I'm on Atkins. I had my consultation for surgery at the end of July and I decided I wasn't going to wait around for 5 months and not try to lose weight. I did Atkins once before and lost 50lbs and of course I gained it back. I know that I feel great when I cut out all the sugar, processed flour, junk etc. Since I knew that I would be getting the band, any weight I could get off now would be less for me to lose with the band and I also wouldn't be gaining it back like I did the last time. 315 was my highest but I actually started around 305 in August so I've lost 55lb since then. I still have a ways to go and the band is going to help me do it and keep it off!
