TMG1980TMG reacted to misspastor in One year later
It has been a little over one year since my surgery and I have lost over 120 pounds. I'm enjoying every day of my life just to see me go from over 300 pounds to under 200 pounds is amazing. The best choice in my life health problems are disappearing or getting better.

TMG1980TMG got a reaction from MarciaN in Decide not to have surgery?
This is me 100%- I have lost hundreds of pounds over the last 20 years...it is the ability to maintain that has been an issue.
What are the reasons you wanted surgery? Have any of those changed? Where do you think you will be in 6 months? A year? Will you regret getting the surgery and losing weight? Will you regret not getting the surgery if you don't lose anymore?
Really this is such a personal decision! Good luck with whatever choice you make! ????????

TMG1980TMG reacted to otillie03103 in Three weeks out
Hey guys! I am new here. I had my robotic gastric bypass 10/6/15 and all went well. My highest weight was 250 lbs (BMI 44) and I hovered around this weight for a good five years. I was extremely unhappy with my appearance, I had no energy and became short of breath easily with exertion, the knee pain was excruciating at times. I adopted a son almost two years ago and was determined to become healthier for my family and myself. After yo yo dieting since the second grade (yes my first diet was when I was eight years old), I finally had enough and realized I needed help. I spoke with my PCP, expressed interest in the gastric sleeve and she referred me to our local hospital's obesity treatment center. I had all my appointments, stuck to a low carb 1200 calorie/day diet and exercised for an hour every single day, sometimes more! The weight came off much quicker then expected (which had happened before, but I could never keep it off). When I finally met my weight loss requirement I was cleared to have surgery and I ended up changing my mind and having gastric bypass instead due to a long discussion with my surgeon. I am three weeks out now and am down a total of 57 lbs so far. I would like to lose about another 63 lbs. I didn't realize how much I had physically changed until I recently had to buy a new dress for a wedding I am going to and I placed it side by side with a picture of myself at another wedding in 2011. I almost started crying. I am on track to getting my life back.

TMG1980TMG reacted to Karlnjax in Funny story about Aetna & Hospital Bill
So I had my RNY done in 8/10/15 and due to a couple of complications I was in ICU longer and my hospital bill came in at $176,870.00. So now Aetna contacts me and asked if I had any other insurances they might be able to share the cost with? I said NOPE just you sweet people at Aetna LOL.

TMG1980TMG reacted to Karlnjax in It's official 100 Lost
I had my RNY done on 8/10/15 and as of yesterday I am down 100 and feeling AMAZING!!! I only have about 45 more to go and my question is how does our body or system know it's time to stop losing more weight? It's coming off so fast it's almost scary not knowing if it's going to stop when I need it to?

2.5 weeks before surgery I had homemade carne asada nachos and 2 Crystal light margaritas with patron.

TMG1980TMG reacted to lauraellen80 in Doc says no fruit--EVER
Well, if I am screwing up by eating fruit, so be it. If it comes down to weighing a few more pounds vs. having horrible Constipation and anal fissures (which I liken to pushing out a bouquet of rusty razor blades), I'll gladly keep the few extra pounds. Because that's what was happening to me without enough fiber in my post op diet. I eat two prunes or half an apple--always as a snack with some nuts, almond butter, or cheese--a few times a week. But hey, I also eat those evil carbs in the form of oatmeal, Beans, and quinoa, so what do I know...

TMG1980TMG reacted to PayItForward in Doc says no fruit--EVER
Maybe your doctor was talking about juicing? Juicing removes all the Fiber and you are left with only the sugar.

TMG1980TMG reacted to del112 in Doc says no fruit--EVER
Rubbish!
No fruit ever.??!! Equating fruit to sugar with a Vitamin? ?? Nonsense!

TMG1980TMG reacted to Sajijoma in Doc says no fruit--EVER
Wow, my NUT doesn't recommend avoiding anything completely because it causes cravings and promotes binges. I was told not to over do the fruit but mainly because it's not filling and can make you hungry again faster leading to more calories and snacking, but that we should try to have 1 serving a day once able to...after the Protein of course.

TMG1980TMG reacted to VSGAnn2014 in Doc says no fruit--EVER
No, my bariatric program encourages eating fruit -- after we have conquered Protein, colored veggies, and have a little more room left.
I think your surgeon doesn't know squat about nutrition.
Many fruits have a lot more going for them than "just a sugar stick," including Fiber, Vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants, phytonutrients.

TMG1980TMG reacted to WorkinOnMe in ONDERLAND and a 25 year Victory!
Weighed in today for the Halloween Challenge & have finally made it to ONEDERLAND!!! scale read 198.1 this morning. I am almost 6 months out & have now lost a total of 104.9 lbs.
So excited to see a 1 at the start of that number, but even more so at the fact that this marks another victory for me. I now weigh less than my husband! In the 25+ years we've known each other, this has NEVER HAPPENED!
Think I am gonna have perma-grin today!!

TMG1980TMG reacted to rte837 in First Post Surgery Meltdown
They are VICTORY marks! That's all. They subside over time. But I get it; BOY do I get it. I've had a total of 6 operations r/t my RNY and subsequent challenges. Look on the bright side; it isn't an incision that goes from one end to the other! Hang in there!! It IS worth it.

TMG1980TMG reacted to SleeveandRNYchica in 2 weeks beyond surgery still hungry 2,200 calories a day what's wrong?
I am also confused on your Vitamin regime. You said you take 1 chewable? Something doesn't add up. Do you have a nutritionist? Did they do a leak test post op?

It sounds like you need to be on the phone with your surgeon. I know mine has a 24-hour contact number. Call!
