Tell me your opinion...
I am going to Thailand at the end of this month, so I too asked my Doc and suggested an unfil might be a good idea - just to play it safe. I have 6cc in a 10cc band. He said, no, he preferred to leave well enough alone, and in his experience was that it caused problems further down the track. Enjoy your Cruise  HTH

tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far
Oh, man - so I'm not the only one fallen off the wagon this week. Apart from a fight with my husband, its been three days of eating crap. He bought me cakes 3 days in a row. The first day I said, lovely, what a treat. The second day, OMG, my favourite caramel slice. But the 3rd day, I had to point out he had just sabotaged me. I have his full support, but I couldn't believe the food just kept coming  So I blew it today too. I soooooooo don't want to be on the roundabout again. Onwards and upwards they say

Thanks for the explanation - I knew about the fat, but I didn't understand the rest, and your sponge analogy really helps. I still find it strange that our restriction "suddenly" lessens and wears off a bit as the weight loss isn't huge in those four days for me! Thanks again :tt2:

Perth people, where are you?
Hi Tegan, AFAIK Doc Watson only sees private patients. I think that might be why your SCGH waitlist is so long because you would be a public patient on Medicare. If you take out HBF or whatever now, check the waiting period for pre-existing and you might still be able to get it done privately. That being seeing, yup, Doc Watson is great. I was lucky enough to have a trouble free surgery and post op period.

Update for Striver

tenacious tens-what are your intolerable foods so far
I have never PB'd - thank goodness. I only have trouble with doughy bread. The only other thing I had once was caught in the car I had a Junior Veggie Burger - half the bun only, but my mistake was that I kept sipping the drink and overloaded. I've not had that since coz I leave the drinks LOL! I have no issues with meat as I'm vegetarian and so far can eat meat substitutes fine, and salads as long as I chew well. I still can't work out why the tightness is so great initially after a fill, and then eases off so much after 2 weeks! Does anyone know?

Surgery tomorrow
Just sending good vibes to you both, and everyone else who's surgery is coming up. I was spun out too - but I am so much more comfortable out the other side :cheers2:

Bruping, new sensation
I burp less I think. My first sign (and long lasting ) of over eating is burping and/or hiccuping. Goes for ages. Its slightly irritating, but sooo much better than PB'ing I guess. So I now actually take all burping as a sign over overload

Arghhh!!!!!
Hope your day has improved. Terminal Frustration - I reckon that is what will do me in. Sometimes its husband, sometimes its kids, or food, or work, or hormones, or me or kids, or work and just repeat ad nauseum!! :cursing: I seem to be coping okay right now, so Hugs for your level of angst

Weight Loss Totals
Well, today is a pretty big red letter day! Today I went to my Doc and I have officially reached half way :scared2: I always feel its more accurate on his scales LOL! I had plateau-ed recently, so I'd begun an Optifast 2 meal a day plus salad tea, and I think that coupled with finally moving my butt shocked my system :wink2: I have now bought a few clothes and, feel so relieved, its going to work, I can do this!! I have also tossed a few old big things out too - how good did that feel, wiping THAT dust from my feet:biggrin2:

Conversations you hear sitting in your doc's waiting room
I hear you all!! I also get really pissed off when I overhear people not taking it seriously. For me, it was one of the most serious things I've undertaken, you know, last chance. So to hear people "cheating" and laughing about it, although its their loss, it makes me MORE irritable and grumpy LOL!! I have sometimes wondered if, sorry, WHEN, I am a happy size, if the newly banded will glare and think, or say, "Why is SHE here???"

How to Target Under the Arm Flab??
I look at the area under my arms, and above my bra strap and my heart sinks and sense of accomplishment disappears What sort of exercises can I do for this area?

yoga-now my port hurts (sore) HELP
I do Yoga-Pilates - just 2 hours per week. I went back into it VERY slowly, or should I say carefully. Yes, I did get a little sore when I started, the first week was quite sore. The area felt quite warm too until the next day. I took it really easy the next week and its been fine ever since. I finally got to start on my weights/treadmill (nothing too drastic LOL) and the first day my port was really, pinchy and sore, but this settled very quickly too. I think perhaps both times I just needed to stretch into it and it was a shock to my system!

