So, the thing for me with low-carb substitutions is that they still take up SPACE. Space is a very very precious commodity when your restriction is severe and you still need to meet your Protein goals. Could I have a little low carb tortilla or some high protein Pasta? Sure. But it will leave less room for my primary protein sources. I just don't bother with those things.

Our gay community continues to be savaged by many purporting to be acting on Gods behalf. Those who foment such hatred , no matter what religious stripe, bear responsibility in my humble opinion. My heart goes out to all the victims of ignorant violence all around the world, the majority of whom are innocent Muslims. Terror seeks to divide us we will not let that happen in this great country. What a horrible, dangerous statement to make. I also noticed you quote Einstein EVERY TIME YOU POST. How ironic you feel the way you do about people coming into our country when the man you respect was a Jewish man born in Germany. What if we had blocked HIM from coming to the states???
Your attitude makes me physically ill. And keep your voting suggestions to yourself. Not necessary on this forum, period.

Husband and my mum only. Very, very glad as I have read some hideous stories of the negative, judgmental comments others have received. Many are strong enough to cope with this, I felt I had enough on my plate recovering from surgery and learning a new way of living.
Think carefully about this. You can always later confide in people, but you can't pull it back if you have already told people.

I skip the crust entirely. I had my first pizza at about 9 weeks out, but went with toppings only. The crust is really unimportant and takes up valuable space you need for the nurtrient richer tasty stuff! I ate the toppings off of one and half slices of pepperoni, mushroom, onion, and hamburger with extra cheese. It was awesome awesome and I even dropped a pound the day after Had I eaten the crust, I probably would have stalled or gained. My friend ate the rest of the pizza

I think you are probably fine weight wise, people just aren't used to seeing YOU thin and on top of that our society has lost sight of anything between fat and skinny--we are a nation of extremes- the photoshopped size 000 models and then the rest who are gaining weight so rapidly we've had to add a "super morbidly obese" category to the line up.
Where are you getting that you have 25-30lbs of extra skin, though? I had plastics to remove skin on my arms breasts and tummy and it was less than 5lbs. The people you see on those tv shows losing a lot of weight through skin removal have a lot of subcutaneous fat either removed with the skin or through liposuction during their procedures. If you literally just have skin to remove (and at your new size that seems probable) you likely have less than 10lbs of actually skin to lose.

BCs 1000 reacted to Alex Brecher in Reminder: BariatricPal Is a Supportive Environment!
I am sorry to need to post this, but I don’t have much of a choice. This issue has come up too frequently in recent weeks. Many BariatricPal members have let me know that have been multiple complaints from members that posts are rude, disrespectful, or arrogant.
    That is unacceptable.
I started BariatricPal to help weight loss surgery patients. It is a place where anyone should feel comfortable gathering information about weight loss surgery and getting support. There is no room here for negativity.
Your use of the forums means you agree to the Forum Rules. In particular, “Disrespectful and hurtful posts are forbidden.” It is unacceptable to bash individuals for their choices or questions.
These tips might help you stick to the guidelines.
Not everyone has the same weight loss surgery journey. A member may post a problem or question that he or she has that you did not find to be a concern. That doesn’t mean that member is doing anything wrong in his or her weight loss surgery journey.
You do not need to answer posts. There may be times when newer – or even veteran – members ask questions that have been discussed a million times. If you don’t think the question is worth answer for the million-and-first time, don’t answer it. Please don’t post something nasty telling the poster that they didn’t do their homework and should have found the answer themselves.
It can be difficult to get emotions across in writing. You may write something as a joke, but a reader may not realize it. Before you post, try to read your post from the point of view of another member. Could your post accidentally be taken as rude or disrespectful?
Try to assume the best in people. We are all here to lose weight, get healthy, and succeed in the weight loss surgery journey. Assume members are here because they need the support. Assume members are doing their best in their own way, even if it’s not the same way you would handle things. Please report any posts you feel are inappropriate. I will address them. Consequences range from editing/removal of the offensive post to temporary or permanent suspension of the member’s membership.
I know that the vast majority of members are doing a phenomenal job being helpful, being positive, and sticking to the forum guidelines. I thank you for that. There are only a few members who are causing these hurtful situations, and I hope to take care of it.
Thanks to everyone who keeps these forums as positive as they are.

    @@thomas1984,
I am sorry you are afraid your surgeon messed up. If you want to address it with him, I would not start by accusing him. I would start by expressing your concerns. There’s a small chance your surgeon may have a reasonable explanation for the things that are making you doubt. Your surgeon may even have some advice for getting more out of your sleeve.
If you are still convinced that your surgeon messed up, you can definitely do what @@AvaFern says. Finding out exactly what size your sleeve is will give you a definite answer, and you can go from there. And, definitely get your patient records. They’re yours, and maybe seeing them will put your fears to rest or confirm them.
I would definitely go the route of gathering information before making accusations. You can accomplish the same thing, but won’t risk looking silly or making an enemy. Good luck! The important thing, no matter how you go about it, is that this works out to make you healthy and help you lose weight.

