What's Your Hobbies?
egads where to begin. Embroidery, kneedlepoint, sewing, plastic canvas, woodcrafts, painting, refinish & stencil furniture. flower arranging, painting figurines. website creation & graphics, jewlerymaking. Things I have done but haven't in years, weaving, ceramics, drawing, knitting, latch hook, dollmaking, stuffed animal creating, home demolition & remodeling, interior design, writing, theatre set design, woodcarving. Guess I'm a jack of all trades, I am REALLY bad about going through walmart or hobbyloby and spotting a item that sends me on a spurt of creating something. I drove my exnuts thankfully my mate now is very patient and supportive of my habits. Then 98% of the time giving it away to family or friends as gifts. lol. My son is a junk collector and often brings in odd bits of furniture that just needs a bit of TLC to make it useable. I'm the only person I know who has dark purple bookshelves with gold moon/stars motif. lol. And years ago when my stepmom got pregnant I just had to make my baby sis a whole set of items for her nursery from the embroidered quilt, matching sheets, bumperpad, matching doll. embroidered height chart, bibs, and even the crib mobile all done in clowns. When my MIL was still active before alzheimers took her memories, we used to bake/crafts sales often. For her church/clubs. she would mostly make pies and crochet doilies and I would do tons of others things depending on what things I was working with at the time. And we used to have great fun.

All those who get stuck shoveling snow....a question
snowblower, or pay one of the neighbor kids to do it for you. lol. I am sooo glad we are in a apartment this year and they do the shoveling. My only complaint is they don't start till 8am and often many (my kids are in school by 7am) have to go out before that.. The guys at my apartment complex use snow blowers, salt spreaders and a Bobcat on the parking lots. But man it's nice not to have to do more then clean off the van.

Sleep Apnea and Lap Band Surgery
As someone who has had sleep apnea for 15 years now and been on many a forum and BB for it. The UPPP surgery doesn't have a very good success rate at all. And can be a tremendiously painfull surgery to recover from. Allot of surgeons wont even recomend it.. Getting the band and getting your weight under control will probably help WAY more then the UPPP surgery. But you should consult a doctor that specificly treats sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. Because there are many family doctors that don't truely understand sleep apnea.

Sheesh - it's just not that difficult!
I have gotten to the point that I just delete anything with FW: in the title because both my SIL's despite asking then telling them several times NOT to send me all their religious junk or the chain letters refuse to stop sending them to me. I have even pointed out the hundreds of email address I could have gathered because they can't seem to understand what BCC: is for.. o.O Now I will send them an occasional link to a website or a joke or important *REAL* News but the FW: Spam is really annoying. Especially when you have to scroll down 8 pages of forwarded email header junk. Ive been know to spam them back with the address of the snopes.com page telling that their warning was fake but I somehow doubt they pass it on to all their other friends.

Psychics
I know for a fact that some people are *gifted* I have a couple of friends who are. But I have serious trouble believing in any of the famous ones for a couple of reasons. One you just can't turn on the gift like a light switch. Some times it may be days/weeks/months in between experiences. So doing it for a living or making money from it is something I cannot believe in much. Secondly the 2 people I know that have these unusual talents don't like to advertise that they have them. Because of the large volume of negativity that people throw at them. They only tell close friends or family or someone that has a real *Need* to know and refuse to do silly parlor tricks for others amusement. Or just to earn a few bucks. One has taken money from people in the past because they offered it afterwards. But she refuses to charge anyone, she feels it would be a taint on her gift. Its not consistent and doesn't always perform the same way so trying to make a living out of it by charging $$ would be rather pointless.

