Help! Too tight?
Have you just had a fill? If not have you been getting stuck lately? If so it could be that your esophagus is swollen. You need to rest it so it can go down in size again. Stick with soups and soft foods for a couple of days. If after that you still have a problem you may need to see the doctor. But you might want to call the doctor first anyway and see what (HE/SHE) says. Good luck

typical day
Hi Serenity-I remember when I had no restriction and what I did was try to limit my calories and meet the protein requirements my doctor set for me. I used The Daily Plate to keep track of my calories and nutritional needs for me and it really helped. Good luck to you.

clear liquids to full liquids?
Hi Brandie-I was only on clear liquids the day of surgery. The next day I was on cream soups, cream of wheat, etc for a week. After that I had a week of soft foods like cottage cheese, tuna salad, chicken salad, etc. Then on to regular foods if tollerable. Each doctor is different it seems in what they require you to do diet-wise.

Frustrated,Depressed,and Still Just As Fat!
I am sorry for your disappointment. I am glad you have made your appointment though. Is your band filled enough? I am sure once you go to the doctor they will work with you to get you back on track and fill your band if needed. Please don't give up. You took a big step getting the band and your support group is here and at the doctors office. Don't beat up on yourself either. You are probably harder on yourself than anyone. Hang in there, okay? Try to be positive that this will still work for you.

Hello from Sunny California

I'm not ready to be a lapband Granddad
Hi Steve, Yes it absolutely was your gray hair. By the way you have done a fantastic job on your weight loss and should be very proud. I let my hair go "natural" a couple of years ago and since then I have been treated like an old lady. Inside I am still a kid and act the same but it is true. People react to the hair color and don't consider the person unless they know you. But your friends and family matter and I am sure they love you and are also proud of your accomplishments.

A place for bandsters in their 60's
Stan, I had hunger quite often until my last fill. I am either at my sweet spot or very close. The best bet for snacking is to eat something with protein. That will satisfy your hunger as well as meet your protein goal for the day. Good luck to you.

"chugging" soup and drinks
Hi Little Froggy and Restless Monkey. If you can swallow in gulps, chances are you aren't restricted. If you were it would just sit half way up your esophogas until it drained through the opening to the stomach. So don't worry about stretching your pouch out. Once you get some fills you'll see what I mean. Good luck to you both.

Did your Doc require a pre-op diet?
Carly, Hang in there. You can do it. In fact, each doctor is different and has his/her patients follow different diets. My doctor only had me on the first day of clear liquids and then a week of soft foods and then regular foods. It sounds great but I haven't lost the amount of weight some of the other people have lost. I am happy with my loss but some would have preferred more weight by now. At your age more weight faster would be okay. At mine the skin wouldn't be so forgiving. :tt2: Good luck to you.
-
Can this really be done?
Well Grammy this isn't a diet. It is a tool to help you through whichever diet you chose. It isn't the end all solution to weight loss, you still have to watch what you eat but if you check out this forum you will read about all the success stories here and you too can be a success story. You'll find the people on this forum are very helpful and nice. Best wishes to you.

How much "pain" is normal?
Hi Cindi, I think the problem you are having may be that you are eating too fast and taking too big a bite at a time. If you slow way down and take tiny pieces (the size of an M&M) and chew very well until it is mush before you swallow it you should notice a big difference. I have a similar problem if I don't concentrate on slowing down and chew, chew, chew thoroughly. Give yourself a break and eat soups and soft foods for a day or so and then try something solid but take 30 to 40 minutes to finish your meal. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Just starting in Florida
Hi Jan, No you aren't too old to have this done. I was banded in March and I am 60. I am only sorry I didn't learn about this procedure years ago so I wouldn't have had to lose the weight so many times. It is the best decision I have ever made. However, it doesn't take away the desire to eat. It is mearly a tool to help you not eat so much. My biggest problem was portion control and that is not an issue anymore. Good luck to you and keep us posted as to how things go. You'll find the people on this board very helpful and friendly.

30/30 Rule
I also follow the guidelines, however every doctor seems to have different rules. My doctor says no drinking 10 minutes before eating and one hour after. I follow these guidelines. Good luck to you

Surgery is Mon. (23rd), Please HELP me!!!!
Hi Rene, I am not a patient of your Dr but I did want to wish you the best and to tell you to calm down. Everything will be alright. I didn't have to take a laxitive before my surgery I was just told nothing to eat or drink after midnight and my surgery went just fine. Take a deep breath and calm down and you'll be ok. Good luck to you girl.
