Reddrobin got a reaction from ProudGrammy in Anyone lose more than 50lbs in this age group (over 60) ?
Seems as we get older it is much harder to lose. I was wondering if this premise is also true for those who had the sleeve. The reading that I have done seems that the older you are the less you lose. While it appears the younger you are the quicker the weight loss and number of pounds.
Please let me know if you have info on this topic and whether also having a thyroid problem slows everything down

Reddrobin got a reaction from CanyonBaby in Has AIC (Diabetic lowered/got normal nos) totally gone after sleeve surgery ?
Hi, I had my surgery in June. I was insulin dependent. Since surgery I have been off all meds for diabetes. I watch what I eat and while I have not lost the amount of weight I was hoping to I exercise daily by either walking or taking a Zumba class six days a week. This helps to keep my A1C in check. Good luck to you

Reddrobin reacted to livvsmum in GOAL! Flipogram of My Journey
Sorry for the crosspost in the success stories board also, but I wanted to post this here to encourage anyone just starting this journey. It's totally do-able, and if I can do it, believe me when I say, anyone can do it!!!
So yesterday I reached my goal weight, losing 134 pounds in 10.5 months. I made a flipogram with all of my monthly progress pics to illustrate my journey to this point. It was pretty awesome to see and actually made both my husband and myself cry. It's been a LOT of work and I've grown tremendously in strength both inside and out on this journey.

Ok, so I can't figure out how to embed it, so here is the link to the flipogram!

I was sleeved on 6/24. I doing fine with the liquids. The idea of pureed food makes me want to gag so my diet has been limited to, yogurt, mashed cauliflower, scrambled eggs and cottage cheese. Boring. I feel as if i have a bottomless pit. I never feel full and I do not get any signal. I limit myself only because I know I am supposed to. They say this will change once I get on solids. I still have a sharp pain on my left side whenever i bend over. I have not weighed myself this week but would not be surprised if i did not lose. At least i am down 26 pounds from my heaviest..
    Great to have this forum!!

Every Dr. It seems has their own opinion. My Dr. only wanted me to have the sleeve with my diabetes. She was totally against the RNY. All i can say is that my numbers have never been better and i am off insulin.

I am a type ll diabetic and was taking two different types of insulin 4x a day. I have not had any insulin in 3 weeks. My sugars are about 98 during the day. They do go up at night between 130-145 but i was told that number will come down as i lose more weight. I had the sleeve on 6/24.

I'm kind of like you, Reddrobin, I don't have the full feeling, so I am relying on measuring my food. I was sleeved on 6/5 and still on pureed foods, which is cottage cheese, refried Beans and yogurt and for a treat, I have a vanilla ice cream from McDs minus the cone, once in a while. I also get atleast a 40g Protein shake down too.

I found the information on 5daypouchtest.com, under "plan" and have done this 4 times since I was sleeved. I feel like it helps me to get past my carb cravings when I have been snacking too often, and I personally think it helps shrink your pouch/ stomach and limit capacity once again. It also helps with stalls. The first two days is Liquid Protein, shakes, broth, etc. The third day is soft Protein, eggs, fish. Fourth day is firm protein, ground turkey, ground chicken, shrimp, lobster. The fifth day is solid protein, steak chicken, etc.... Hope this helps!

I had my surgery at 7:30.this morning. Everything went well. Some pain and discomfort and nausea but all are being managed by meds. In the very beginning gas pain was terrible but has really eased alot. I wad on ice chips and they just bought me a clear liquid dinner. broth, Jello, protein shake. Broth was fery salty so so haf a bite of jello and a sip of the shake. Got some gas..
All in all so tar a pretty good experience. No buyers remorse yet but want the blasted catheter out.

I start my diet tomorrow. Not looking forward to it but know it is something I must do. Going to get Jello and popsicles tomorrow. I just hope I will remember all the rules after surgery, sip not gulp, Protein first, etc.
We r all worth it and courageous for doing this.