Rediculous School Rules
my kids school system started *uniforms* this year. And boy was my daughter pissed. I personally think the kids look MUCH better. But I went to a catholic school where you HAD to buy your uniforms from a specific company and you got *Fitted* for them over the summer break so they were tailored to you personally. The school system has a very lax uniform policy compared to that IMHO. But they had to impliment it because of gang stuff and because kids were wearing horrid stuff to school. This is one rule I don't think is overboard. Because current trends in teen clothing have gotten really stupid. I mean geeze wearing your crotch to your knees is something I would have never done cause that meant you were wearing someone elses hand me downs that didn't fit or something. LOL.. Now its fashion. Cant say I understand it at all. now my kids have to wear Slacks kinds of pants in khaki, dark blue, black or brown.. SOLID color polo or oxford type shirts. All Shirts must have a collar unless its a sweater/vest. Solid color socks in white black or brown. Belts. And all shirts MUST be tucked in unless its a sweater with a 2in band at the waist. Skirts/shorts/skorts must be 2in below the knees, And there can be NO LOGOS at all on any of the clothes. But back on rediculious rules. A couple I think are stupid. Kids can no longer carry purses/backpacks to class. But yet if they don't have the proper materials for the class they get wrote up. They can no longer get permission to leave the class to go to the bathroom. This really sucks for girls who need to carry tampons/pads and may need to change often. And since most girls slacks don't have pockets I told my daughter to carry her pads and lay em on her desk and if the teacher complained to tell them she had NO pockets and can't carry a purse so what else could she do. lol. Dunno If she did it or not. They get a 5 min passing period in jr high and HS. Now kids are expected not only to go to their lockers but to use the bathroom, go to the fountain etc. all in 5 min and get to class on time. as HUGE as the schools are these days thats close to impossible. They are not allowed to have hard plastic binders of any kind. And technically they aren't allowed trapper keepers either. But both my kids have them and have not gotten in trouble. Maybe because they are soft ones.

Ice storm!
4 years ago we had to go a week without power due to a ice storm. Sure wasn't fun but we managed at the time we had a gas stove which we used for heat plus a borrowed kerosene heater from a neighbor who didnt lose their power. biggest trouble for us was my cpap machine. My son was able to rig it to work off a car battery thankfully. I learned a few things though. One Dont expect to be able to buy lamp oil, candles or anykind of emergency lighting AFTER the power goes out. LOL.. now I keep plenty of lampoil/batterys on hand. but if we lose power now in a all electric apartment cooking and heat will be a major issue. We do have a emergency backup on the heat but the apartment management couldnt tell me if it would work in case of power outages or not. If it don't its of to my SIL's house where they have gas heat that will work even if the powers out. or my other SIL's who has fireplaces in her house.

not taking my vitamins! Why do I hate taking care of myself????
I still have problems with developing a schedual to take my meds. its easiest in the mornings for me. That I can handle fine. I Just take my meds with my coffee each morning. But evening doses or If I'm on anything that is more then once a day I fail to do terribly. I look forward to getting my band and being able to reduce my meds since I have to take 15 pills each morning and 5 each evening. I found that buying a couple of pill keepers I keep one at the computer where i sit down every morning. and one on my bedside table so its in sight and keeps me better on track that way. But my biggest problem is my 2 insulin shots since it has to be kept in the fridge its out of sight out of mind. years ago when my oldest son started taking meds for his adhd I had a electronic pill reminder. It was a small thing that could be set in hour increments that helped me get in the grove on giving him his meds. That thing was IMENSELY Helpfull but somehow it got lost and I have never found another one. Hrmm now i think its time to do a google search to find another one.

Rediculous School Rules
I can believe it about the legos because years (like 5? I think) ago my oldest son made a paper gun and got suspended for it. Cause he pointed it someone. And I know for a fact that here the schools responsible for the child till they get to your door. In our apartment complex the kids all have to walk up to the clubhouse to catch the bus. And my youngest was the target of a bully. Who would attack him after they got off the bus out of sight of the bus, And the principal told me that the school has jurisdiction till he touches the doorknob to come inside. yea our schools have ridiculous rules but they have had to resort to this thanks to people being so quick to sue the school systems.

I'm mad at australians...
Loved Midnight Oil in the 80's, didn't realize they were still making music. Something new to look up!! Yea!! Damn sometimes being in the USA we can be so sheltered from some really good talent. Ticks me off. I'm mostly into Europop/dance/trance/club kind of stuff which is REALLY hard to keep up on in the midwest where all your radio stations are country or rap. One of my favorite bands atm is from Sweden is E-type E-type - official website If it wasn't for the internet I would musicly starve to death.

Spanking
It is the automatic assumption that punishment is done out of anger that one of the reasons the lawmakers need to stay out of normal people lives. Punishment is not about making yourself feel better its about teaching the child its not ok to do something. And if its something you have punished the child before for and you've exhausted all other possibilities. Then its your final option. I can't speak for anyone else but for myself if I am angry at something one of my kids has done they get to sit in their room till I'm calm enough to deal with it. And usually waited for my other half to get home and we both decide on punishment. Not to even mention I don't get mad easily in the first place. It takes allot for me to get mad. It shouldn't be a common punishment for every little thing. But there are generations of people raised this way and the biggest portion of them are well adjusted people. As long as its not done in anger, does not leave marks, and not used callously I don't have a problem with it. I didn't grow up with my parents and my aunt used switches, belts and her favorite item was her dr.scholls exercise sandals. (wood) and ALWAYS left marks. Now thats what I call abuse.