Flying - Unfill a good Idea?
I really appreciate all your replies. This makes me feel a lot better. I did sort of feel it might be a bad time for an unfill, but thought I would check Will, all those flights - man oh man!!!:crying: It is sooo long since I've travelled in Asia, and well before the new reg's re taking fluids in your hand luggage, that I am already thinking dehydration! However, I am sure i'll manage. I feelmuch more confident now I've read all your posts - thank you!

Flying - Unfill a good Idea?
I am going away for a short holiday, and will be flying. I am only half way on my loss journey, and so don't want to "pig out", and undo all my work. However, I will be travelling with my son who has no idea I had this surgery. So I am seeking feed back on two fronts: 1. Your experience of the band and flying - mine will be a 7 hour flight soon, and I have a 23 hour journey at Christmas 2. I have never PB'd or gotten stuck, but with foreign food and unfamiliar territory, is the best course an unfill for my holiday? I'd really appreciate your opinions and experiences

Do you miss eating?
For me, it was a little while, and my only salvation was working working working. I knew I ate for boredom as well as stress, comfort and anxiety, but I didn't realise how much food/time was consumed by eating for boredom:blushing:

Oct 07 Bandsters - how are you doing?
This purile behaviour is so sad  I am sorry you have to be contact with these saddo's on a daily basis. I have only suffered this in the early days when I became a vegetarian, my reasons are ethical ones. I eventually became so tired of these cretins that gradually I attended less and less functions, and didn't bother eating in the work lunchroom anymore. Recently it became easier, as life and people move on, but I won't put myself in that situation now. It is a bit the same with my band, only my husband and I know, and I don't regret this decision. I feel so bad for bandsters who have shared their joy and hopeful expectations with, family or more particularly work colleagues, only to be really suffering mental anguish down the track. I really hope you can deal with this harrassment, Hugs

need some reassurance!
Gosh, that sounds so familiar! I was even unsure waiting in the OR for the anaesthetic. Really, I thought WHAT am I doing? However, I sort of decided amongst the panic and fog, that I couldn't feel any worse, and I had no hope left, and so I had little to lose. About a week after surgery I think it was, I started to get used to the idea. It was about 1 month before I thought, maybe this will work. Over the weeks the band did its work for me, and my fear of vomiting did the rest. I now feel I have the control, not the food, and I am so glad I have done this. I had hoped to work harder at the exercise, but I've been taking it slowly and I am happy  I hope you are soon on the other side, and your fears and worries will have subsided. Good luck with your journey!

It's working!
 SO Glad to see you are losing Holly - that is great  Good to hear everyone is still hanging in there !

I am on a plateau and if I don't get off soon...
I am stuck on a plateau too right now:(. I haven't been working out hard like you, but I know from past experience how depressing it is to keep working and feel like nothing is happening. To get past my plateau I am starting a week of Optifast as I feel I am stuck in a rut.

Protein Shakes
I do occasionally, but I am about to go on them for 1 week to kick start a weight loss. I'm a bit plateau'ed so I hope this will get my numbers falling again.

Let's get to know the TENS...come on you know you wanna!
Firstly - Congratulations - you'll virtually half way - that must be wonderful. I have finally managed to get on the treadmill - we've had awful hot weather here so the heat has been appalling and the break in the weather has been the incentive to finally get me going (well, that and a looming trip!) I have been doing okay I guess as I've been taking it slowly, but today was the day! I also went shopping as my biggest clothes were too big, and my small clothes are too small so I had to have some "now" clothes to work in and generally err wear!

lapbanders called cheats
Quite possibly, but I personally, was not up to dealing with anymore judgmental comments, or have to try to assert myself and justify my actions. Some things are personal, and I believe we all have a right to privacy if we so choose.

Perth people, where are you?
Sorry, been away - should have read SPLENDA, not spenda!! And really, the Opti strawberry,to me, just tastes like a strawberry milkshake. I just make sure i used iced Water for them. I also have them for dinner and lunch the day of a fill - just to be safe :frown:

How will I know that it will work this time...?
Me too! It has taken a while, but that is true for me too - most of the time :frown: I can think and desire and then crave, and when it comes to the crunch, man, what do I do with all the wasted stuff? I can't lay it all on my dogs LOL! It usually isn't worth it for so small a portion I can actually fit in - this is very satisfying in a weird way