BCs 1000 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Stomach stretching
When it comes to carbs, I can eat a whole heap more than I can of Protein. Like PP said, if I start the day with carbs, the rest of the day goes downhill fast.
I just did the 5 day pouch test to get myself on track as these final pounds are proving very difficult to shift. Through the five days I could not finish a cup of Soup or Protein, so all is still well with my restriction.
If I wanted to, I could probably eat a garbage bag of popcorn as it is not very dense so I can fit a lot in. The same goes for other types of carbs.
I am in the healthy weight range now, but I still have the psychology of a morbidly obese person and probably always will. I cannot rely on my sleeve alone and am positive I could put all of the weight back on if I don't stick to the protein first rule.
I think you scared yourself, which probably isn't a bad thing. I have done it a few times over the past 8 months and am now 100% clear that I will never be able to include carbs in my diet like the average person does. I will always over eat them.
Best of luck learning what works for you

I'm late to this thread. I see that Thomas has already made an appointment with his doc. Good on ya, Thomas.
Thomas, I'm befuddled as to how someone who's only 4 months post-op could possibly eat 20 ounces of steak. I have to wonder if your prior lapband history before being sleeved isn't implicated in some way to your ability to eat so much dense Protein. Hell, before I was sleeved I couldn't even eat half that much steak!
As a reference point, I'm a "virgin" sleever (with no prior WLS experience before my VSG 2+ years ago). Earlier this week I had 4 ounces of steak (that's how much I'd put on my plate) and barely finished that portion. I could not have eaten any more steak if I'd tried.
Also, to Sophie's comment that WLS should ensure that we're satisfied with a single egg -- yeah, that would be lovely if it were true. But after the sleeve is healed completely, that simply doesn't seem to be the case, unless you have an exceptionally tiny sleeve or a stricture or some other unusual complication.
Finally, for those of you reading this thread who haven't been sleeved yet, please don't assume that having WLS alone will resolve all your future weight issues. Yes, the stomach restriction and ghrelin reduction from being sleeved are great aids.
But many of us arrived at the point of needing WLS because we have other underlying physical and emotional issues that must also be addressed to successfully resolve our obesity / health / overeating problems. Some of us find that psychological therapy, vitamin/mineral and other supplementation, changes in our medications, physical therapy, significant lifestyle changes, and addiction treatment may also be necessary.
Some also find they must make changes in their marital relationships, friendships, jobs or career choices, and other living arrangements to be successful long-term.
It's trite, but true: "They operate on your stomach, not your brain."

Have you considered postponing your surgery until you're in a better place mentally to handle the physical burdens of surgery, post-op recovery, and all the lifestyle changes you'll be making after WLS?
    Not saying you should!
Just saying that changing your surgery date is always, always, always an option for you.
You should not feel forced or rushed by the calendar or other circumstances into this kind of surgery.

BCs 1000 reacted to CHM in Hard Boiled Eggs
Boiling is best reserved for older eggs. When they're too fresh the membranes are very tight and clingy, which makes a clean peel impossible. As they near or exceed their sell by date, the membranes relax and slide off easily.
When I boil mine, I place them in the smallest size saucepan they'll fit in (the less room there is for them to thrash around the less likely they are to crack), add cold Water until its an inch above the eggs, then cover. I set the pan over a burner on high, then immediately remove it from the heat the moment it comes to a boil, setting a timer for 10 minutes. When the timer goes I remove the lid, set the pot in the sink, and run cold Water in it for several minutes. This results in whites that are solid but tender, and yolks that are fully cooked but bright and creamy (rather than crumbly). Perfect, imo.

BCs 1000 reacted to summerset in Why do some folks try to ruin this forum?
Obviously that's a problem. And it's the reason why I left quite a few groups in the past and I have seen quite a few boards going down the drain because more and more people left, no newbies stayed because of the cliquishness. The vets were the only ones staying, no fresh air, always the same old jokes etc. and there were less and less postings, usually about some boring and ridiculous stuff that got nothing to do with being on topic.
I've seen big and active boards going down the drain and when I join a board and think "Yes, this seems to be quite a good one" I usually say to myself only seconds later "Ok, lets see how long you will stay here". I also try to find out who the drama llamas and shit stirrers and know-it-alls are and take their posts with a grain of salt and/or ignore them sooner or later.
I've never (actually NEVER) seen a board or mailing list or whatever without the same old drama going on sooner or later. However, I have enough drama people in my life to deal with, I don't need this at home and in my leisure time. Yes, I know this "oh-I'm-so-tough" and "I'm-like-a-real-bad-ass" attitudes seem to be really in vogue but if I want to deal with that kind of people, I simply go to work. At least I'm getting paid for it then.
I take what I need, give back some of what I know and that's it. Might be a fatalistic attitude but coming to internet boards I can't help that.

It likely isn't hunger since your stomach is not going to be sending the right signals for some time (it's really really swollen and sore and trying to heal - true hunger signals and especially feeling full is going to be completely off for months).
It is either thirst, misinterpreted pain, acid/GERD (should be taking some form of PPI for the next few months) or head hunger.
And I think everyone comes out of this surgery saying "I made a huge mistake!!" within the first week or two. Things will improve and the weight will start coming off and you'll feel much better about it soon.

i'm not sure but as you eat past what you should it is pushed into your intestines.... Now it sounds like something is not quite right and I would go to my surgeon right away and let him know and ask him what why how etc. The sleeve can grow they said anywhere from 6 to ten ounces from what I read but 20 ounces is way over that. Go to your surgeon or another one have the tests done and find out what is going on as that would freak me out....it might not be anything wrong per se... I find weighing my food makes it impossible for me to eat too much and the one time I didnt chew enough it made me hurl... so it sounds like something is off.... To the doc with you. let me know what they say... cos I would hate to think they could mess up that bad..... I can't blame you for being upset... and concerned... I hope it goes well..