Spanking
LOL love that idea. I normally use chores for when they get in trouble at school. my oldest used to constantly get detentions etc for mouthing off to his computer teacher. The computer teacher was about 10 years outta date and of course my teenage son was totally up to date with ALL things computer related. So anytime he would *correct* his teacher he got detention and I got household chores I hated doing done. My favorite one is floors and they can't use a mob. Nope good old fashioned scrubbrush and sponge and bucket!! lol Now that he h as moved out its my daughters turn shes really bad sometimes about being late getting home by half and hour to an hour sometimes. Maybe I should add a new chore every 15 minutes late. *Ponders*

PC POlice strike again ! Warning lables on Sesame Street !
OMG those were some of the best shows.. H&R Puffenstuff was one of my favorites. And Land of the lost. Schoolhouse rock!!! or my alltime favorite the MONKEES! And while occasionally while playing word of warcraft I will comment about "Sshhhhhhhhh be berry berry quiet I'm huntin waskally wabbits!" In the guild chat. I can't see where any of the tv watched as a child has prompted me to do anything other then laugh. Other then the constant exposure to sugar/candy/cereal adds contributing to a weight problem. I think there is such a thing as to much sheltering of kids also. Now while i have banned the grand theft auto series of games from our house. Censoring sesame street is just ............................. to much!

Spanking
I think the lawmakers need to stay out of our homes period unless something warrents attention like signs of abuse. If we keep allowing all these laws to take away our own decision making processes then eventually we will have no RIGHTS at all. I gotta admit I do believe in spanking as long as its NOT abuse. But it should be as a last resort or in response to something that seriously threatens the childs safety. When mine were little we didn't bother with a swat on the butt, diapers and all. But I found a smack on the hand was often the best way to prevent a child from reaching at something dangerous. I also have found some really interesting methods over the years to punish the kids. Like jogging in the corner for 5 min and if they mouthed off adding another minute for each offense. Or just standing in the corner and adding jogging if they mouthed off. I think the MOST any of my 3 kids ever got was 9 minutes tops. My oldest would really carry on in anger for a while when he would get punished. There was no reasoning with him. And helped burn off the anger. Then after we could talk about it easier. But NO dicipline to kids can also be just as bad. My step mom rarely disiplined my brothers once her and dad split. And it has haunted her for the rest of her life. Her oldest (My brother is 4 years younger then me. the other 6 years) Had a ton of problems was rebelious and downright violent, drug user, alcholic and stole her blind, etc. and by the age of 14 had her living in total terror. He was even put in foster care for parental abuse at one point. Watching what my step mom went through in the years before I started having kids made me decide I was not gonna let that happen to me. But being abused myself as a child I didn't want that to happen to them either. So we settled on spanking only in very serious cases or as a last resort. And thankfully I haven't had to do it often. I actually had to have a all out fight with my oldest once. Only once. Which I regret in some ways simply because it happend. But also he got physical and had to learn I was NOT gonna tollerate it. He actually came to me a few days later and was like "Wow mom I'm sorry I hit you. I never dreamed you'd hit me back!!" and laughing then he told me he'd send his friends home to get their asses kicked when they needed it. He grew up allot then (he was 17 at the time and no one had any marks afterward). And told me he appreciated it that I had always tried to avoid spanking him if I could. Now he's on his 3rd year of being out on his own and still calls home several times a week, is always calling, IM'ing etc. for bits of advice and just to chat. And working on getting a job closer to home so he can spend more time with us. I'm rather proud of him :girl_hug: Atm he is gotta nasty cold and calling home ALLOT! lol. Sorry to ramble but I guess what I mean is every situation is different. And each child is different. And it should be left up to the parent/family to figure out what's best for our kids and not someone else who doesn't know them or care for them the way a parent does. As for real abusers I have some mixed feelings here. Sometimes I think a jail term is just to tame for some of these sick people. Yet putting them to death isn't a true punishment either. ( I see death sentances as a cop out out of sorts). And it's infuriating to know that many real abusers are out there that don't get caught till its to late for the child.

