EastTexasMom reacted to dhrguru in Why I don't weigh daily !
Fridays are my weigh in days. I don't touch the scale otherwise. But today I have a doctor's appointment.
It's Not a 'familiar' scale. It's the middle of the day, I'm dressed for work. Of course I'm not gonna like what their scale tells me.
Enter head games... Tomorrow is weigh in day... I could very well see the same thing tomorrow, (which would be depressing!!)
Ugh, next time I'm going to stand backwards and tell them not to tell me the weight. It messes with my head too much!
I'm gonna forget about today and deal with tomorrow's weight tomorrow!

Awesome points and YES, drinking your calories is one of the biggest indicators of weight gain. That's how my husband gained 30 after quitting smoking. Too many Starbucks coffee drinks, beer and soda. (He subsequently lost the 30 he'd put on) This was one of the first things his surgeon told him about WLS patients who gain their weight. DON'T DRINK YOUR CALORIES. He explained it as the one of the mortal sins for WLS patients.

I was sleeved 9/18 and am doing great. Down 16.5 lbs since surgery. The first two weeks I did not feel like myself but this week has been a HUGE difference. I think once you are eating real food and exercising you will feel better too. I sure will keep you all in my prayers. I did not have any complications after surgery so my recovery was not difficult. The biggest problem I face now is eating slow and chewing enough. I have had major pain twice and hope after that last time I have learned my lesson........it was HORRIBLE. Take care of yourselves. xoxoxox

I am down 6.2 pounds in 8 days using a blend of essential oils that I named "Anti-Hunger". So far, so good! Able to completely resist the temptation of snacking. Loss of hunger is similar to being in the Honeymoon stage after RNY surgery.
I am 29 months post-op RNY surgery and very near my bottom weight when I began this experiment. In a couple weeks if I find this experiment to be successful, I will post the formula on my updated webpage at Protein back into my diet (in the form of one large cup of hot [no sugar added] cocoa). This brought the weight loss to a dead crawl. Anyways this is good information since this experiment is just as much about weight stability as weight loss. I will now drop the hot cocoa and see if weight loss will ramp up again.
[October 16] Since I dropped 1.6 pounds from yesterday. The weight loss ramped up surprisingly quick. Now here is the good news! I have now broken through my lowest weight barrier after surgery. It gives hope to those that are trying to meet a weight goal and can’t just quite seem to be able to get there.

EastTexasMom reacted to James Marusek in Naturally Thin People ... omgosh!
When I was young, I was thin. I could eat anything, anytime, anywhere and not gain weight. I use to go to a restaurant each day and order a large ice cream banana split. I remember all the elderly women in the restaurant staring at me with their jaws ajar, wondering how I was so thin. Well as the years wore on I did gain the weight and became obese. Sometimes I could feel the weight of their stares wanting revenge, wanting me to gain the weight. But it is all only just a feeling. The genetic makeup of my family (mother and brothers and sisters) is to be thin when young and obese when old.

The only one I told was my hubby (because I had to). I have lost and gained weight so many times before, I don't think there will be too much inquiry. If there is, than I went on a strict Protein diet and started exercising again. That's the truth without all the details. I feel that I have enough to do to stay on course without having to pause and discuss, defend or explain my decision to everyone who wishes to satisfy their curiosity. Good luck!

EastTexasMom reacted to Micdruss in When did people notice your weight loss?
It took about 35-40 lbs for people that really know me to start commenting.
Funny story though. I am on a carnival committee for my kids school that I've done for the last 4 years and so deal with a lot of the same people each year. I have gotten tons of comments about "my new haircut" which is exactly the same as last year lol. I'm guessing the losing 75 lbs since April has helped my hair style look better ????

EastTexasMom reacted to Bufflehead in When did people notice your weight loss?
It took about 60 lbs before people started noticing for me, but I started out at a higher weight than you. So, my guess is that you will start hearing from people when you get below 200 lbs.
Also, when you have lost some but not a huge amount, many people will be afraid to comment in case they are wrong, or they are just being too personal. And actually, it is kind of rude to comment on someone else's body for any reason. So, just tell yourself that you work with a lot of polite people who have good manners
In my experience, once you start wearing clothes that fit better, more people will notice. Loose clothes do not make you look smaller, they actually make you look bigger than you are.

