Had my first PB today... Cool
a PB stands for "Productive Burp" which is the coined term for food that is thrown up because it gets stuck and can't pass through the band's restriction. It's not real vomit, in the sense that it hasn't mixed with gastric juices. I cannot give any personal accounts of one though, luckily! Never heard anyone refer to their PB as "cool", interesting take on it!

I think I had a NSV
Who cares what fit you last year! The fact is you're down a size and that's an amazing NSV! Congrats Ang!

New Weight Challenge: "Spring into Weight Loss" Challenge
Thanks Sades for starting the challenge! Hope you don't mind, but I got rid of the numbering on the left because people are probably going to add themselves to the wrong list, so might as well cut out a little bit of the confusion! And if all the people after this joining want to add their names alphabetically, it will be even more simple to find your name for the update! Name........... Dropping a shoe size?
I've been an 11 for a long time and now my shoes are loose on me! The annoying thing is that most shoes don't come in 10.5 because after 10s, the shoes go up in whole sizes. So my 11s are loose but the 10s are too small! I hope my foot shrinks to the 10 soon!

I need a swift kick in the...
Yay Ang!!! Slow and steady wins the race! Starting out slow is great. I started getting in shape pre-op and I walked really slowly and only for shorts amount of time and then I added a few more minutes and made the pace a little faster when I felt ready for it. It's the only way to do it or else you'll just give up! We'll start a Knockouts Exercise Challenge for March! I figured we wouldn't do a Feb. challenge because while some of us (like myself) were at the beginning on Jan, there would have been a bunch of people who would be only a week or 2 out of surgery. Ang, I would be careful about going to Curves because even though it's not "weightlifting" per se, I would still consider it as such and I was told to wait 6 weeks for weightlifting and such. Right now I'm using the treadmill and I plan to start back with the weight machines in a week or 2.. I also get a decent amount of walking in during the day because I have to walk across campus to get to and from my classes!

Melena(SP?) Band
I read on one of the sites that it's also called a "Dacron band". I think dacron is a material they used for the band.

Ddr
I have DDR at home and I love it! I have the soft pads, which I like better than the hard mats they have in the arcades. I haven't done it since being banded, but I got a good work-out with it pre-band. Once I got more experienced, I could do harder songs and I could get my heart rate up higher. And it was a fun addition to the usual treadmill and weight training.

Long, Strange Trip...
Hey Jim! I was wondering where you went since you posted a lot and then just disappeared! First I thought that you were too busy with stuff to post, but I figured you would pop in once in a while to say hello so I started to worry that something had happened. And apparently something did happen, but glad to hear that it's been mostly resolved and that you're feeling better!

Today was my surgery date.
Amber, I can't imagine how hard these past few days have been for you. It takes a lot of strength to follow what you know is the best thing for you, especially after being so invested in this process! You will always be a member of the New Year's knockouts. You were one of the first here! And if it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have our logos! Good luck with everything and don't forget to pop in once and a while to check in and update us! Be well!

Drinking water...
Just keep sipping. I had 24oz bottles and would refill them. I used them so I knew exactly how much I was drinking. My goal was to finish two of them plus the liquid of my Protein shake and broth. If you're not a big Water drinker, I agree with Sandy on the Crystal light. It doesn't feel like you're drinking water. Or just drink more broth. When I was bored of water I would just have some chicken broth. What else are you drinking throughout the day? When do you start creamy Soups and such? Hydration is really important now and it will always be. I really believe drinking 64 oz of water a day helps with weight loss.

banded on january 22nd, 2008
It's totally fine Angie! I'm almost 3 weeks out and my port incision is still tender. You had surgery less than a week ago. It's usually the incision that's sore longest because you have an object stitched in under your skin. Hope you're feeling better each day!
-
question?
Usually, the hospital gets you up and walking around soon after surgery so you don't develop clots. Also, in the hospital you will most likely be giving you a shot to prevent blood clotting. I was given a prescription for 7 days worth of injections to prevent blood clots as well.

Banded on 1/25, home and doing very well!
Hey Diane! So happy to hear that everything went well! Glad the pain isn't too horrible! Thanks for sharing your experience so future bandsters can know what they might expect! Be well!

banded on january 22nd, 2008
Hey Teresa! Welcome to bandland! I was banded on Jan 9th and it was also my first surgery! Glad you're not feeling too horribly. LBT (lapbandtalk) has tons of posts about how things are post-op, but you can just check out all the threads from the Jan 2008 forum since we're all posting about our first couple of weeks post-op right now. We're all going through the same stuff right now as well as having many different experiences! For me, the first few days I was in a lot of gas pain, though plenty of people hear had absolutely NO gas whatsoever. 4 days post-op was a turning point for me and I started feeling better and was able to tolerate more liquids each day. A week later I was feeling so much better. Each day gets better and better! Good luck with everything!

I'm home, I'm banded and this is how it was...
Most people do 3 stats, which is surgery/current/goal. Some do four because their high and surgery weights are different, like I did. You'll see in my sig I used letters H/S/C/G so you know that it's high/surgery/current/goal. Good luck with everything!

I'm officially banded, and home!
Amy. I had surgery on a Wednesday. Thursday I had no where near that, maybe 12 oz the whole day? Friday I also had no where near 72 oz. Friday I had 33 oz of liquid. I also couldn't physically tolerate that much. In a few days you'll be able to tolerate more as the swelling goes down. Here are the amounts I had the next few days: Sunday 66 oz, Monday 70 oz and by Tuesday I was getting in 100 oz+ and I stopped counting because I knew I was getting enough in.

Banded 1/9/08, first adjustment not until March!!!
Hey Alisa! We were banded on the same day! My first fill was scheduled 2/28, 7 weeks after surgery, but the doc had to move it to a week later in March so it will be 2 months post-op, so we're in the same boat! Congrats on losing 17lbs, that's great! I also got that hunger feeling back, which I was aware would happen. I did low-carb before surgery and I'm just starting to go back to it because the Protein is what keeps you the full the longest, like citygirl said. Now that I can eat pureed tuna, chicken and tofu and eggs, I am moving away from the baby food, which was a life saver during the first 2 weeks. I'm hoping that will help the hunger, and the weight loss!

Banded on the 22nd!
My doc allowed me clear and full liquids the first week, I don't know what your doc allows, so follow what he/she tells you. Everyday I drank (and still do) a Slimfast chocolate low carb Protein shake. I love 'em! I saw you asked about protein. They have 20 grams of protein, though they do have 190 calories and 9 grams of fat. But the convenience of not having to mix it up myself and the fact that I like the taste, it's worth the calories to me. So I drank 1 of those everyday, not all 11 oz at once, but 4 oz here, 4 oz there etc. I was also "eating" baby food, which I never thought could taste so good. I really liked the oatmeal and Pears because the oatmeal gave it nutrition and there were Vitamins added as well. With some sweet'n'low, it tasted like apple cobbler! I also ate cream of cauliflower and tomato soup. Second week I started pudding and yogurt and I continued the liquids, though my doc gave me the okay to start a scrambled egg and pureed chicken, tuna and tofu. I held off til almost the second week was over and I added egg drop soup and tofu to start getting in more protein. Hope you're feeling better each day!