crazy pets
Right now Butterscotch is our only cat. We lost one 3-4 months ago who was 7 a male longhair named Tommy, he died of colon cancer. But butterscotch who actually answers better to Kitten is the queen of our house. We picked her up as a stray 3 years ago outside a convient store. I don't own my boyfriend she DOES!! lol When he is home she sleeps/stays wherever he is 95% of the time. Her favorite toy. Never the cats toys you can buy her... no not kitten, her favorite toy is a string of fake pearls, she loves the feeling of the little beads zipping through her paws. For the most part shes a good cat. But she has a few strange habits. You CANNOT make a bed with her in the room for she will dive under the sheet/blanket as you snap them over the mattress and want to play. She frequently attacks one corner of the bed and one arm of the couch pouncing and scrambling. If the bottom sheet over the mattress gets slack on the side of the bed she will crawl up under the edge of the sheet to play. She's good though in when she plays with us she is carefull not to use her claws for the most part. But my BF trained her to jump up to him on command and on occasion when she feels he isn't paying enough attention to him she will jump up on his back!! (Don't do that very often cause she hates him being mad at her). Cutest quirky thing she is doing lately is my daughter has this current hairstyle of the back of her hair is very short and she spikes the whole back up. (front is in pageboy type cut) and when she sits on the couch Kitten will get up behind her and play with her hair. lol. Rearing up to bat at it and rubbing all over it. Really aggrivates my daughter for messing up her hair. hehe. She's a window hog though. And seems to enjoy waking us up buy slipping past the curtains & blinds to sit on the sill and holding the side of the curtain open to wake us up. She can't stand for us to have the bedroom door closed. We had to start putting her out of the room when ever we got intimate cause she would without fail sit at the door and howl, one of us get up and let her out and 3-5 minutes later be back at the door banging and howling to get back in only to want out again a few moments later. So now she gets to sit outside the door till we are ready to let her back in. She can be a real stinker but we love her anyhow.

Any one know the answer or where to find the info???
Well now they can grow skin in labs so It might or might not be true. It takes time to grow the substitute skin. Shouldn't be hard to call a nearby burn unit and ask though.

Insomnia SUCKS!
I always get insomnia when it happens to be the worst time to get it. Like having a early morning appointment. My mind starts going and I just can't sleep or I get the creepy leg thing where I can't be still. Or I have nerve damage in one foot due to diabetes that sometimes burns/itches so bad I can't sleep. I have found OTC sleep aids don't do me any good. As for sleep patterns being weight related. Wouldn't suprise me at all I mean its proven that weight affects hormone levels for all sorts of things like our periods. And since sleep is affected by various chemicals in our body it would make sense. Lack Of Sleep Alters Hormones, Metabolism, Simulates Effects Of Aging Some links to interesting reading regarding the subject.

Freaking Doctors
have you had any emergency room visits in that period of time that might have recorded weight? or visits to any specialists that might have weighed you for any reason? even records from programs for weight loss might work.

What happens if you get the flu?
I would think since theres a chance of damaging the band any frequent vomiting would be a good reason for your doc to perscribe meds to avoid this? Or suggest something over the counter maybe? Its a good question to ask your surgeon though for sure.
-
The Disease to Please: or how I lack the ability to say 'No'
Very understandable. And would be more stress free also should be less time consuming. With the wonderfull additions of sites like ebay and other sites like that. You can sell just about anything. A couple of places I buy from the most have both websites and ebay sales. But normally the ebay stuff is the limited edition kind of things but sometimes you can get em for really low prices. And they rarely have the same things on both sites.

To fill or not to fill ......that is the question
it's probably best to stay where you are and not chance being to tight someplace you don't have a doc handy. And I would also get your doc to write up the unfill process or how to reach him for you in case you have to have it in case of emergency.

More gassy and down at night...anyone else?
After the stresses of the day later in the evening tends to be the emotional *Bad* part of the day. Your tired from being up moving around, dealing with people/kids/work whatever. Ever notice when you have a cold or flu that you usually feel best in the mornings? It's totally normal the late part of the day is also when many emotional eaters have the most *bad eating* times also. I've also been told by my kids pediatrition that body temperature also tends to be a tiny bit higher at night. Same as weight can be higher from water gain and your also shorter at night cause of the compression gravity has on your spine. Years ago I was treated for a case of exhaustion and one of the things my doc recomended to me was to make the hours after dinner and before bedtime more *Stress free* to avoid doing strenious things like major chores, billpaying etc in the evenings if at all possible. started giving my son his baths in the mornings instead of nights. Really helped with the major mood swings for me at least and stopped my need to toss n turn in bed for a hour fighting to get sleep.
