Tdot77guy reacted to Cervidae in 1st stall
you lost 24 pounds in 11 days? you lost over 2 pounds a day and you are worried about a stall?!
I think you could benefit from taking a step back off the scale and looking at this objectively.
Can you recall what two pounds of meat feels like in your hand? Or a two pound weight? Your body has lost that EVERY DAY for 11 days. A stall is not only normal, but necessary! Right now, your body thinks it is starving and dying. It's in panic/survival mode. It's also dealing with the enormous trauma of major abdominal surgery and the loss of parts of your digestive tract. Give the poor thing some time for a breather!
I was here worrying and posting about stalls too. Most people were at one point or another. But do yourself a HUGE favor and don't allow yourself to obsess about this. If you lost two pounds a day for months without a break, you would be incredibly sick, maybe even so sick you'd need to be hospitalized. It may be normal for wls patients to lose quickly in the beginning, but it is in no way normal for our bodies to be losing weight like this. Obsessing about it is not only not going to change the fact that stalls happen and they need to happen, but it's also detrimental to your emotional (and by extension, physical) health. Did you do this just to lose weight or did you also want to get healthy? I'm betting you really care about your health. We did not become obese in a few months and we sure as hell aren't going to become "normal" in a few months.
So don't sweat the stalls, embrace them! It means everything is working correctly. I stall for weeks - sometimes close to a month - every single month around my period, then have rapid loss for a few days, then go into another stall. Yet, despite all of that, here I am less than 9 months later and down 143 pounds. It all adds up, it all evens out, and in a few months you're going to feel silly for worrying about this. Trust me! Get in your Protein and Water and Vitamins and all the other good stuff will follow. Hang in there!

Thank you to the OP for posting this and I appreciate all the responses too. I am scheduled for bypass on March 12 in Tijuana. I am going through thoughts telling me its not worth it. You can do it on your own. But after reading all the responses here I think I am making the right choice by using this surgery as a tool for long term success.
I find myself on these forums every time I start getting doubts and after logging on I calm down when feeling anxious. Thank you all for your comments. You never know what you typing is getting people through some difficult self doubts.

@@Tdot77guy I would for sure be up for meetings. That's something I have been interested in. Either bi weekly or monthly something like that. I wonder how much interest there would be in this area. I start my 3 week Optifast liquid diet tomorrow bright and early then surgery on April 4. I'm very excited and very nervous it has been a long road that started almost 3 years ago so knowing it's so close is crazy

The Optifast is a challenge for the first few days and then you'll find your appetite drops off. I was amazed I wasn't hungrier.
Good luck with your surgeries! The recovery isn't bad at all. And soon you'll be dropping weight and feeling great. I'm excited for you both. Keep posting abt your journey. It's nice to chat local!

I'm in Tijuana right now. Was supposed to go with bypass but doctors are recommended the sleeve. I'm from Markham. My operation will happen tomorrow morning at 8 am. So for this experience has exceeded my expectations.

Tdot77guy reacted to Cervidae in 1 week post OP, considering smoking Marijuana to ease pain and sleep.
I've been smoking on and off since about a month post-op. My advice is:
You're choosing between taking medications which may have crappy or damaging side effects or using something that has no long-term effects on your body but is illegal and frowned upon socially by many people still. You're going to have to decide if it's worth it to worry about the possible legal or social consequences.
Personally, I welcome medicating with this rather than the anti-anxiety meds (that made me sluggish and irritable) or the sleep meds (that made me shaky and nauseous) that have been far less effective than smoking a bowl every day or two. I sleep like a baby, feel far less anxious, have fewer panic attacks, and the munchie effect, while it still exists, is at a perfect low level that makes it much easier to get in enough calories every day, which has been a struggle for me.
It seems to me that if something helps so much and hurts no one, and the only reason people are afraid to do it is because of questionable/outdated legal reasons, then I should do what works best for me and which best facilitates my healing and well-being.
So I do just that. Whatever you do, keep yourself accountable and take care of yourself.

It's 100% worth it. I'm only 3 days post op and ive already lost 4lbs since my surgery date. And I didn't have to starve or torture myself to lose that 4 lbs.

I am scheduled for a mini gastric bypass on March 12 2016 in Mexico. I am 6'2 330 and my mind is constantly telling me that I don't need this surgery and I can handle this own my own. Maybe if I could continue dieting.
I am a single dad trying to do this for my 8 year old daughter. I know I need to this.
Appreciate your insights and anything else you have to offer.
