It likely isn't hunger since your stomach is not going to be sending the right signals for some time (it's really really swollen and sore and trying to heal - true hunger signals and especially feeling full is going to be completely off for months).

It is either thirst, misinterpreted pain, acid/GERD (should be taking some form of PPI for the next few months) or head hunger.

And I think everyone comes out of this surgery saying "I made a huge mistake!!" within the first week or two. Things will improve and the weight will start coming off and you'll feel much better about it soon. :)

Drink Protein, it's only your mind that's thinks it's hungry. Your really not. Take a walk, your fine, breath. I'm 5 days also. My mind is playing tricks on me. I just walk or drink Water when I think I'm hungry. I make sure I get my 3 Protein shakes in. And I walk 8 blocks now. Walking helps me feel so much better about myself. Trust me, your not hungry. My email is banderson9294@gmail.com. If you really need help. I'm here for you

Stay strong.

You just had a major surgery. You're body is a wee be cranky if not all right pissed at you right now.

Patience with the healing process is difficult, but healing and all that it entails takes time. Try to drink, drink, drink and walk as much as you can. If gas is causing your "hunger", walking will help. It will also help get the ol' endorphins flowing and help keep you mind occupied.

If you still are feeling as you are now come Monday, then give your bariatric team a call. They will probably have a suggestion or two for you--according to your plan.

Have a friend come over for awhile--or you go out visiting. Anything to change up your surroundings.

Please keep posting and letting us know how you're doing.

Prayers going up for some good things to happen.

I am 18 days post op and I felt the exact same way. It is hard to imagine that it will get better but trust me it will. Now, I get frustrated because I can't each as slow nor as much as I want so I am working on that but it is all in phases and each one gets better. Hang in there!!

Hi! I'm day 6 post-op and in full liquids and today I felt hungry for the first time! I knew this day was coming so my dietician recommend "cream of potato's Campbell" use the mix with 1 cup of fat free milk and blend everything really well in a blender (it has little chunks of potatoes) it was delicious! And super light and filing Hang in there!

I'm 8 days post op and have the same feeling- I find though as soon as I take my anti acid fast tab that I got prescribed from my surgeon and have a bit of Water it totally goes away.

I'm 5 days post op and I think I just miss the idea of food I don't think I'm hungry, but it is really hard to tell the difference. I'm also finding sitting down with my family to eat really hard, cause I love the smell of what their eating but I know that eating real food at this stage can actually cause serious harm.

I think that part of why I'm feeling this way is because until you can't participate in the ritual of eating you don't realise how much you miss it.

I'm so looking forward to the baby food stage only 8 days to go yay

I am five days post-op and today have felt really hungry. My stomach just feels upset all the time and although I've taken many liquids in Water, broth, some yogurt I still feel like I'm hungry and my stomach is just making noises. I'm so glad you asked because I thought I was just going crazy and did not expect to be hungry so early on. I am also taking Prevacid but I don't know is anyone else on any medication for acid reflex? What are you all taking? Maybe what I'm on doesn't work for me. I finally gave in and had some refried Beans but now I just feel sick. Arghhh why is this so hard?

I feel your pain girl! I've been so hungry so on day 7 post op I snapped and ate some hummus! But I was only able to eat so little before I got full! I didn't feel sick but I did feel very full

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
