  1. I want to walk across the stage in May of 2013 for my masters and feel good about myself. My goal weight is 125-150 lbs.
  2. At this point, I'm kinda worried for the cardiologist and upper endoscopy. Hopefully things will be fine
  3. Yes. Throughout all this testing, there's been a few issues found so far. So far, there's a cyst that was discovered on my thyroid as well as a faster than normal heart rate (tachycardia). The biggest mystery right now is something is showing up abnormal in my blood work. My blood is showing high levels of inflammation and elevated white blood cells. So far no one knows what's up. Hopefully this is fixed soon. It does happen though.
  4. Like everyone else said...I want to have my own clothing style and not just accept whatever fits. I want to wear colors and not just black. I want to wear jeans! I want to wear heels! I want to look and dress like a woman in her 20's would. Sometimes a lot of the plus size stuff is very "mature" for my age, but beggers can't be choosers! Lol
  5. Probably just trying to move his products along. I'm sure he was trying to make a sale. Like others said, just stick to your Dr. Or nutritionist's advice
  6. Would you be interested in attending college for some classes or for another degree if you have one? Not only does it make you more attractive to employers with a degree or two, but it's good to be busy, and maybe you'd enjoy it in the meantime while you look for work!
  7. Hi, I'm Jenn I figured I'd start a blog to document my journey - the good, the great, the not-so-great, and the downright ugly side of things without an ounce of sugar coating. Background: I'm 27, from Long Island, NY, and a Social Work graduate student going to school in the city. I'm set to graduate in May of 2013. I work primarily with clients struggling with substance abuse disorders and mental illness. This is an incredibly exciting time in my life. I've worked so hard to get to where I am, mentally, yet physically...well, I've kind of disregarded that area of my life for awhile now. I've been through some very difficult times growing up, and have put my body through some damage. After all the work I've spent on recovering mentally from all that's happened, I completely neglected to take care of myself physically. This has become a problem now, because although I'm finally happy with where my life is heading, I feel like I'm carrying a huge weight on my shoulders at all. I guess I kind of am! My BMI is 46. I struggle on a daily basis with 0 energy and horrible leg/knee pains. I have sleep apnea. I can't walk up a flight of stairs without breathing heavily. I hate being seen in public because of my weight. I'm 27, and I'm killing myself with food. I'm not going to wait around for it to destroy me. I'm ready to fight back. I am in the process of doing the (horrible) extensive pre-op testing. I am also doing 6 months of a supervised weigh-in/diet with my PCP. When completed, I will be set to have surgery in December. I am ready to feel 27. I'm ready to BE 27. And I won't take a "no" from anyone, nor will I tolerate any negative comments from people, I'm doing this for me
  8. I also have to do the 6 month supervised weigh-ins. I will finish in December and pray to get my surgery before Christmas and before the new year. The only thing that really, really, REALLY stresses me out is what am I supposed to be doing? Would it be in my best interest to lose weight or to stay the same or what? So many people say if you lose too much, insurance can deny you, but if you gain too much, insurance can also deny you for diet noncompliance. I'm literally terrified that if I do well and lose 20lbs (I'd still be at a 40bmi) that my insurance company would say to themselves, "wow, this girl was able to lose weight during a 6 month supervised diet with a PCP...this proved she doesn't need the surgery"! I'm scared of that. What they don't realize is yes, I can lose weight, but can I keep it off and not regain it back plus 30lbs more in the process? This is something we've all been through numerous times and I'd hate to see my success or lack of success during these 6 months be a factor in my insurance approval or not. So stressful
  9. You look beautiful and so happy! Congrats!
  10. You look fantastic! Such an inspiration!
  11. Get better soon! Is this very common??
  12. I researched the band in 2006, but never followed through with it after my first consult, which I'm glad. I then wanted the sleeve. My younger sister was in the process of doing pre-op testing for the sleeve, so we researched it together. I wanted the sleeve because It seemed less serious than the bypass and I liked the fact that there was less malabsorption issues. My friend in college also got the sleeve and lost over 100 and told me it was the greatest thing she ever did. My sister is two weeks post-op from the sleeve and loves it BUT.... 1) Found out my insurance won't cover any weight loss procedure except gastric bypass 2) Found out most people who get the sleeve end up NOT losing as much weight as they hoped for 3) I figured if I'm going to have a weight loss surgery, I want the BEST one out there with the best long term results, etc. Now After much research, I wouldn't have any other procedure done besides bypass
  13. I'm pre-op and got stuck having to do the 6 month weigh-ins, which I'll complete in December and am hoping to have surgery before Christmas! I was able to do a lot of the pre-op testing (it was a lot) fairly quicker than average because I'm a student and have the summer off. Most days I feel like December will never get here quickly, on other days, I feel the time will fly. I just can't imagine getting any bigger (which has been difficult) between now and December. My sister just had the vertical sleeve surgery. We've always been obese together and centered our lives around food and eating out at new places. She's now down 28 lbs 3 weeks post-op and while I'm happy for her, I only wish it were my time too So who's excited and ready for December?
  14. Day 29 here! Congrats to us both. I notice I don't physically crave cigs anymore, but I mentally crave them during stressful times. We can do it!
  15. I'm nervous for mine! What could possibly go wrong that the cardiologist would not give clearance? Would Anything like tachycardia/bradycardia or a minor heart murmor prevent clearance?
  16. Keep us updated. Hang in there.
