doing great, thought I had gained a few pounds this week because I ate more than I have been, for some reason the cool weather makes my very hungry for carbs and stuff LOL I am making beef stew in my crock pot today. I use lean beef and lots of veggies. Yummy Busy with my granddaughter, I watch her 3 days a week with hubby, since they live downstairs it's great. We love to take her for car rides and visiting. Going leaf peeping today....it's fall here and lovely. How are you doing? Take care and hope to hear from you soon. Pati

Fashion and clothing
And if you find a good tailor you can have a suit or two altered as you go along, and at the end have them all tailored to fit the new you if you can. I am lucky I am retired so I don't have that problem. But I do have three wardrobes...my fat one, my medium fat one and my not so fat one....I am now in the medium fat/and a few not so fat items are fitting me fine.

Cheese anyone????????????????? 14 days post op!
Well I love cheese and it's a great source of protein. I would get the soup in hand (the tomato is great) and take a bit of grated Parmesan and sprinkle that with some Italian spices and fresh black pepper, nuke for a minute and 20 seconds and ......you have Italian soup tastes just like pasta sauce and it was lovely. I still heat it. I also got finely shredded Sargento low fat cheddar and that is yummy also on soup and salads. Melting it helps. So go for it...start with just a tiny bit and see if it bothers you. Best of luck. Pati

Just Need to Vent
Wow what a horrible place and staff, I can't believe they have treated you this way, and I would have told that bitch to shut up.....Some of us don't' have the extra money for gym classes. I wish there was someplace better for you to go too. I can't imagine making you pay the day ahead. I am a bit confused it this self-pay or does your insurance pay for it all? Making you pay ahead sucks. I would write a letter of complaint to the head of the hospital with all the information of your treatment. Just hang in there and your best revenge is to lose weight and when your finished tell the bitch off....LOL Your a brave women and a strong one. You are 100% better than they are. Remember that.

Friday Weigh In Oct. 17, 2008
Congratulations everyone, I was sure I had gained at least one or two pounds this week, I have been eating more than I was. I even sneaked a little Pasta last night. LOL but to my amazement I lost. Go figure. For a few weeks I was losing one or two pounds. This week a total of 3 pounds. I finally it the magic loss of more than 40 pounds since before and after surgery. I have not seen the 180's in 15 years. Just told hubby and after a big hug he said...wow you feel good. LOL Well it's cold but nice and we have the baby today while my daughter works, going to get her dressed up nice and cute and take her for a ride to visit friends and take in the fall leaves and check out a few farm stands for produce. I love leaf peeping. I will take photos and post them in my album. Take care all and happy losing....I am also making some of my famous beef stew today, put in the crock pot and when we get home yummmy....LOl Happy Friday Pati

I'm failing, help
I can understand, my progress is rather slow, the past week I have had the hungry horrors and not much restriction. It's willpower that's keeping me on this diet and exercise and the band is a help. I am so afraid to overeat and make the band slip I think about it before I eat anything. And if I don't slow down and chew I get that awful stuck feeling. I am hoping that my second fill gives me more restriction. I didn't want to go through all that this intailed...the diet and the surgery and the weeks of Fluid, not to mention the scars and the pain for nothing. I won't let my being a food addict mess this up. Seeing my shrink tomorrow...that helps to talk to her. Good luck and keep on keeping on. One day at a time....

How does everyone feel about gum chewing?
My doctor and nurse practitioner said NO GUM at any time because you could swallow and it could get stuck and mess the band up and you would have to have it surgically removed. I am not a gum chewer I just don't like it in particular the people who "snap" their gum...I want to scream when I hear that. So gross and low class. JMHO
