I still have trouble gauging how much to serve myself even at five years out. Especially when I am eating things I don’t often eat (in this case quinoa and corn). They filled me up more quickly.

This is ancient grains and sautéed onions (about half and half) with leftover tri tip that I braised in red wine and wosterchire on top and then topped with a little bit of corn and green onions and cilantro. My fifteen year old ate what I didn’t. I added some power greens slaw on the side optimistically but didn’t eat any so cropped them out of the pic.

I will eat the slaw tomorrow for lunch.

chicken salad. Skinless grilled chicken breast, one small one (I often cheat and buy the precooked Trader Joe’s ones), 1 T mayo, 1/2 cup red grapes, about 2 T green onions and 1 T slivered almonds). Before and after and I will eat the rest later.

    If you can’t tell,
I still have a lot of restriction still at 5 years out if I’m not eating sliders or drinking my calories (hi Starbucks, waving at you! And I don’t even do anything with sugar!)

I have to have 5-6 small meals in a day to get in everything I need. And that’s also why I still rely on Protein Shakes a lot. I probably could meet my goals without them, but I just don’t want to put in that much effort every single day. So I have a scoop of Protein powder more days than not—in a shake, in my oatmeal, in a Mug Cake, made into a pancake....

90% of the time, yeah. Apples and cheese, celery and Peanut Butter, berries or peaches on yogurt, melon with nuts and cottage cheese or ricotta. When I don’t it’s because I’m running (literally, like 6+ miles, I don’t do it with shorter runs) and it’s quick fuel.   During the loss phase I didn’t eat fruit at all unless it was when I was running.

I mean veggies if they are low carb ones (ie not potatoes, corn or peas) then it’s not as big a deal, because they have a low glycemic index and Fiber (I do net carbs not total carbs so subtract the fiber) so like at a party I will sometimes snack on raw veggies.

This isn’t the black and white issue that people are making it out to be. Honesty we can’t know enough about your situation.

But here are some more thoughts, take what works for you.

How long have you been together? Is this a new thing for him to notice boobs? Did you used to have boobs and he misses them after you lost weight? What’s the rest of your relationship like?

I used to have ENORMOUS boobs. Like 44G or something at my highest, I never really wore the right size. Even when I was younger and just “chubby” not morbidly obese I was like 40DDD at least. My hubby has always been a boob man.

Flash forward to post WLS I wear a size 4 and was rolling up my deflated tube sock boobs into my bra.

Left to my own devices when I got my plastics I would have embraced a B/C cup. But after 22+ years of marriage i knew his preference matters to me. So I got implants with my lift. Would I have done it if I hadn’t already been getting surgery? Honestly probably yes. Would I have gotten them if I hated the idea just for him, no.

But like all things in a long term relationship, it’s about give and take, compromise, love, etc. Thats one that mattered to him more than it did to me, so it was my gift to him.

So yeah, I won’t keep cheezits in the House for him, but I will get implants. Ha! That is marriage for you.

Also some insurances don't require the 3-6 months of supervised weight loss and visits. I had my four year follow up appointment a few months ago and in the exam room my doc had a chart posted for info with a list of insurance companies and their requirements. About a third of the ones listed (mine included) had none. I had six l weeks between my first looking up info and surgery date. I only had to get all the clearances or might have been quicker. My insurance didn't require much and I have a biggie in California.

You need to look at your policy too they will often spell specifics out.

For example mine only covers if your pannus hangs 3” past the pubic bone and will only do a breast reduction not a lift and they have to remove a certain amount of tissue for it to me a reduction.

If it makes you feel any better, I was curious so just for grins I tried the baking soda test myself. I'm post menopausal and have my tubes tied.
    Guess what? Mine fizzed too.
All it does is show the alkalinity of urine and there are many reasons for that, not just pregnancy. Diet is a big one.

