  1. Fantastic article!! Thanks for sharing!! I know #1 is still my problem.....but I dont take gulps like I used to....just a small sip to moisten up the inside of my mouth!! And #8.......its so hard to get motivated and go workout by yourself :-(
  2. Hertsukfem31.......i would be willing to bet my last dime that your head is telling you that you are hungry and NOT your stomach!!! Its been almost 5 months since my surgery and I still cannot tell when my stomach is telling me that I am hungry. It's all in my head!! Remember that they cut out 80% of your stomach.....not your brain!! Our stomachs didnt make us obese.....our heads and emotions did. Keep your chin and head held up HIGH!! You will get through this and be a MAJOR SUCESS!!!
  3. @Rhonda137....... that is not necessarily true. It depends on how much insulin you were taking before and everyone's endocrine system is different. Before surgery I took 6 bottles of N and 4 bottles of R. now the week after surgery when i was on the clear liquid diet, I drank liquid Protein and broth and SF popsickles and took NO insulin. Once I started back on soft foods......i was back on insulin. Now I am down 85 lbs and still taking insulin.....3 bottles of N and 1 bottle of R. Maybe when I hit my goal weight I wont have to take any. IDK!! Please monitor your readings closely I have bottomed out so many times over the past 4 months thats its unreal!!! Good luck to you!!!!
  4. Totally hate it!!! like i told a co-worker....they took out 85% of my stomach......not my brain!! old habits are hard to break and i just hate going to the gym and walking on the treadmill....totally sucks!! You walk on it for an hour and you still havent gone anywhere. I try to make myself go to walmart or the mall to walk daily.....notice i said TRY!!!
  5. I told one person....they operated and cut out 80% of my stomach.....not my brain. My brain gave me all the bad habits to make me fat.....not my stomach. @@lexie I feel your pain as I have thrown up so much over the past 4 months that I told my son that I was beginning to think that I have anorexia!! LOL
  6. Mine have been very inconsistent for the most part. The first week post surgery, i took NO insulin whatsoever but as I started eating food again, I had to start taking insulin again. I have lost 83 lbs so far and I have cut my insulin intake down by 60% which I am very happy about.....so is my wallet. Just remember, as diabetics we need to balance the Protein and carb intake
  7. Having WLS is NOT the easy way out!!! It is a tool to assist you in losing weight!! Why won't your husband have the surgery?? On the other hand, IF he eats what you eat AFTER surgery, then he will lose weight too!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
  8. There's alot of factors that contribute to how much you should intake. #1 is your weight and #2 is your activity level. I was doing 600-800 a day and put myself into starvation mode. Now i eat between 800-1200 a day. you can find high calorie high Protein foods to eat that will help you so you dont have to drink Protein shakes and eat Protein Bars. Good luck!!!
  9. Brian, I had my surgery in Mexico. You stay there for 4 days so they can monitor you and check your sleeve for leaks. Now not to be harsh cold or cruel, but why do you need to have a follow up visit with the surgeon?? You will never see the surgeon again whether here or in Mexico. What post op care do you need?? Do you need to pay a doctor to monitor your progress and weigh yourself........no certainly not. Some people will agree with me and some will disagree. Is going to Mexico a safe place to go to save yourself thousands of dollars.......yes indeed!!! I do not regret going there to have it done. I didnt have $18,500 to have it done in Shreveport,La and with airfare I spent $4600. Good luck in your journey my friend!!!! My prayers go out to you that you find the answers that you are looking for!!!
  10. @Brian45502......you can certainly do it. Eat 1000-1200 calories, 80-100 grams of Protein, and no more than 60 carbs a day and drink a gallon of Water a day. If you are a soda drinker.....try to wean yourself off them so you can stop drinking them Drink 16 oz of water, 30 minutes before your meal. One little secret tip that I used to use when I was dieting before surgery was IF I was still hungry......I would fix some sugar free Jello and drink it. It gives you a fuller sensation. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.
  11. up your Protein intake and take your Vitamins religiously......add Vitamin c to your regimen. Everyone says that hair loss is normal.....maybe it is for a woman but i eat or drink 80-100 grams of protein a day and I have not loss one strand of hair. Good luck to you!!!
  12. JamieLogical.......no weight loss at all for 3 weeks. I small loss would be so much better than no loss!! @ Pac-woman, yes I did increase my caloric intake by a few hundred calories. Idk....maybe this is just normal. I read somewhere that you will stall at the weight where you spent the majority of your life at. I was 255-265 for over 20 years.
  13. OK.......so I knew at some point that I would hit a stall......but my question do everyone is........how long was your stall???? I've been stalled now for 3 weeks and it beginning to get a little depressing. I've upped my physical activity. This past week in 6 days, I walked 12 miles. I take Sunday off because I am involved with activities at church. Anxious and curious to hear everyone's response!!!
  14. I lost 15 lbs pre surgery and 15 lbs the first week on the liquid diet. Since then in 15 weeks, Ive lost 44 lbs....not quite a 3 lb a week average. Not exactly flying off BUT any LOSS is BETTER than any GAIN!!! GOOD LUCK AND KEEP YOUR CHIN UP!!!!!
  15. New whey makes a liquid Protein that comes in many different flavors. It has 42 grams of protein in a lil 3.8 oz bottle. I mix mine with flavored Water or propel. Good luck to you!!!!
  16. There is a place in Monterrey that does outstanding work and the prices are that of the sleeve $4300-4700 with a week stay included in the price....but for the life of me ......I can not recall the name of it. Good luck!!
  17. Talk is cheap!! If everyone wants to think that having WLS is the easy way out....let them think that. It's no skin off my nose. They are only showing their ignorance. WLS is a permanent tool HOWEVER, it CAN FAIL just like every other diet does!! I read a thread earlier and I'd like to repeat one line........." THEY OPERATE ON YOUR STOMACH....NOT YOUR BRAIN!!" Overcoming our bad mental habits is just as hard with or without the surgery. I used to watch the show regularly but then I read somewhere that over 60% of the contestants regain the weight that they lost. I really wonder who the biggest loser is
  18. I guess it really depends on the individual's taste buds. I tried it with Water, with crystal light and it made the crystal light taste different. I ended up mixing it body fortress vanilla powered Protein and used it all up.
  19. I thought it was because there wasn't enough protein in a person's diet
  20. Once a week......on Wednesday.....cuz Wednesday was the day that I had my sleeve performed
  21. Can you tell the difference between head hunger and actual belly hunger?? Old habits are hard to break and sometimes I find myself nibbling ALL the time......out of sheer boredom cuz my head tells me....."Oh my gosh......you are trying to starve me!!!"
  22. It happens to me quite often and it's one of two things. #1 I am eating too fast......or #2 its something that your sleeve is not ready for yet.
  23. Just remember ANY LOSS is better than a GAIN!!!
  24. grilled or boiled......yes.....fried.......no!!
  25. This topic has been brought up so much.......but the bottom line is ......its your choice whether or not you tell anyone. In my own case the majority of my friends and family aren't stupid. I've tried so many diets over the past 25 years and my weight has yo-yo'd. Now, at age 50, I've lost 70+ lbs......they know that something is up. If they ask......I tell them. Having WLS is NOT a guarantee that you will lose weight. It is an aid to lose weight.....just like every diet out there. You have to stick with it or it will FAIL. There is no right or wrong answer here......its just an opinion. BUT.......I would rather be judged and criticized for the person who had WLS than be judged for being the FAT person.....cuz eventually everyone will forget that you were once fat!!!!!
