  1. That's AMAZING LA! Congrtulations! You earned each and every one of those pounds!!!! When you've made an effort to get healthier and it reflects on the scale, it's a great feeling! You feel on top of the world, and you should! Good for you for sticking with your pre-op diet. Keep reminding yourself that by continuing to do this you are shrinking your liver so it will be easier for your doctor to do your surgery. That's what the office woman at my doc's office said to me when she saw I lost weight since last time. Plus, you know what else is great? If you keep it off til surgery, you will be 5lbs closer to your goal! Congrats and Keep it up!

  7. How's the liquid diet been treating you the past few days Chrisann?
  8. Here are the top two winners from the last poll to decide our group name. The choices are the "January Jewels" or the "New Year's Knockouts". Regardless of what you voted last time, you may vote for whichever one you want. This poll will close Saturday night (Sunday morning at 12:50am) December 30, so that we will have a name by the first surgery (ie Chrisann's on Dec. 31)
  9. Have no fear. I am making a poll that will close Dec 30 at night, the night before Chrisann's surgery. The two names with the most votes that will be in the poll will be January Jewels(8 votes) and New Year's Knockouts (15 votes)
  10. Hey fellow Jan. 08 Bandsters! Come on over to the Monthly Lapband support forum just for January Bandsters. It's a place just for our month where we can share our experiences with those who are getting the band around the same time! Looking forward to seeing you there. There's a poll that's closing tomorrow night to vote on our "group name" so come and vote! Looking forward to seeing you there! 12. I agree because there are so many choices in the first poll. Is everyone okay with that?

  14. Here are 2 threads with bathroom scale recommendations http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/bathroom-scale-21700/ http://www.lapbandtalk.com/f17/what-good-bathroom-scale-42390/ I have an electronic one that just does weight. The brand is Thinner(you think they're hinting to something?) It's not the best. It has a 330lb limit and it worked when I weighed 310 lbs. You can't always get a consistent reading. I can step on it once and it will give me a reading and then 20 seconds later it gives me a different number. So even though you can't fudge the readings because the number is what it says you are, the number isn't always right or it changes. I now use a mechanical Health-o-Meter scale that is at least 20 years old but is very accurate. It has the little leveling bubble to balance the scale. You can't fudge the readings on this one either. Either the bubble is balanced in the middle or it's not. The difference between this one and my digital scale can be a 6lbs. difference. My mechanical one says it's a "doctor's scale" and so far, my numbers at home have been perfectly consistent with the scales in multiple doctors' offices. I did not pay for this one and I have no idea how much was paid for it. I know that doctor's scales like these run a bit expensive starting at $150 and many are more expensive. You may not have to buy the expensive ones if you don't want to spend the money. Just find one that gives you consistent results so you can see the changes from when you weigh yourself to the next time you weight yourself, but just know that the scale at the doctor's office might be slightly higher than yours. Good Luck
  15. I watched it. Bill and the other 3 finalists were on. Then Jillian came on and then Bob and Alisson Sweeney(the host) came on to speak about their experiences on the show. They spoke about the next season starting Jan 1st. They also took a little stab at weight loss surgery. I think maybe one of the contestants on the next season had wls and they lost and then gained weight back, not sure though.
  16. mcgreen, Congrats on making your goal and making it to onederland a few days ago!
  17. It's so important to have those who are closest to us be supportive. My parent's were actually the ones who initiated the idea of having surgery. Both my parents and siblings are big people. I think all of us on our own decided that we would never do gastric bypass because it seemed to radical of a surgery to all of us. Then my parents went to a seminar in our area to get info on the lapband. When I heard that they went, I didn't know what the lapband was and I was completely against any type of wls(weight loss surgery) because I assumed bypass was the only kind out there. I was so surprised that they had went to the seminar, knowing their feelings about bypass and I didn't even want to hear about it, it wasn't an option for me and I tried talking them out of it. When I finally decided to listen to them, they explained to me about the lapband and the next week we had a consultation with the doc and as they say...the rest is history. Here I am less than 3 weeks away from surgery and I couldn't be more excited! Needless to say, my parents and siblings are 120% supportive of the decision.
