How many WA Bandsters?
Hi Matilda, Perhaps you have a low metabolism - I can't believe all that exercise. I am struggling to do any right now, and awaiting my first fill. I am dreading and yet hanging out for my fill as I hope it will help with the silly season round of food. Good luck on your journey

Banded, now what?
Well, I really appreciate your long posts - really really supportive and helpful. Carrot, I have printed yours out to re-read when I need some instant support. I feel like I hae a tenuous grip on my "diet" - to say the least :cry I still feel really tired too, and almost unbelievably weary, but I dont' know if some of this is post anaesthesia or not. I don't think its dietary, because I am eating "almost" normal. I guess my big plus right now is that the band, although not restricting hunger is stopping the bingeing, because I would rather have a broken leg than vomit!!! Thanks guys - big cyber hugs

How many WA Bandsters?
You must be feeling so disappointed. Has Doc Watson suggested any dietary changes for you?

Keeping it a secret?
Lady Trisha, try to pretend those work colleagues don't exist. What a bunch of *****s  I'm sorry you have had to suffer this, and how fabulous you have made the decision to change your life. Good luck on your journey, and know this board is here for support, lots and lots of it Hugs

Banded, now what?
Carrot, I understand, your advice to Holly - thanks for the post as I am benefiting too I feel discouraged because although 7kg is gone, I feel like, I have never been able to make the time or energy to exercise, and I had sort of thought I would have loads more energy, and dedication - and I don't. At this point, its now become "god, another diet". Exercise is the biggie, I know all the positives etc, but I just can't sem to get my ass onto the treadmill. I did take the dog out one morning, (youngish dog, 8 months) and he lunged at the bit the next door neighbour, so now I feel dread evening thinking about it . How have you *gone there in your head* to get the motivation?:help:

My first fill . . .
Hi Lizzee, Way to go! Sorry to hear about the night trauma. Me too, I forget to drink at all, I used to drink a lot with meals. And now I get a sudden need to drink lots, and of course gulp - and then I remember. So far so good, but your experience is a timely reminder

Expectations vs. reality
Hi Oh Juli Thats interesting too. I get panic attacks since an incident at my workplace several years ago now, and it never leaves, not totally. And it sneaks up on me, and I cope, sometimes with medication sometimes without. With my weight, this was badly affected - hand in hand with this incident. I sort of look on that attack and repercussions that is a form of disability that i just need to live with. With weight, I have always viewed it something that will be with me all my life, but perhaps I should take that a step further, like the panic attacks, as a sort of disability/illness that needs to be constantly dealt with but that I CAN DEAL WITH now I have a band. Thanks for that insight

Fruits and Vegetables
I know what you mean. I am having salad veggies prior to my first fill, but haven't yet tackled apples or pineapple. I started at about 3 weeks with shredded lettuce and sliced tomato for that fresh taste/feeling. So far, that sort of fresh is all I have had.

Expectations vs. reality
Just wanted to thank you for this thread  I am waiting for my first fiill still, and finding that my old habits are creeping back, and I have to really fight for portion control.
-
Are you exercising?
Me too Holly . I just feel like I have absolutely no time, but in my heart I am fat and lazy. And the sweat thing, absolutely!!!! Thanks for this thread, and Congrats Carrot

Can't tolerate it...
I am thinking that when I get my fill, I will be stopping bread again. I am weak, and have a salad sandwich most days. I am eating "sensibly" for the first time in years, which does give me a sense of control I have not had in years also. Filled People - can you eat most fresh salad vegetables?? (as opposed to potato and macaroni)

whoohooo!!!
That's great news  :clap2::clap2: I've just gotten clothes a bit looser so far, and doesn't it feel good ?

Banded 10/5/07 with no faimly support
Hi Shhhh Lots of support on this board - I dont' always get a direct response, but I know there there are always people here who understand  I have my husband's support (even though we just had a BIG fight ) But I haven't told another single soul. I don't think I could deal with so much as a sideways look - so its better for me to tell no one. I hope you have lots of success, and you'll soon see great things . I am waiting for my first fill, and am hoping it will deal with some full issues - but the exercise and head issues are still with me of course . Hugs

Drinking Fluids With Meals
I am finding this terribly difficult. All my life I've been told not to drink with my meals, and now again! Boy, it takes concentration, I still catch myself with a glass in my hand. I have no fill so far, so its not too drastic, but I'm in training for my first fill, as barfing and me - we don't get on!!!

