I got the OK today from the nutritionist to enter phase 5. The last and final phase. I can eat all kinds of food. So excited to add salads back into my life. I use to eat a HUGE salad and now 1 cup will seem huge. Can try an apple with no peel at first but then see if I can tolerate with the peel. I did try a 1/2 c of salad on Saturday, knowing I would only be 2 days early and I did fine. Chew, chew ,chew. I feel blessed that I finally after 32 years of dieting have a real tool that works for me! It tells me after 2 oz of chicken "you are done - don't push it" and I don't. I have not vomited, no slime or had any trouble (other then terrible constipation) but that should take care of itself now that I can add some roughage!! from the very first day I decided to go forward with this procedure, I haven't looked back. I just had an awesome vacation and I was unable to bring food/protein shakes because we were on a motorcycle but I did fine. Just concentrated on Protein, Protein, protein and did fine. Treated myself to a "kiddie" size soft ice cream - without an issue. Even had a couple glasses (small) of wine and didn't get drunk - just softened the nerve endings (if you know what I mean)
Good luck to all of you in the beginning stages - it does get better but make sure you follow the rules. I always kept my paper with instructions in front of me all the time, so I stayed on track.
To those that are having issues - I hope they resolve soon and you can start enjoying the benefits of this surgery. I hope to be in Onederland soon - 7 lbs to go. Been years since I was there! I lose about 2 -3 lbs a week. It's slow by some but I am happy - it's coming off and that's all that matters. I haven't "lost" this weight, I have watched it leave, every damn pound and said "good riddance!! You are never coming back here"!!!

I'm almost 2 years out from surgery, and still losing in drips and dribbles, I've loved almost every aspect of having WLS. I've loved the smaller clothes, the CUTER clothes, the stares, the compliments, ALL of it!! EXCEPT! I would like to write a memo to the designers of pants, blue jeans in particular.
Dear Blue Jean Designer People,
I love your product! It is roomy, durable, comfy, can withstand multiple uses without washing, it truly is the universal napkin! My only complaint (and it really is quite a serious and big one) is pockets. I have gone from a 24 to a 4. My legs have shrunk, my thighs have shrunk, all of the junk in my trunk...has shrunk. HOWEVER, the items that I like to carry in my pockets...HAS NOT SHRUNK!! When I was a 24, I could happily carry my cell phone, my keys, chap stick, I'm convinced I could have even smuggled small animals and children in my jeans pockets. I loved it!! If I didn't want to carry it, I popped it in my pocket! My HANDS even fit in my pocket!! Now, I'm lucky if I can squeeze a toothpick and half a penny in the pockets that you make for the size of jeans I wear now. I am thouroughly disguisted! Yes, I AM SERIOUS! I cannot tell you how many times since wearing size 10 jeans and under I have left my cell phone somewhere, been left with parched dry lips because I didn't have/couldn't fit my chapstick in the tiny fold of fabric that you try to pass off as a 'pocket'. I have wasted at least 16 hours of my life digging for keys that are lost somewhere in the bottom of my gigantic purse while juggling groceries, and simotaniously sweating/freezing the death. I am convinced that you are now in cahoots with the purse industry. Since I have been able to buy smaller jeans, instead of being able to cherish the extra funds, I've had to spend it on Much. Larger. Purses. I'm onto you, and your shenannigans! Don't think that everyone is complacent about your lack of design and the sham that you are pulling! I have almost enough mind to cut out your 'pockets' and sew in my own!! I'm watching, I know, and I am spreading the word!! Give me my pockets back!!
Sincerely,
One Pocket Lovin' Lady

I am also on day 2 of my pre op diet. I get 3 Premier Protein shakes and either a lean cuisine, weight watchers, or healthy choice meal. I cannot exceed 870 calories a day. I am also agitated. I am hungry not hurting hungry but want something to eat. I have a headache and am tired. I have to do mine for 2 weeks and 2 days.

I had a very painful 10 days after surgery, but I don't regret any of it. I'm down 140 lbs in 15 months. And I almost feel like a normal person. :-) I would do it all over again in a minute. I just wish I could have had it done at 20 instead of 46. Good luck with your recover. I does get better, it just takes time.

Don't laugh but I got a wii u fit with the balance board and it works me out real good since I got this a week and a half ago I have lost three pounds. You can run hula hoop yoga, balance workouts. I am hoping this will help me to build up my endurance to start going outside and walk. And hopefully one day run a 5k that is my dream.

Mary Cade reacted to Kindle in Shakes How long?
I started the thread called " changing how I consume my protein" because I ran across some info about Protein absorption rates. There were others who posted responses knew more about it than me. I am the 40g Protein Shake gal (premier shake diluted 1/2 and 1/2 with skim milk gives you 40g). I had been drinking the shake over 1-2 hours, but after hearing about how much our bodies can actually absorb, I've switched to drinking 1/2 (20g) in the morning over an hour and the other 1/2 in the afternoon. This way, I know I am getting all the protein I need between the shake and the food I eat without having to obsess with tracking and measuring.

