  1. I have read a lot on this site and most people had to lose 25-50 lbs before their surgery. My nutritionist only wants me to lose 5 before the surgery. I never could understand why my requirements could be so different.
  2. Mel, I am so sorry to hear about this. When did you start this journey? I ask because I began in August and still don't have a date, still going to a NUT visit, still waiting. It is hard to continue to diet for another month, but maybe you won't have to do it as intensely as you've done in the past.
  3. It changes often when I read that some people get a scheduled date in just 2-3 months and others in 6 months. Not know a clear process bothers me greatly, but I blow it out.
  4. Probably 1 month before going to the info session. Researched, and researched prior to that.
  5. Yea, I wonder about this all the time. I am a Water chugger. Currently, I fill my 24oz bottle up and chug half, wait for about 30 minutes and chug the other half. In the evening, I fill a 32oz bottle twice and and I chug one and a half down during the evening. I do not sip my water and I am sure this will stop and I will have to learn another approach to getting my liquids in.
  6. Cracking up over here!!! It's like when you buy a new car thinking that you have the best color and the newest, that all of a sudden, you see your car everywhere too much, hee, hee, hee
  7. I like to have fun, but honestly, I think you should have your thyroid checked. At least it would help you eliminate issues from the start. Plus, I have read before that we eat 3 meals a day to keep our metabolism revved up and for fat burn. It will be a necessity after the surgery so you don't go back in the hospital for something more serious.
  8. Girl, I was told that they want me to lose 5 lbs before surgery. So what did I do? I have been food honeymooning (eating everything I can find that I will miss) instead and now I have to lose 7 lbs. At this rate, if I don't get a date, I'm gonna need to lose 10 - 15 lbs. I asked her about that and she said everyone does it. People are saying goodbye to the foods they like most. Like today, since I had a rough day at work, I want to go to my favorite place Taco Bell and chow down on an Extra Grilled Stuffed Burrito. I'm an emotional eater. I know this. This will be my challenge when I have the surgery for sure. So with that being said, do you follow your doctors rules by eating 3 meals per day and quit smoking or do you do what you do to make it to surgery? I feel that I could easily do a liquid slim fast diet and drink a lot of Water and lose the 5lb that they want but I'm not willing to do that until I get approval from insurance or meet with the doctor for a date. Am I wrong by saying this? Maybe, but I know my body best. Good Luck with your decision!
  9. I actually took my husband with me to the info session and although I knew I wanted the sleeve, I wanted him to see and hear the information about all surgeries. He was the one that told me that if it were him he would go with the sleeve and his reasoning is because the band has ongoing procedures and it is something foreign in the body that could cause problems, the RNY is cutting in two areas and you're left with the stomach just staying there, plus all the dumping, etc., but the sleeve seemed to him to be a better option. I would have chose the sleeve without his input however.
  10. That doesn't sound quite right. I would have him see another surgeon if possible. Bile has a different color and if that's the case it's probably an infection. Great weight loss but what difference does it make if he feels sick all the time. Good Luck!
  11. That's fast! I went to my info session on Aug 14 and done everything else and still no date given. Be happy
  12. Are you gaining any weight?
  13. I have heard that when this happens you need to drink water or a protein shake.
  14. Look, only you know what you need to lose when you take it all off. I'm trying to figure out what I will tell people when I start dropping the pounds without lying. Good Luck!
  15. Onedaycloser, do you mind sharing which insurance you carry? I have Health Partners.
  16. Mine is very vain. If you can guess it, I will let you into my W O R L D.....muhaahaahaha~
  17. I already have low hanging fruit (wings) so I know that I will need something to tone it up after WLS, however; I don't want the upper arm surgery that leaves a long scar. Has anyone experienced with the laser/lipo surgery for this?
  18. I have heard that when these types of things happen you need to make sure that you are drinking all your Water. Try that and see.
  19. Look, everyone says it is a tool and tools fix things not people. People are intricate which requires mental capacity to achieve goals. I am saying this because I know me and I know that there will be some struggle. I am hoping that my smaller pouch will keep my overeater within in check, but I also hope that I will make smarter choices since I can only eat smaller amounts. I have been told by my nutritionist and by my psychologist that I can make a visit with them when things get tough. It's a doctor's visit that's worth the co-pay. Good luck to you on your journey!
  20. BladeFox posted a blog entry in Pre-Op Blues
My blues comes from my own reaction at the doctors office when they didn't look at me and say, "ma'am we would like to recommend the surgery for you soon, within the next two weeks, from the looks of you, you desperately need it." I assumed that most pre-sleevers feel the same way because why else would we now turn for help in this way if it weren't for medical conditions, lack of mobility and having tried several diets that failed to help keep the weight off. Couldn't they see in my eyes the desperation other patients experienced when walking through their door? My subtle yet humble expression that I need them to feel my pain and the urgency of placing me at the top of their list? Couldn't they see my obesity and hear my knees crack while getting up from the waiting room chair, the anxiety of wanting to take off my shoes to weigh myself (as if that would help anything,) the difficulty of putting my shoes back on because I have a thick layer of abdominal girth to manuever around, my vague belabored breathing from walking from the car down the hallway and into the office and briefly sitting down just to be told quickly to 'follow me?' My blues is simply my impatience in waiting for all the wheels to churn in the right direction, the inability to wait for the process to work its way out and to allow life to offer up its perfection that will eventually culminate to a new me. Yes, I pine for others to see my outward pain and hope that they will react, but in all honesty, I would rather be the success the doctors and I want to achieve and that may take Time. I hope you other impatient pre-oppers will find this useful~
