    Loved your post.
I had thought of all the reasons I "need" the surgery, but I didn't dare think selfishly about why I wanted it. I guess shame was holding me back.. your post was eye opening. (okay.. it made me giggle a bit too.. haha)
What an amazing husband and father your wife and children have! Keep us updated on your progress!

So glad to have come across this thread!! I'm just starting the WLS process... I'm 5'11 and currently weight 376lbs. I've made my mind up that I want to have the sleeve done.. I just hope when I meet with the surgeon that he agrees!

I need to throw this out there now that I've calmed down. My BFF was sleeved four years ago and has been a big help in this journey but I'm a lil over week out and she just blasted me for a bite of french fry and a taste of sugar free fudge. She's sad that I'm even thinking of eating a food like that, i should be just drinking Water, i never should have gone near the the boardwalk and I'm just not gonna make it.
Now while she runs marathons and works out, this is from the girl who's eating ice cream and donuts, cake, and more. She's up 10lbs from her goal weight and angry with people that can eat what they want. She's also drinking every night.
She's a "tough" personality anyway but this was shocking. I think she's jealous of my "easy" honeymoon stage, needs to cope with her anger about food, in a possible danger zone with alcohol and it just spewed all over my feeling great.
I'd like feedback on how to deal. I've let go of my pissed off attitude. It's my journey to test limits, to fall down, to get up but i really felt judged. I won't talk to her about any challenges anymore. I'll use the forums here (which she had said i should get off of).
    Thanks for letting me vent

Thank you for that. I needed to hear it. I have my first appointment on the 13th to start the process and I was starting to get discouraged because I wasn't finding stories like my own. I know this is going to be a big change, but I'm ready for it. I'm sick of not feeling good all the time.

Everyone has been supportive but my mom has been the superstar. She has attended all my appointments (sitting in on some of the classes) and was with me every minute at the hospital. I couldn't have done it without her.

Who does your support system consist of on this journey to a new and better you? My mother in law is attending my seminar with me, but she keeps pushing me to do the Ideal Protein stuff. I keep hoping my husband will come around to the idea of surgery, but he continues to tell me I am crazy. No other diets I've used before have lasted and I'm just expecting a miracle cure and this won't work. Makes me sad and angry. On a positive note, I have my parents (my dad had lap band done 5 yrs.ago), a close friend who also had the lap band 7 years ago, my sister who lives 1500 miles away, and two amazing neighbors to keep my @$$ motivated and on the right track afterwards. I've also got support here and on a couple of other message boards and forums. I'm determined to prove all my doubters WRONG!!

Hertsukfem31.......i would be willing to bet my last dime that your head is telling you that you are hungry and NOT your stomach!!! Its been almost 5 months since my surgery and I still cannot tell when my stomach is telling me that I am hungry. It's all in my head!! Remember that they cut out 80% of your stomach.....not your brain!! Our stomachs didnt make us obese.....our heads and emotions did. Keep your chin and head held up HIGH!! You will get through this and be a MAJOR SUCESS!!!

Your SIL gave you a gift. The gift of knowing who she really is and that you should limit your contact with her and never trust her with anything ever again. Right now it feels awful, but push the embarrassment aside and tell yourself that her behavior is a reflection of her, not you. It may also help to discuss this issue with your brother if you have a good relationship. Then he will understand why you have to pull back from her.

I was just recently "officially" diagnosed with horrible sleep apnea. As stated before, the machine takes some getting used to, but it's amazing to feel rested in the morning once you get used to it!! And yes.. it should actually help your chances at getting surgery. It's considered a comorbidity (sp?) I believe.

I would not assume that your 6 month supervised diet will be waived. You need to check with your insurance company what their requirements are. They will be the ones that hold you accountable to their requirements.
For example my insurance required a 6 month supervised diet, that I use a bariatric center of excellence, that I have a BMI above 40 or 35 with comorbitities. I actually had a life threatening illness and was told it did not matter, I had to go through the process.
Now, some insurance companies don't have any supervised diet so it all depends on yours.
My insurance covered 100 percent because I had met my deductible for the year. I just paid all the co-pays for all the Drs. Appointments until I met my yearly deductible.
    Good luck!
