Jammil0411 got a reaction from AllysonB in Any Florida Sleevers?
I'm in Brandon, Fl and was sleeved in Tampa in 2014. I'm very happy with my results. I,m still not down to my personal goal, but I reached my surgeon's goal for me. I'm still overweight, but no longer morbidly obese.

I know it's my own fault. I certainly am not able to volume eat anymore. I still want to lose the last 20 lbs., but I can't forego sweets. It's Valentine's Day. then it's Easter. Before that it was Christmas and Halloween. If I could kick the sugar habit, I know I could lose that last 20 lbs. I've gained 10 lbs and it's bothering me. I went through hell to get this surgery. Now I need to get to my goal weight of 135.

OK it's true that I know how/why I gained the weight. My husband was transferred to Florida 2 years ago. I didn't start gaining until we got here. We live in a town that is very resort-like. So we are always living life like we are on vacation. Drinking wine and margaritas by the Water and eating out. It gets hot here so I became too lazy to work or walk outside. But I know these are NOT REASONS, they are EXCUSES. What would I do differently? Keep exercising, stop grazing on potato chips and skip the alcohol.

We ALL wanted to lose weight. We ALL did lose a lot of it when we started . We ALL really are discouraged and dismayed to gain it after all of the efforts we put into it. The point is that many of us made the life stlye changes...working out 3 to 5 days a week was not something i did while i was gaining weight. Cutting out all simple carbs when my diet was mostly carbs is another life stlye change i made. The ONE life style change that i cannot keep permanent is not binge eating. The truth is we cannot deal with that because it isn't a factor in the way we live. It's something physical that's going on with us. Its not a weakness on our part. Deprivation is not something we can do 24/7 for the rest of our lives.
    That's what i believe.

Most Forums are filled with questions and concerns of Newbies -- which is mostly what this site is for. Veterans tend to leave the Forums and go on with their lives.
Just thought that reading the posts of those who've made it thru might encourage you as it did me...

My gas pain never really started until about day 3. I still had some this morning and my surgery was on August 25. It is slowly going away. But I never had it in my chest, mine was in my shoulder.

I'm only 3 days out, I had mine on 8/28. I still have bad gas pains, but their not steady. I would have one bad one for about a few seconds then be fine for about a minute before next pain. I'm able to take the hydrocodone, but it seems to give me slight chills and makes me sleepy. It's expensive, so I try to only use it when seems unbearable and I try to save it for when getting ready to goto sleep for the evening. I would just give it time and remind yourself that you just had the surgery and you still need to heal, especially on the insides. Hang in there. I try to hold a blanket or small soft pillow up against where the pain is in chest and by the belly area.

I think the stats say that people on the average lose about 65% of their excess weight. But being an average, there is bound to be a wide range of what people lose. I'm now 3.5 lbs from goal so I've lost about 95% of my excess weight. It only takes 1 person who loses no weight to give the two of us an average of 50% lost. (That was a bit convoluted, but I hope you see what I mean.) Also, if someone gets the sleeve with 200 lbs to lose, it's possible they might not lose the entire 200 lbs, so that messes with the averages as well.
I'm praying that I can maintain this loss---that seems like the bigger battle to me.

If you went on the charts, I needed to lose 48 pounds to get to a "normal" BMI of 24.9 or 155 pounds at 5'6". At 65%, that would have only lost 31.2 pounds in a year. Well, I lost 70.8 pounds in less than 9 months. Seems like a lot of us on here have met our goal or are very close to it in 1 year or less.
I wonder if this is a stat for all WLS as a whole? I know there are some who struggle with losing the weight on VSG, but it seems to be a small percentage. And, I don't mean that to sound as trite as it probably does in writing. I so feel for anyone struggling with any weightloss - VSG, RYN, DS, Band, calorie counting etc. We've all been there and know the scars of those battles.
As far as getting to where I am ... I wish I could say it was all me and my strict compliance, but I haven't done very well at all on the exercise and haven't been such a stickler on the carbohydrate counting either. Having said that, I know that more exercise will help tone me up more & get off the last 7 I want to have gone by Christmas.
All of that is to say, I don't know why your nut told you this. It does sound a bit defeating, doesn't it? Maybe use it as a way to motivate yourself to "beat the numbers". Show them that your sleeve will take you to your goal!

I'm only 3 months out and my surgeon said the same, but if you look here a lot of people lost their excess weight and more! That is what the average person loses but I'm hoping to lose most of my excess by going to the gym and working my sleeve to the max. I lost more than half of what i want to lose now(about 60% of my excess), so I'm quite confident that I'll lose more, and I'm even thinking now that I don't wa\nt to lose that much more cause i think I'll be too skinny. So i guess it depends mostly on us and the way we work our sleeve and not so much on the statistics

    Hey Guys,
I was sleeved Aug 22nd and was curious if everyone is following their NUT plan to the T. I'm having a hard time with the Soups and broths, and have been eating some mashed potatoes and some eggs and cheese sticks. I do chew it like a million times before swallowing , my stomach seems to be alright. I'm losing weight which is awesome (down 19lbs since Aug22nd) but I want to be sure I'm not screwing this process up.
    Thanks in advance everyone!

I'm on liquids this week and I am able to get all my liquids in. In fact I was a little worried because I can get 7 oz in in one sitting. It may be different with Protein Shake but the liquids go down just fine. I do have a little cramping still here and there but nothing I can't handle. Thank god I've had a great recovery so far. That is other then the headache the other day. I'm walking about a quarter of a mile or so. Tomorrow I hope to walk a half of a mile. I haven't been tired yet but I guess I better get prepared for that. Thanking god everyday!

I was sleeved on 8/18/2014!!! It was a surreal experience! I never thought that having ANY surgery would be this crazy!! Not even labor was as intense as this surgery!!! my hospital stay was great. I had a great team of staff taking care of me!! but now I cannot seem to get my liquids down!!! it takes me about 3 hours to finish 1 16 oz Water bottle! And the Protein Shakes? Forget it!! I cant deal with them!!

Tomorrow is August 28, 2014 so I'm packing my overnight bag and getting ready to be at the hospital at 11:00 a.m. I will be sleeved at noon. My husband said he can't come and get me until 4:00 p.m. on Friday because he has to work until 3:30 p.m. They won't let me leave unless someone comes to get me. He thinks I'm very brave. I think we all are brave.
