I used the gallbladder excuse. most of the time they also put you on a special diet beofre surgery. I also have NASH so the whol diet thing goes right along with that.

I am curious if anybody ended up having to be opened up for surgery because the could not perform it laparocopic?

Thanks for all the support! I was having a really bad day when I made that thread but it's getting better. I still have 16 days of liquids and banding! Then another 2 weeks after my band of liquids. I have lost 9 lbs in less then a week (most of it is water) but if i keep up at this rate i will ALMOST be a my goal by the end of the liquid stage

When I went in for my pre-op I has gained 6 lbs so now I am on liquids for 3 weeks and quit smoking at the same time. I have already lost 9 lbs and its only been 6 days! I don't want to drop weight that quick because I fear the my skin won't have time to catch up! Wish I could just be on liquids for one day but at this point I would settle for just one week!

I am having a really hard time during this liquid stage! I have also quit smoking at the same time and I am really down. As I do the liquid stage, I think to myself "Do i really need the lap-band if I have this much self control now?" Then I think how many times i have been on a diet and get to goal and then gain all my weight back. I am a self pay so i think that might have a lot to do with my questions to myself. Do I really want to spend the money on this if i can do this on my own. Just a little confused right now..........................

reganm04 I also quit smoking and started the liquid diet. I have had a headace that will not go away.I have to do the liquid pre-op for three week because I have an enlarged liver. Then another 3weeks after surgery. I will forget what real food tastes lke by the time I can eat it agian.

Can someone please tell me where I can find out info on the differnce between the 2 inamed bands. How do they choose what size you will receive?

I feel much better now! I could not sleep all night thinking about this. My doctor out me on a 3 weel all liquid diet. he sais that my liver was doulble the size that it should be. My bmi is a 38 so I was a little shocked that it was sooooo enlarged

I went for my final pre-op today and was told that I have a condition called NASH or non-alcohol fatty liver. Anybody out there have this also? I can be caused by being overweight but there are so many other reasons also. I came home and got on the computer to find out everything there is to know and from what i can see, the lap-band just might of saved me from having to get a liver transplant in the future. Low fat, high protien diet is one of the treatments of this condition.

I am in the process of having my bikini lasered.I had electrloysis done about 13yrs ago on my eyebrows and the pain was terrible. I never could have laser done in the past because I am a red head and you had to have dark hair for it to work. They have updated the laser so that it will now work on me. The only advice that i can offer is to make sure that a NURSE is doing the treatment. Laser can cause burns if it's not done correctly

I have found out that my friends that are not heavy are much more supportive than the couple who are!!!!!! You would think that anybody over weight would be more understanding right? i have told most people the I am having my gallbladder out since the scars are almost the same and so is the recovery period. I yo-yo so much that nobody would even think i had the lap-band

I told only a few friends and made the mistake of telling my mother. I aked her not to tell anyone but she told several people who called me to ask me the details. I have not had my surgery yet, but I told my mother that I changed my mind about it. She is one of those people that think that i am single because I am fat.

I also am having a very hard time with quiting! I was told by my doctor that I had to quit or he would cancel the surgery. I have heard that it is very hard to heel if you smoke. The whole thought of the liquid diet and no smoking almost has me ready to check myself into the funny farm. BTW I am also teaching someone at work to replace me during my time off........... Can I have any more stress in my life??????? I just think of the final result and try to convince myself that it's all worth it They do test for nicotine in your blood........... No way around it

Any of you Marylanders bended by Dr.Greene? Just wanted to know what you thought. I will be banded August 28th. Does anybody go to his support group meetings?

When you go out to dinner with people who do not know about your band do you find it hard? Does eating such a little amount of food makes people wonder if you have developed an eating disorder?

Whats up August bandsters.................. I am a self pay girl and have been waithing for my date for a mth or so. I got a call last week telling me that they has no openings until oct:cry I became really upset and began to do research on other doctors. My doctor is charging 14500 but he is acrooss the street from my house and has a GREAT rep. in the area so I really has no issues with the amount until now. I was not willing to wait till Oct. aand made that very clear when I was talking to his staff so I looked into Dr. Ortiz in Mexico. I have read many posts and did a lot of searching and I was going to go for it and then................ My doctor called and said that they fit me in August 29th.:omg: I was set to fly to Mexico and was pretty excited at the thought of saving $6000. I looked into after care and my original doctor will do the fills and my after care for a $500 office fee that I already paid anyway. So in my head I was saving money, gettting my band in August like I had planned and taking a trip to lay in the Mexican sun! Now I am really having a hard time trying to decide what to do. I made a pro/con list and talked to my close friends that know what i am going to do but I would love you input.

What kind of excerise did you do the six weeks after your new band? I want to hire a personal trainer but I think that I shoud wait until I am six weeks out!!!!!!! What do you guys think?

I got my baby from petfinders.com. She was 6mths old any already potty trained. I did not even need to use a crate! The feeling that you get from saving a dogs life is like no other........ Just a thought

Dr. greene is in Rockville maryland and he about 14000 but i think that is worth not traveling

Has anyone been banded by Dr.Greene in Maryland? Were you self-pay or not? Just looking for some background info!!!!!!! Thanks

I also work on a loading dock and do lots of lifting and my doctor told me to take 6-8 weeks off!

Yes, I know that every doctor recomends that we quit smoking before the big day but has anyone not done what is recomended? It's easier said then done for those of you who do not have this terrible habbit!

Have you heard of Dr. Barry Greene? He is in Rockville and has an outpatient clinic where he does lap-band surgury! His fees are reasonable if tou are a self pay. His number is (301) 251-4128 Just thought that you might want to take this route rather than flying to a differn't coutry
