Hi, I too am 4 days post op and sick of the sweet stuff. I went to trader joes and purchased 2 different carton soups and mixed both. One is black bean, one is corn/red pepper. They are both velvety smooth consistency so no straining necessary. 4grams protein per serving. It's spiced quite nicely. Highly recommend.

@@superbariatricbabe I'm one week postop and looking to find new coping mechanisms other than food. The first few days all I wanted to do was order chinese...I was stressed (we are moving too..so our place is chaos) and felt.. naked, like there was nothing that could console me.
Hoping new outlets will be exercise (jogging, hiking, tennis, swimming, biking...).. but what else??!
    good luck!

It all depends...I am not big on adding fruits in my shakes cause for me the Protein shakes are sweet enough. Also what you want to be careful of is the sugar in the fruit. You dont want to add a lot of sugar cause its carbs and that can slow down the weight loss. So my best advice would be to try to stay away from fruit at least early on. I do eat blueberries and cherries time to time. I barely eat apples or oranges (they are hard to digest and I am 4 months out), I do eat bananas once in a while and at times I might add them to my shake to add more flavor. pineapple, grapes, mango and even bananas are high in sugar. Here are some interesting articles that tell you more about fruits...

I am overjoyed this morning to report I weigh 199! It is a big day. Most people can say I haven't weighed that since...but honestly I don't know when I last weighed this as I avoided the scale. I am so excited to say I joined the onderland club! 25 years ago I was around 170 I believe. I have had a slow weight loss compared to some but it is going down and I am thrilled nonetheless. Yippee!

Lthomas reacted to Bandista in Chia or flaxseeds? How to incorporate into diet..
I love flax seeds and chia seeds! Flax has such a nice nutty flavor. It needs to be ground in order to get the full benefit, whereas Chia does not. I mix Chia seeds into my Greek yogurt to thicken it up so it's not a slider food. The band works through esophageal squeezes up to the brain that will signal satiety, so it's good to have something to chew. I also add a few walnuts and gluten-free Cereal flakes, etc. for this reason. And for another six grams of Protein I also put some collagen in (very low in calories). I'm a bander so not sure about sleeves and seeds -- be sure to check on this as chia does indeed get gelatinous and swell up.
Here's a great piece comparing the two -- Superseed Throwdown: http://www.easy-vegetarian-diet.com/chia-seeds-vs-flaxseeds.html#.U8Z6ZKhvtNY

I remember the day after I retired. I had to MAKE my own Breakfast, because i was used to stoppng by McDonald's on the way into work and get an Egg McMuffin, hash browns, a cinnamon bun, and a large orange juice....which I ate all of while driving. I had to make my own lunch. I was used to picking up something in the cafeteria. Then I had to make my own supper. I was used to stopping by Burger King two blocks from the parking garage to get a chicken or fish sandwich, fries, and a large DIET (ha ha) coke. Then.... a mile from home (this was a 22 mile trip) stop at McDonalds and get a ice cream cone, then stop by the McDonalds two blocks from the house and get a salad for dinner.
Now I look back and see how rediculous all of that was....an oh my, the calories...no wonder I was big. I was clearly addicted to the grease, salt, and sugar infused in the food. It certainly wasn't the ammoniated slurry that the burger meat is rinsed in at the processing plant. I am so glad that my daughter does not feed that crap to my grandkids.
I was as much addicted to the habit as I was to the food itself. I couldn't eat a Twinkie - it had to be at least four. A cookie - no, a dozen with tea and sugar. One of the biggest adjustments I have had to make is to break old habits in how my day was scheduled. This walk is hard - real hard, but I do not regret my surgery, either.

I tried the Boca crumbles last night with taco seasoning and ate it as a lettuce wrap! OMG, it was so yummy and I ate it again today for lunch. I made tortillas for my family and let them eat it without telling them it wasn't meat. and they loved it and couldn't believe they had another meat free supper. The vegetarian lifestyle is fitting my new lifestyle very well and I'm at the point where I don't really miss meat or chicken anymore. I am still exploring fish options because I've never really liked fish.
I am allergic to shrimp but would love to try in case I am no longer allergic, but I'm kinda scared.

I was told to avoid hair treatments for a year. It's not a hard and fast rule, more of a suggestion. Hair loss from 3-9 months out is common and can be anywhere from barely noticeable to severe. I think the thought is to try to minimize the hair loss by avoiding chemical treatments and to use gentle hair products. My hair was more dry and brittle after surgery and I experienced quite a bit of hair loss which finally tapered off in March. My hairdresser noticed last week that I have a lot of new Hair growth so for now I'm keeping it short while the new hair catches up to this length. I plan to hilight it at my next cut in August.
A common myth is that Biotin will prevent hair loss. Also that getting all your Protein will prevent it. Neither PREVENTS hair loss, but both can provide the nutrients your hair needs to maintain health of existing hair and new hair when it starts. Hair loss is caused by the physical stress to your system due to surgery and rapid weight loss, (it can also be caused by emotional stress and pregnancy). The hair loss begins 3-4 months following the stress trigger and can last for 4-6 months before stopping and new hair growth begins. You can Google WLS+hair loss for a more detailed explanation.
