sweetcheeks709 got a reaction from Elode in Left shoulder pain after VSG post-op
To throw my two cents in- my surgeon said that when/if they do a hernia repair, the stitch is right up against the diaphragm and that could be why the shoulder area hurts?

I would love to have a mentor on here. My MIL had rny about 10+ years ago so some of the things she can't help me with. I just turned 28 and I have 2 kids, my surgery date is 10/20/14, so I am starting to get really nervous about everything. How did you deal with it? I cant start my liquid 2 week diet until 10/5, and am so not looking forward to it as I dont do well with being really hungry. That being said, I'm afraid I'm not going to do as well as I want to with this. Ive seen some people say that they are hungry all the time and honestly I was relying on the surgery to make that go away, at least for a while. Im the type of person that once I start thinking about food, like a specific item, thats all I can think about until I have it. I've been getting better on not doing that, but I'm afraid that 6 months out I'll be back to old habits and undo everything that i've went through. Any advice?? Thanks so much

Hey all, thanks for the support! I had a pretty rough night. Doc changed my pain meds this am, and am now for the first time since I woke up in recovery I am not in pain! Yay! I might have to stay another night but I am able to tolerate Jello. When they brought jello and broth this am, I couldn't handle any of it. I'm doing better though. Have taken 5 walks and it helps quite a bit. Thanks again everyone!

Good luck with whatever you end up doing! I am personally going into the next state, and that's because it's the closest bigger city to where I live, which is out in the middle of nowhere. It's 90 miles away, but he's has a really comprehensive program and he's really nice. Again, good luck

sweetcheeks709 reacted to Ava324 in Asking all you post sleevers: What do you wish you had known or done before surgery?
    I wish....
I measured before starting pre-op diet. I was sleeved 12/10/13 and didn't record my measurements until April. I had started working out sooner. Happily, I've been kicking serious butt for months, but it's hard not to long for where I could be at this point. I had known that on a very basic level, the sleeve just allows you to crash diet without feeling much hunger and filling up quickly. You crash diet, and you feel those consequences. Bouts of weakness and dizziness. The Hair loss. Possibly needing your gallbladder removed on an emergency basis. There are a bunch of physiological changes too that separate it from a regular crash diet, but still. I knew how real the "window of opportunity" is. Lose as much as you can as fast as you can, because hunger can return with a vengeance and losing gets much harder. I would have a sleeve of steal and I would need a will of steal. I had expected the sleeve to force behavioral changes on me through negative reinforcement and conditioning, but that hasn't really been the case. I have not thrown up once. I have not been nauseous once. I haven't and will not have bread, Pasta or rice, but I've tolerated everything so far (eating too fast is painful though). Happily again, the decision to get the sleeve was a commitment to my health across the board, and I've overhauled my lifestyle and choices completely. I didn't know how big of a role choices would be in my success. I thought the sleeve would largely take bad choices off the table. Not the case. I knew that obesity is an incurable and chronic disease. I'm 8lbs from my goal, and I can't express how badly my body wants to pack back on the weight and how hard I'm having to work to get these last few off.. Fat cells don't go away. They shrink. They lie in wait, ready to plump back up and store store store. My body's "set point" is 289lbs, my highest ever weight. That's its default. In order not to get back to that, I will forever have to actively treat my disease.

    I OWN THIS DECISION!
I don't say my doc this my insurance that.
I made this decision. It was the right one for me. I don't look that big? You're right I look awesome when not stepping on the scale. Thanks to Lane Bryant and Calvin Klein and jones Ny for making great clothes that help me look not that big
But guess what? I am and I am suffering for it
    I own this decision
It's the right one for me
    I made this decision
    I appreciate your continued support
Negative opinions are not required. Keep them to yourself or get out of my life. One person has left and she lost 80 pounds still at 310. Misery loves company
I posted this on my Facebook the night of my sleeve when I woke up

If/when you have the surgery you may not even need to go see the heart doc anymore, and maybe that's why he's so against it, he doesn't want to lose patients! Probably the same with diabetes doctors and the like. My surgery is on Monday, so I can't give you my two cents about the bowel issues but there is something called dumping- when you eat something that has too much sugar or fat or you ate too fast, you can have issues. I suggest you look up dumping syndrome. I've seen a lot of people on here say they sleevers don't get dumping, but the nutritionist I have to see says that's not true, it's just usually not severe as if you had a bypass surgery. My advice is to research, research, research. Good luck with whatever you decide to do

    sweetcheeks709 got a reaction from dollface36 in A SIP?!?!?
At one of my pre-op classes, the NUT gave us a medicine cup, you know the kind that comes with a bottle of kids cold medicine or liquid tylenol? She said we could use that and probably get 3-4 sips out of that. I just finished all my pre-op stuff yesterday and I have to say I'm beginning to hate the phrase "sip, sip, sip, chew, chew, chew" lol

Is it weird that as I stopped to get fast food for dinner tonight, that I literally had a conversation with the bag of food? I lett it know that our relationship was an unhealthy one and that this was the last time we would be doing our thing together. Luckily the bag didn't have much to say in return, lol. I'm going to take its silence as a mutual parting of ways.

I can relate here. I certainly have eyes bigger then my stomach. I think I am putting small portions on my plate but I still end up leaving much of it cuz I am full! Crazy how little I eat now compared to my past life. I do still crave crave my breads, pastas, etc. I avoid them most times, but once in awhile I will have a bite or two of my favorite carb dish or bread item. That's ok for me. It helps me get past the craving because just a bite or two satisfies me now. I still always make sure I get in my Protein first at any meal. Of course by the time I do that I am full and the carbs are not so tempting. I reached one of my goals today. Hit the 50# loss mark this morning. Yeah!!!

Oct 20th is my date too :-) I'm hungry on the pre-op diet as well. I'm allowed a shake for b'fast & lunch & for dinner I'm allowed a palm size piece of lean Protein & the specified vegies. I can snack on carrot sticks etc & have become a drinker of black tea in the last week, having about 3 cups a day which helps a little with the hunger. Ring the surgery & ask if there's anything else your allowed.

My suregon requires you to use Optifast 800 Meal Replacement. I have to consume total of 8 per day (base on my BMI of >50). 1 can be a Soup, 2 can be bars for first 12 days. The rest of drink shakes. No real food at all.
I would call you NUT, they are better to advise you. Oct 20 is my date TOO sweetcheeks!