After Surgery Gas...HELP!!
Hugs I was really lucky, but everything I read and prepared for was: 1. Walk, walk, walk 2. Gas medication from the chemist 3. Peppermint tea 4. Hot packs 5. Some soluble pain relief - I used panadol soluble. Good luck, and I hope you get past it soon

Banded, now what?
Hi Holly Carrot, and everyone else in the doldrums. I'm there in a big way :help: I had FRIES for tea I lost smaller amount initially, and have lost a bit more. I have started having Berocca every second day (ARE there calories in those???) and until tonight I was really good - well, healthy wise. I have a whole wheat sandwich, about 2/3 with salad for lunch, tiny Breakfast, and small tea, sensible controlled food. But its so hard. I feel little restriction now and I called into the board tonight to see if anyone else is where I am. October 22 was me. I can virtually eat anything, and I have been doing okay by normal standards, but I had thought this period would be so much easier than this. I feel totally despondent, and am now having trouble sleeping. :faint: On a brighter note I have had a big decrease in post op discomfort. How are we all going to get through this time???

I'm home and banded!
Deez I agree. I'm a vegetarian and I've been justifying this for nearly 20 years. I mean, its my choice, I don't ask people not to eat meat, so WHY do people feel they need to lecture me about why I need meat? Lord knows, I'm not underweight!!! I do admit to be a bit embarrassed about the band, I sort of feel, its sort of a failure in my err ?? what self control - probably lots of things, but I'm sure you know what I mean. I just want to try and concentrate on succeeding this time

Optifast Help
Shock! I actually like the strawberry & the coffee. I wouldn't dare try the soups - YUK. With the vanilla, they were all I could get initially, and I doctored them with some frozen berries and some artificial sweetner and always added a bit more Water to stretch them out. I did quite well, all things considered, but all was setting my mind/will that it WAS enough for a meal. Tastewise, I guess the strawberry one saved me. HTH

TENaciousTENS "roll call" as promised!
Hi Julie, That's not good, but I'm glad you will be getting it sorted out so quickly. I hope it all goes smoothly

I'm home and banded!
I didnt' tell any of mine but my husband, coz I just am not up to any grief - got enough family hassles! I hope she "pulls her head in" and let's you get on with your new life. I think we all have enough to cope with without judgements and if she thinks its easy, she should walk a mile in YOUR shoes, or mine, or other bandsters. Hugs

No fill until January!!!
Misty, this sounds like me - except I think my first fill will be 6 weeks post op. But I'm not two full weeks out, and apart from volume, can eat many foods. I am a veggie, so meat isn't there, but I have had half a veggie sausage and some mashed potatoes during my mushie stage. I force myself not to have a sandwich each day for lunch. I find the different instructions from all our doctors quite confusing as the intensity varies so widely! I am getting really hungry, but so far, hanging on and no caving in before dinnertime. My doc said "only eat when hungry", and mornings are usually no hunger times, but as the day wears on and stress builds, my tummy grumbles I had an opti shake tonight because I felt I needed the nutrition, and I have started a berocca per day too.
-
My first fill . . .
I had no idea that you were back on clear fluids - I don't have my first fill for several more weeks. I too thought Opti would save my day!! I hope it settles quickly for you.

Need advice from my fellow Tenacious friends!
Hey Amy! You are always so "up", I can never believe it. I'm sorry you are at a rough spot. I seem to be a constant state of (my usual) lack of confidence, depression, down on myself. I have lost a bit of weight, but as I didn't have an terribly high BMI I worry I now eat things I shouldn't because "i can" and "i haven't had my first fill". My surgery was on Oct 22, and the mental turmoil is a lot less now, but I am so busy with work I don't know which way to turn. This week has been a nightmare and my tummy aches - way too long on my feet. Unfortunately there are only the two of us to run our business and its "that season". I was REALLY lucky with my post op gas/pain and don't go to my Doc for another 3 weeks. I just wonder that it isn't my "normal" mentality kicking back in :cry I can eat a mashed avocado sandwich without crusts, - I thought I shoudln't be able to do this - things like this. I mean I am very careful and chew and I beat myself up, and think, its not like chocolate, but I'm not exercising yet, I'm soooooooo tired. I read the board a fair bit for support, though I feel bad sometimes I don't have a lot to offer others.

Sorry, I have never heard of it - but others might have ?
