    Hi all,
I'm new to the forum. Had a lap band for 5 years now with less than good success. Has been football player. 6 feet, 320 lbs, was a high of 350 at one time. Nervous about the surgery but my knees and blood pressure need it.

There are well known facts on the internet these days that may help you make your scheduling decision:
1.) December Sleevers experience .015% less post op hair loss than those sleeved in November. (Weird but true apparently.)
2.) Sleeves performed in November could result in uncontrollable flatulence in 99.98%, or less, of the recipients. (I've read that it has something to do with the tides and moon phases affect on the formation of the pouch during that month.)
3.) December Sleevers have been scientifically proven to be able to "Trust a Fart" 2.43% more than a November Sleever. (They are more patient and less likely to take a chance according to the research performed.)
4.) December Sleevers "Rule"....... while November Sleevers, may in fact, "Drool". (Although this is still a theory, some feel it is soon to be definitively proven to be true.)
5.) December Sleevers may be a tad envious of their November brothers and sisters and are 100% likely to fabricate statistics based on said envy.

Running up the stairs at to 75 foot tall zipline tower and being less winded than my "fit" friend who runs 1/2 marathons, then receiving instructions for the "little people" in the group to "ball up" on the zipline so I make it all the way across! Ziplining rocks BTW!

FWIW I have to be off any anti inflammatory meds for 4 weeks prior and after my surgery because they could interfere with clotting. You certainly don't want to inhibit clotting before your surgery and I would think it would be risky afterwards if you had any complications.
As eager as you are to begin your journey and avoid additional deductibles, my suggestion would be to wait. You know the old saying - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Best of luck with whatever road you choose!

Thank you everyone so much for all of your advice it has really helped. I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who just had the sleeve done a week ago and she told me that with all I'm going through now with crawling upstairs lifting myself in the sitting positions with just my arms ect, she told me to for sure wait also so I think I'm going to probably go to my doctor and see what my options are as far as holding off until I'm up on two legs, again thank you all for your advice and suggestions

I don't think that would be a good idea because blood clots are a major risk with major surgery. They can kill you. To help prevent them you are fitted with these sleeves over your legs that pump air into them to allow for better blood flow to the legs. A cast would prevent that.

The numbers/statistics are easy to get. I encourage anyone interested to research all to make their decision. I am 6'2" and was 441 before my gastric sleeve surgery. I had no problems. I have no regrets. I've lost weight relatively quickly (133lbs in 5 months) and still going. My quality of life continues to get better. I didn't realize how bad I felt before because I didn't have any health issues...but Wow, I was missing out and didn't know it.

I really don't know statically answers to all your questions. I'm positive some here can give you that information. But what I do want to say is that I know quite a few people who have opted for WLS as a tool to aide in obtaining a healthier life and the reward is far greater than the risk!
Stick around on the boards and you will learn a lot and be motivated!

Everybody said this doesn't hurt! They all f***ing lied! He was laughing which I didn't find amusing in the least. Then he told me ok now don't cuss...if I could I wound have punched him in the throat. Luckily he gave me something that kicked the pain almost instantly so then I could have kissed his face...that recovery room is a dangerous job!

Thank you for asking she is doing great she's actually adjusted much better than my husband who had the surgery a week before. I think because she's young but mature for her age it's actually been easier for her mentally and physically then it is for my husband who's been dealing with his obesity a lot longer. She's very hopeful and optimistic and excited to start exercising. It's been 2 weeks and she's lost 20 pds.

Beach guru, there are many adolescent bariatric Centers in the US. As matter fact there are thousands of teenagers getting bariatric surgery every year in the US, and as young as 11. Maybe you should find out who all the parents are and report them. While you are at it call the authorities on the many Dr's who perform them.

Thanks for your input.. Not gonna let fear control me..!!!!
The more I think about it and read up and learn everything there is about the sleeve I want it. I'm going to go into the options class and all the tests and MD/NUT appts with a positive go for it attitude.. I really want to be thin, comfortable and healthy. I don't want to limit myself socially anymore.. I'm super excited about the future and what it holds for me.. 2 ms is the class and possibly early next year the surgery!! Yay

*First of all, let me make it perfectly clear that this post is not a slam on people who choose to smoke marijuana*
I have recently been interested in the driving forces surrounding the stigma of WLS. I was doing some research on which states exclude WLS as part of their ACA insurance exchange programs. My state is one of them and that is why I ended up going to Mexico for my VSG (great decision, BTW!). What I was surprised was to see that Colorado is on that list. So in other words, the wise elected officials in Colorado feel that marijuana is a medical necessity, but helping it's citizens to lose weight is not. Neither WLS or weight loss programs are covered. And as "open minded" as marijuana supporters may appear to be, they also don't cover acupuncture.
Does this mean the potheads are better organized and have more savvy political skills than us fatties? (And this last sentence is meant to be a joke...Please don't construe it as name calling and I apologize if I anyone found it offensive)

    Lezzie..
i'm happy to help. I haven't written anything on this board since I joined prior to surgery...I'm not really the "group" type of person I suppose. But feels good to get it out there. Good luck to you! The sleeve will be the best thing you have ever done for yourself. But the 2nd best thing is going to therapy, work on those emotional eating issues, because you will need it. You'll be all set for the first year or two and then BAM you can eat again... again, good luck and i'm happy to have been able to help answer some of your questions. Let me know how it goes...

    OMG - FINALLY!!!!
    Hey Nikki,
I am pre-op and asked about this type of situation in the forum twice and no one answered. I am guessing its the "elephant in the room" situation. So I have to thank you - with all of my heart for this posting.
I am an emotional eater and am getting sleeved in February. I know I can lose the weight but also know my emotions are stronger than my will power (hence me being 314lbs). I was hoping that the surgery would help me get down to my goal weight and my emotions become controllable with help from a therapist.
Now the reality of how hard it will be to maintain is out there, I will work from now to seek professional help.
    Thanks again Nikki!

Glad this thread got bumped, I was just going to go searching for a tall ladies thread. I'm 6'1" and haven't been anywhere close to goal weight in so long that I have no idea what will be comfortable. I'm saying 175, just to have a goal for now but anything under 200 will be super exciting. Inspiring to read about all the success you all are having!
