  1. Phentermine is potent. I took it several times before having lap band surgery...only to gain all my weight and then some when I would go off it. It made me extremely moody and my heart would race. It made me really jittery to. I would not recommend taking it if you are trying to have lap band. Stick to your diet and consult your dr. before taking any type of diet pills. Good luck to you!
  2. I was also worried about other surgeries. But I took a leap of faith and so far so good! I am from Georgia and I went to The Gastric Band Institute. www.gastricbandinstitute.com My cost with all pre-tests before surgery was around $14,000.00 because I was a self pay. They charge $20,000.00 for insurance patients. Good luck to you!
  3. I paid using my 401K savings. I had just enough to cover the surgery. I'm 33 years young and thought I can save more before retirement, but if I had not had the surgery I may not have lived to see retirement! It was worth EVERY single cent to me!
  4. I had the same problem after my 6th fill. Went for 2 weeks before I finally went back for an unfill. I realized that I have allergies that without the band went undetected. The white yucky stuff I was throwing up was mucus. My food had no where to go due to my pouch being full of mucus. I started taking Claritin (over the counter) and it has helped a lot. I had the same symptoms of pain in the chest when I would eat, then I would throw up. So I would say you need an unfill and maybe ask your Dr. about allergy meds. Good luck to you!
  5. Hi Willow, A PB is a productive burp where you burp up your food while eating. Although every PB I've ever had ended up being a full blown barfing session. The rule is to chew, chew, chew, and eat slowly to prevent PBing. Don't drink while eating your food! I didn't really feel restriction with my first adjustment. It was after my 3rd adjustment that I could really feel restriction. But everyone is different. Good luck to you!
  6. Hi, I am from Ellijay, the North GA Mountains. I worked in Atlanta for a while. I was banded on Oct. 5, 2007 by Dr. Ponce in Dalton, Ga. I have lost 45 lbs. I am so happy I decided to take the band journey. I know I'm on my way to a happier, healthier, new me. I wanted to wish you luck on your journey!
  7. Well...I went to the Dr. today and I lost 8 lbs. in the past 6 weeks. I guess that's pretty good. I'm happy with that. I am now down to 191. I'm well on my way now to a new me. I feel so much better! I just hope this fill works out....hope I'm not too tight again! Guess we will find out soon!

  10. I was also banded in Oct. 2007. I had my 6th fill and had some issues with being able to keep liquids down. I went 2 weeks and finally said I had enough. Found out I have allergy issues and my pouch was full of mucus so when I would eat and drink there was no place for the food so it would come back up along with all the mucus in my pouch. I had to get an unfill and start taking Claritin. It has helped me! I hope you get straightened out soon.....and I am so sorry to hear about you losing your baby! That's a terrible thing to have to go through...I've been there to.

  13. I did not have to do a pre-op diet either. My BMI was 40. The pre-op diet is to shrink the liver so the stomach can be accessed more easily. So if you have less weight to lose you may not have needed the pre-op diet. Good Luck to you on your journey!
  14. That is ONEDERFUL!!!!!! CONGRATS!!! I know this is not an easy journey and every milestone should be recognized, but that is a big one! I'm happy for you.

Yes..I have had the mucus problem. I tried Mucinex because my nurse told me that should help but it did not help me. I went for 2 weeks after my adjustment and threw up everything I put in my mouth and usually after just a couple bites. I finally went and had some fluid removed from my band and my nurse told me to start taking an allergy medicine like Claritin or something perscribed by my family dr. I bought Claritin over the counter and that has helped...I still have some mucus but I'm hoping it clears up once I've been on the meds long enough. I know it was rough for 2 weeks dealing with throwing up each time I would try to eat. I hope you to get some relief and I wish you the best!

Ok...after 2 weeks of throwing up everything I put in my mouth I decided I was too tight. I went in and got a slight unfill and learned that I may have allergies which is causing a lot of nasty build up in my pouch so the food had no place to go. I now have to take an allergy medicine daily and hopefully that will help. I got a slight unfill and was able to eat chicken last night and keep in down. I had lost 5 lbs. in less than 2 weeks...that was good, but I don't want to chance a slippage from throwing up so much. Better to take it slow and do it right!

  18. My dr says only clear liquids at least 4 hours before each fill. You can also check out my profile to see other info. on fills / adjustments. It's posted as a message on my profile...just click on the link above the message.

I went in for my 6th fill 2 weeks ago and my nurse actually did my fill. She was "aggressive" as you have said. I have not been able to eat solids without throwing up for 2 weeks. I am dizzy and feel sick when I wake up each day. I am hoping to go in today for a slight unfill. I think it is best to be modest with fills to avoid being sick and having to make a trip back for an unfill. Good luck to you in your journey!

  21. I did not have insurance but I knew that lap band was right for me so I was self pay. I would do it all over again! I have lost 40 lbs. since October 2007 and I feel so much better about myself and my health! I hope that you will research to find a really good doctor. That can make a huge difference in how you do if you have the surgery! I wish you all the best!
  22. October 5, 2007 235 lbs. March 2008 199 lbs.
  23. I think childhood obesity is raging out of control. I know I struggled with my weight from the time I was about 9. My dad was verbally abusive about my weight and still is and I am 33 years old. There is a wrong way and a right way to talk to your kids about their weight. My 7 year old daughter can eat twice as much as I can IF I LET HER. I do not let my children eat more than they should because I'm afraid she will have to battle the buldge like I have all my life. She's learning to eat healthy by my new eating habits. She loves salad and things that are really good for her so we are learning to eat healthy together and I'm keeping her active! She plays softball and takes Tumble. We go on bike rides and walks together. I know from experience how miserable I was being overweight growing up and I don't want her to have to deal with those issues. I would suggest that you try to get your daughter active and help teach her the right foods to eat, even if you have to learn that before you teach her. That's what I've had to do. Good luck to you and your daughter!