At six months out I still have a Protein Drink with 30-40g Protein every day. I don't do the Protein Bars because they all taste gross to me. My restriction is so much there's no way I could eat enough to meet requirements without the shake. But if you are getting enough protein from food then you should be fine. Just make sure you make up for the decrease in Fluid if you stop the shake.

If your shakes have that little Protein I wouldn't bother with them either. I drink Premier Protein with 30 grams so I really need it most days as I can't hit my 75+ just with food always.

Mary Cade reacted to Melodica in Why am i feeling this way
The only time I have a sweat/sick feeling is when I eat something high in carbs or anything with regular sugar. I tried a couple of sips of a milkshake and it made me feel awful. Carbs like bread and Pasta have done the same thing. Strange that I still crave them.
I'm also having a lot of trouble meeting my Protein and Water goals. I'm never really thirsty anymore (and so bored with fruit flavorings for water) and I'm having trouble finding things to eat to get the Protein I need. I've never been a big cook and I hate preparing meals, so it's difficult for me.
I hope the meds help you feel better! I can't imagine having that feeling the whole time.

people can be rally crude. Once when I lost a lot of weight everyone was asking if I had cancer. Was I sick? Now they are asking how I'm losing weight. It's like they don't notice until one day…then it looks like you've lost it overnight. Haters are gonna hate. I love this new way of life. Would not change it for the world. Just don't like the drama involved.
Happy Losing,

Besides the nice "wow, you look great, I barely recognized you" comments, I've had several people ask me if I've been sick and yesterday a third person asked if I had cancer. Really? I think thats just such a weird thing to go blurt out...I mean these are clients, not "friends". I have to reassure them that I'm fine, and they all tell me not to lose anymore weight, that I look great where I'm at. (Of course I do )Good thing I haven't had any Hair loss or I'd really have the rumor mill churning.

Mary Cade reacted to iloveadam2003 in ways to doctor up your protein drinks
OK so I had my surgery May 21st and the Protein Drinks I had were not working for me (I wasn't able to stomach them). I loved them prior to surgery but had to make some changes. I was taking in 40 grams or less of Protein and would have surges of energy then get super tired (and I'm just a newbie). Here's what worked for me:
Isopure zero Carb fruit punch
Pour half the bottle in with half bottle of Water and use a Decaf ice tea with lemon Water Enhancer....delicious ice cold!
Premier ready made Protein drinks :
vanilla : pour out into blender cup, put spoonful of decaf instant coffee, ice, and a packet of splender and blend....its like coffee ice cream with protein!! What you don't finish ..freeze and when you're ready to drink the rest thaw a bit in your microwave...reblend and enjoy.
I could stomach the icey Protein Drink versus the thick drink...you can also eat with a spoon.
chocolate premiere protein :
You can use coffee like the vanilla and make an ice mocha Protein shake or just add it to blender with ice a splenda maybe some SF chocolate pudding and blend.
I hope you try it and enjoy. I also hope this helps someone who needs to up their protein too. Its helped me a lot.

salad 3 months
Refried Beans, mushy stage, about 4-5 weeks
Avocado 2 months
Nuts, 6 months

The rest we don't go there. No bread and Pasta in our house and no sweets. A few bites of something you might be okay but a bagel would stick in your chest like lead. I make ground beef/turkey and add taco season but no shell or tortillas. You might get by with something a time or two, a few bites, and feel like it would be okay, and the next time maybe not so lucky. I had a small piece of soft chicken get stuck in my chest at 5 weeks and learned a lesson I won't soon forget. Felt like a heart attack. Good luck and here's to healthier living!

Hello all! I'm new to the site! My name is Antoinette and I'm 29 years old. I'm pre-surgery going through Dr. Kim in Texas. This is not the first time I've attempted to have weight loss surgery. I've tried two other times, but always hit some type of snag with the insurance company. Well since working at my current job, two people told me they successfully had it through our company insurance which is Anthem BCBS. My initial appointment was 03/22/14. I'm 5'1" and my weight was 359.8lbs. I chose the gastric sleeve option. The nurse tried to talk me into getting the duodenal switch but i decided against that. I was told by Dr. Kim he wanted me at 325 or less before he would schedule me for surgery. That sounded astronomical to me. Lol. But, i was ready for the change! I started my pre-surgery weight loss on 04/01/14 and as of today I'm down to 336.8. I have a weight check appointment next Wednesday and trying to figure out how to drop this 11 pounds in one week. Lol.
It's almost like a dream that the only thing i have left is to drop 11 pounds and complete my psychological evaluation. I can't believe this process has been so smooth. The hardest thing has honestly been me trying to lose weight on my own. A lady at the office gave me this website to find encouragement buddies and i decided to give it a try.
