need some reassurance!

I am 4 days post op and I am a little panicked and need some reassurance from those who've been banded for awile. I researched the band for a year before deciding to go ahead with it. I feel like it's the only way that I will ever lose the weight I want/need to lose. That said...even though I realize that it will eventually lead to a healthier, hopefully happier me...I can't see that far down the road yet.

Basically I am feeling like, what the heck have I done!!! I feel like I won't ever have a normal life now. Does that feeling go away? Or did anyone else feel that way? I need some support!

I think that most people have the what the he*@ have I done moment the first week after surgery. I scared my poor sister to death since the band was her idea! The feeling goes away pretty soon and you will have a normal life - I PROMISE! Also, I think that the anaesthesia causes some depression in some people (like me).

I felt the same way. It will be okay. The weight loss will start taking the panic away. I think we do have to mourn the loss of the old way we ate. We had a strong relationship with food and it is different now. I so want to gorge sometimes I would use food to calm down. Now I have to look deeper inside of myself. I am still so glad I did it, but it has not always been easy. You,ll be fine...

Gosh, that sounds so familiar!

I was even unsure waiting in the OR for the anaesthetic. Really, I thought WHAT am I doing? However, I sort of decided amongst the panic and fog, that I couldn't feel any worse, and I had no hope left, and so I had little to lose.

About a week after surgery I think it was, I started to get used to the idea. It was about 1 month before I thought, maybe this will work. Over the weeks the band did its work for me, and my fear of vomiting did the rest. I now feel I have the control, not the food, and I am so glad I have done this. I had hoped to work harder at the exercise, but I've been taking it slowly and I am happy

I hope you are soon on the other side, and your fears and worries will have subsided. Good luck with your journey!
