Monday is normally a drag but when I got on the scale today I saw that I FINALLY have lost 100 pounds! I'm excited- but not trying to Celebrate too much since I know I have a long way to go. But still, I'm very happy!
Did you do anything special to celebrate your milestone? How did you feel? This is all still so new to me.

I am not "perfect" by any stretch of the imagination, but I did not have this surgery to continue the same unhealthy eating habits I had before. I am not dieting. I have changed my entire lifestyle from the food and drink I put in my mouth, to running, to working hard in therapy to deal with my eating disordered thinking. Why would I want to do the same thing I did before when I went to such drastic measures to make a change? That makes little sense to me, but if it is working for you and you are happy then that is what is important. Not what I do. And I tend to only tell people what I'm doing when they post requesting the information or in response to a question that was posed.

Kudos to you for that major weight loss. That is quite an accomplishment. I don't recall anyone on this forum judging anyone for what they have eaten or not eaten. I don't really believe there are any perfect people on this forum as we're all human and prone to make errors on a daily basis. Each one of us approaches our weight loss struggles in our own unique and individual ways. Most of the posts on here are just asking for support and clarification on diet delimmas. We can't fault people for that now can we? Some people can lose weight without ever weighing and counting or measuring and I'm happy for them but not all people can do it that way. Those of us that have to measure and count do so because that is what works for us. Many of us that had the Gastric Sleeve surgery didn't have problems losing weight in the past. Our problem was that we would gain as soon as we got off the diet which caused the yoyo problems of bad health. We're not dieting, we just changed our food lifestyle and this is our new normal. We too are using our expensive tool to keep us on track. Because we choose to do it differently does not make us wrong. In fact, the medical community encourages our methods over the one you have chosen. Either way, I wish you much luck and continued success.

It's common for people who are newly sleeved to imagine that their current eating situation is permanent.
    It's not.
You just had major surgery. You are learning again to sip and drink and eat. You're in the newly sleeved phases -- going from liquids to purees to soft foods. You're no longer on "automatic" with regard to eating and drinking. You can't eat much. It takes a long time to eat. Eating is different and uncomfortable.
This doesn't last forever. By three months out, you'll be so much more comfortable.
Go to the Veterans Forum here and read about the lives of people who are one, two, three or more years out. They have different issues. But not the ones you're complaining about.

Summer Rain reacted to LipstickLady in The "Idiot's" Guide to Easy Answers for the Nosy People in our Lives.
A hot topic for debate is to tell about our WLS or not to tell. In my opinion, the only "right" answer to this question is to do what is best for YOU. The choices you make about your body are deeply personal and you don't owe ANYONE an explanation or frankly, any answers at all about your weight loss. That said, the nosy nellies (and well meaning, but slightly clueless folk) are often relentless in their questioning.

I will not lie and I will do everything in my power to be polite (for a little while anyways) but firm. It's really not hard. I am just over 18 months out and I've not told ANYONE that I didn't want to about my surgery. Perhaps because I am not a pushover and when I speak, I leave little room for further discussion, but I have only had two people even hint around about surgery, and no one has had the balls to ask out right.

So my answers to the questions I've been asked or I've read that others have been asked (some copied from my reply on another thread):

How are you losing weight? "I'm working with my doctor, eating smaller, healthier portions and exercising."
Are you on a special diet? "I am working with my doctor to eat smaller, healthier portions."

What are you eating? "Well, my doctor and nutritionist have come up with a plan that works specifically for me."

Are you allowed to eat...? "Just like you, I can eat whatever I want, I simply choose not to."

How much have you lost? "A lot."

    Well, how much? "A lot."

So how many pounds? "A lot."

What size do you wear now? "That's a weird question."

How much do you weigh? :blank stare: "Why in the world would you ask that?" or "I'm sure you didn't mean to sound as rude as you did."

Did you have surgery? "Why in the world would you ask such a personal question?" or "I didn't realize you were interested in WLS. I suggest you contact a doctor." or "That's a weird question."

How much more do you want to lose? "I'll know when I get there."

Are you still trying to lose weight? "I am working on being the healthiest I can be."

So HOW MUCH have you lost? "A LOT."

Wow! You've lost a TON of weight. "Thank you."

WOW! You are shrinking to nothing. "Thank you."

WOW! You've lost a whole person. "Thank you."

You are going to blow away soon. "Thank you."

Wow. You can't lose much more, can you? "Thank you."

You are really getting too thin. "Thank you."

You eat like a bird. "You eat like a horse." No, not really. HA! "Thank you."

What other questions have you been asked or are you worried about people asking you? Give me something hard!

Summer Rain reacted to LipstickLady in Do you tell people you had Weight Loss Surgery?
I've told very few people because it's no one's business but mine. When people ask how I've lost weight, I tell them I am eating smaller healthier portions under the guidance of my doctor and I am moving my body a lot more than I was before.

What you choose to tell people is completely up to you. You don't owe ANYONE any information on your medical history or weight loss efforts. If you feel someone is crossing a line with you, you have every right to politely say so. Your body, your choice.

I totally support those who want to tell the world about their surgery as well as those who don't. This is a HUGE topic for debate on these boards and I truly hope those who think we should all be an open book don't come into this thread with the usual name calling and judgmental BS that typically happens.

and I'm not chasing ghosts anymore
now that I know the source.
I don't let them rattle me or disturb my day anymore
    Bunch of (analogous to 'cats')
    they lurk in the dark
spread rumors/lies- no clue what they've said
(can't defend myself- at all- not knowing)
instead of confronting me face to face
    how lame!
    my light's still shining bright
    and that pisses them off....
and my extreme weightloss pisses them off,
because frankly, I look great now. Turn heads even.

when i had my surgery, i was so large i could hardly walk...walking to the bathroom was nearly impossible.
i could not do anything.when i was at home, i marched in placed..2 minutes and i thought i was having a heart attack....at work, when i went to the bathroom, it was 84 steps one way. that was my exercise for about 6 months..i was so heavy, i could not do anything...the more i lost (due to me not being able to eat much) helped build my confidence..i started walking to the end of my driveway and back. thats it..and then i walked to the corner of the street...you dont have to run a marathon to lose weight..you just need to get your mind straight..so we have a weight problem..OK, we had WLS to help us..now we just have to help ourselves..somedays i dont wanna do anything but eat potato chips...my motivation is looking at my highest weight ever picture..and it was a 5x stretch skirt...i do not want to be that ever again..its either do or not...so you dont want to work out today....dont....just be careful with your calorie intake then...if you eat more calories than you burn off, you wont lose and may gain....so its vice versa....like @@finediva said...take a walk...walk down the hall and back........GREAT JOB if you do that...you can..yes you can....if you wanted to

Hello, so don't think of it like working out. That just sound daunting and you mentally don't want to do it. Just get up and walk. Just get out of bed and take a slow stroll. Just take a slow stroll a couple times a day. Then gradually go a little further. Not work out. Just walk. Walk first inside your house then try outside. Little distances. Just start. On another note, you maybe suffering from some depression. It happens to alot of us. If possible, talk to your PCP and get a rederral to talk with someone. Again, just walk. Not work out. Just walk. Start today. Best.