I do plenty of cheese, mostly full fat bc it's lower carb without the additives. I do do the light laughing cow and light cream cheese, the rest full fat in moderation.
I love the Sargento ultra thin sliced sharp cheddar! It's so flavorful you just need a tiny bit. I put a half a slice in a slice of turkey with some cilantro or green onion, squirt some mustard on it---I love mustard and have like five different kinds I cycle through---and roll it up!
Also love Bleu cheese, goat cheese, Roquefort, Gorgonzola--all those big flavor ones you can use small amounts of and add for a BIG flavor!

Yup pretty normal while it’s healing. Probably as much that the area around it is swollen as it is a “dent.” Everyone is different. Mine hurt maybe a couple of days and then were tender for most of a week then fine.

What happened to “I’m leaving this board when I get to goal and people who hang around need to get a life?”

I thought you said it was better for your health to not hang around.

I’m five years out, low carb and have never been healthier. I’m glad we all find different paths to health.

Wow! So let me get this straight...lifestyle and diet modification is a MUST in order to experience long term weight loss? You really won't maintain long term if you continue to eat the things that "brang" ya to the Obesity Ball the first go-round?
I'm actually pretty stoked to see this study. Thanks for posting it. I've believed that we had to change, and change fast and permanently since the year leading up to my surgery, and despite no matter how kind and gentle I shape my responses about this, I'm constantly slammed by "people who know better." People who want their proverbial cake and eat it too...(I'm not talking about the occasional "cheat" meal. I'm talking about people who think this is magic bean surgery that does all the heavy lifting for life and requires no effort or help from them. Who deny responsibility for their own behaviors re: food/alcohol/drugs/etc). This is most especially true on FB...not quite so much here in BP online community.
Thanks for posting this. I'm def. gonna save it!

We get it. You are anti any other food plan but yours. So any dietitians plan that is different than yours is an agenda? Your statement is false.
Many of us have proven successful outcomes that our plans have worked long term. Why does it matter to you that it's not your plan? Out of curiosity how much protein do you eat in a day?

It's a repeated angry rant and a forced eat carb campaign. Some how @Creekimp13 feels none of the rest of us know what we doing. Including all the medical professionals. If it was a thread on why their diet didn't work and they found this as an option (without judgment on other plans) I would have more respect for the original poster if this was an honest talk about plan alternatives
    Question to the original poster
@Creekimp13 Why did your instructions not work for you? How far out were you when you noticed it?

You didn't mention this, but their flour was rationed and consumption extremely limited, as were fruits. You just listed a host of confounding items. Also limited as you mentioned is sugar. So during this time, they limited sugar, flour, fruits, baked goods. They ate high fat tinned meats, high fat butter (limited), real meat was limited, eggs/bacon as was alcohol and beer were limited...many fasted but def observed a calorie restricted diets.
BUT, the issue with the people who do low carb or Keto is NOT that it's our way or the highway, or that we believe and say that ALL people MUST low carb or die...the issue is with having alternate agendas so rudely and repetitively shoved down our throats and lambasted for believing in the efficacy of our woe (way of eating).
The other issue is having our dietary choice misrepresented by nonfactual BS. And most of us are sick of it. Cuz the OP posts it OVER and OVER and OVER ad nauseum. Like it's being shoved down our throats with the force of Thor's mighty hammer.
Most of us who are objecting are all in the same camp: THERE IS NO ONE DIET that is suitable for everyone! LOL. We pretty much all agree that we must find our own path through the woods to arrive at a sustainable liveable diet that turns into a forever lifestyle. And that is A-okey-dokey with us!!!!
I'm glad this high carb diet works for OP and others. I am. More power to them. They clearly did not have the same degree of metabolic derangement or medications that necessitate a low carb, adequate Protein, lower fat diet as I have. LOL. That's ok. LOL. The even bigger question is why then, if they can now magically tolerate all manner of carbs, why did they get so fat they needed bariatric surgery? And how is their lifestyle modified so they won't repeat history?
But I do hope we all agree, that you wouldn't give a diabetic or pre-diabetic heaps and heaps of carbs and expect their insulin levels and blood sugars to improve. At least I hope that's a universal understanding cuz if it isn't, then someone is engaging in magical thinking.
And btw, wouldn't it be fun? Let's all make a pact to meet back here in 3-5 years and measure our success with pics, weights, and tape measures.