Benjamin Franklin said some very interesting things about keeping secrets.
"Three can keep a secret if two of them are dead."
"If you would keep your secret from an enemy, tell it not to a friend."
"To whom thy secret thou doest tell, to him the freedom thou doest sell."
    "Let thy discontents be secrets."
And heard this from a pulpit once, "You don't have to lie, but you don't have to tell everything you know."
Your mate was wrong to betray your trust. If you don't want to tell anyone, you should not have to. You will know with your "knower" when the time is right to speak up. I agree that distancing oneself socially from saboteurs and negative Nancies is the best thing you can do to maintain peace of mind.

I have told one person and one person only: My husband. I love my family, but they tend to be know-it-alls and busy bodies, and I just don't want to deal with having to defend my decision or my eating choices for the rest of my life. The people at work are also great folks, but very gossipy and close-knit, with lots of the skinny women constantly advising everyone else on food choices (while nibbling on cake and chocolate all day themselves).
This is my body, my health, and my business. As @@gobeit notes, it is a medical decision, and I feel no qualms at all in keeping my medical history private.
I was worried, too, about eating at work, but so far no one has noticed a thing. I've said I'm dieting and watching my carbs, both of which are true. I eat cottage cheese, V-8, Soups, tuna in packets with low-fat dressing. We have had a couple of meetings where boxed lunches were ordered. I didn't eat the bread. Said I was doing low carbs (which is true!) which everyone understands, and it was no big deal at all.
I am getting my emotional support from my husband and other support on this website. I rely on my doctor's office for medical advice, but check here daily to see what other people's experience is. I've found this tremendously reassuring and helpful.
So, do whatever is best for YOU, but do give it serious thought. Once you've told a few people, the choice of keeping your medical history private is no longer yours.

EastTexasMom reacted to BLERDgirl in Question about protein drinks
My program just said 60gm Protein a day, 64 ounce of fluids. The food stages were 2 weeks full liquids, 2 weeks, purees, 2 weeks soft foods, then regular food as tolerated. We could decide for ourselves if we wanted 3 meals, 3 meals, 2 Snacks, or 3 meals and 1 snack. I was given Jello, tea and non chunky Soup in the hospital.
    I also didn't have a pre-op diet.

    Bucket List:
Fitting it into my size 12 jeans, dresses, and cute skirts.
Then donating them two months later, because they are too big for me.
Becoming an adjunct (part-time) professor at one of the local colleges or universities. Have been wanting to do that for a couple of years. But not wanting to stand in front of a classroom of college students in this body.
    Go swimming without shame.
Take pictures with my daughter. (I hate seeing how chunky I've become in photos, so I avoid taking pictures like the plague).
Enjoying the summer, because I won't be so hot inside 50 pounds of extra fat.
And other basic things that I'm looking forward to taking for granted a year from now.

EastTexasMom reacted to Elode in Never in my life did I think I would share this!
I never would have dreamed of showing anyone my weight on a scale. I absolutely dreaded weighing in at the DR's office. As if they cared right?!. Scale numbers are the thing nightmares are made of in my world. I think I was traumatized as a child when they would do "health checkups" at school, everyone would get called to the cafeteria and have to be weighed in front of the people standing behind you. Horrible experience!! Not today folks!! I am thrilled to share my scale experience! My starting weight 10 months ago was a even 267 Lbs on the day of surgery. I am now officially over 100 lbs lost (barely). This process has defiantly been a complete life changing experience. I still have a hard time accepting the numbers, it just doesn't seem real so I weight a good 5x in a row just to make sure I'm not delusional Only 5 more lbs and I will be considered "normal" I have never wanted to be more "normal" in my life From morbidly obese, obese, overweight to normal in 10 tiny months! I would do this surgery 100x again if I had to just to have these moments. I'm incredibly grateful. God is good all the time!!