  18. Medical Clearence appt. and pre-admin. testing went well. I was on a high yesterday and I'm psyched up for surgery! I'm not nervous right now, but it might settle in the night before I'm guessing. This will be my first time in the OR. I'm not disappointed in myself and I don't think any of us should be. Society has made us to believe that you can be a normal weight as long as you have a "healthy diet and exercise". Guess what? My best friend eats and eats and eats and doesn't exercise and is still skinny as a stick. I can sit down and eat the same amount as some of my friends and I will gain weight and they won't. That's just how it is. So much goes into what determines our weight like metabolism, heredity and our genetic makeup. I'm not excusing our bad eating habits and food choices, it's just not the end all be all of why we're so overweight. And it's not like we didn't try to lose weight, we all did. As a personal example, I'm guessing you all noticed that I've lost a lot of weight pre-band. Yes, I'm on Atkins and it's working for me and I feel great. I could trick myself right now to think "hey, look how well I'm doing with my weight loss, I'm at the lowest I've ever been in my adult life, who needs a lapband!" But as soon as I get tired of it and I go back to eating carbs like a normal person, I will gain it all back and then some. The cravings will come back and up my weight will go again. I know that's going to happen, because it happened the last time I did it. We deserve this! We deserve to have a healthy life and to not worry that our weight is going to kill us one day. No one should make us feel like we're taking the "easy way out". Surgery in itself is not an easy decision to make. The band isn't going to cure everything, it's going to help us. We're going to struggle with changing the way we view food and eating We're going to struggle with "that's what a normal portion of food is?" We're going to struggle realizing that we need to exercise becase it's healthy. I sure wouldn't call that the easy way out! If this is what we need to do to get ourselves healthy, so be it. So kudos to everyone who decided to have this surgery to improve their lives for the better! Okay, I've said my piece for the day.
  19. I've been using Fitday since August for my low-carb diet. I like it, but maybe I would like another one better. How do you like The Dailyplatet as opposed to Fitday? There's also Free Diet Plans at SparkPeople which I think is free as well. Anyone have any idea how that one is? CallmeJim, I see you added a ticker and stats. I see you're down 25lbs from your highest, congrats! Are you on a pre-op diet?
  20. Welcome to the Jan 08 bandsters Shanarene! Congrats on your surgery date!
  21. I've had a surgery date since August so I figured I shouldn't waste the time I have until my surgery(less than 3 weeks away!). I'm doing Atkins/low carb and I feel great when I'm on it. It works....until you stop, everyone knows the routine. My motivation has been that as soon as I get the band, all that weight will never come back as opposed to gaining it all back when I get tired of it (like I did last time). Congrats whosyadaddy, Candle and Trystelle on reaching your goals, and then some!
  22. That's great Chrisann! I'm sure you feel great that you felt satisfied on so little. Definitely a great motivator! You deserve it! Congrats!
  23. Why would one of the dietitians be pessimistic? What is there to be pessimistic about? It seems like you are a reasonable candidate for surgery. Is that dietitian specifically for bariatric patients or just a regular dietitian? I know how you feel about waiting and just wanted to do it already. It's a long process sometimes, but I definitely think it's going to be worth it in the end. I have had my Jan 9 surgery date since August. 5 months is a long time! But guess what? Time flew and now I'm less than 3 weeks away and I am so happy I had these few months to read up on the lapband and do more research. I feel much more prepared than if I were to have done it a month after my consultation. Think of the time you will have to wait as a period to get yourself more educated about this life altering surgery. Since August, I come almost daily to Lapbandtalk(LBT) and just read as much as I can. I realized how much I didn't know about the band. I suppose "Patience is a virtue". Though I've also heard people say, "Patience is a virtue.......that I don't have"! I try to stick with the original saying! Everything will come in its time!
  24. I was thinking the exact same thing 4jin. That's why I want that name to win because it's very "versatile". I like "Drop the W8 in 08" but that's more a slogan someone can put in their sig line as opposed to a group name. That could apply to any month of 08.
