  1. so sorry your both going through this. Have they given you any solutions or let you know they can try other things?
  2. Congrats jessica. I wish you a speedy recovery
  3. congrats on a date. I guess it could go either way about telling folks or not. You have to base your decision on who's going to be supportive or not the best you can. Good luck!
  4. Hi John, I haven't received a date yet for my surgery but, I did have Lapband surgery and went through the same thing. Everyone thinks they know what's best but, you know only YOU can make that decision. Think about the reasons why you're thinking about the surgery and why you started this journey in the first place. With any surgery..heck with anything we do with our bodies there are risks. It's whether those risks out-weigh the risk of being obese. If you have too many doubts within yourself, not taking into account what others who haven't had the surgery but, within yourself then maybe you should post pone it so you're comfortable. You don't want to go into anything not having your whole heart behind it. Are you scared and nervous.....sure you have to be. Heck this is no light surgery and if you weren't a little scared or nervous then I would say there is something wrong! I don't have a date and I'm nervous but, I really...REALLY...don't want to keep up with this weight and then some because I'm sure I'd gain more. I already have enough aches and pains that make me stop in my tracks. I want to be able to go places and do things as I get older...I want to retire and actually be able to do things I can't do during my working years. Anywho......people mean well but, heck we've all heard horror stories and if you did your studying and researching for your surgery you saw and read stuff too. The risk is much, much less now than it was even four years ago. They've improved their techniques etc. So think hard and deep....maybe a pro/con list for yourself and take it from there. Heck even call the surgeon, therapist or your bariatric center's help desk and let them know your feelings. I can bet they'd offer help Good luck with whatever decision you make just make sure its the best one for you
  5. I had read somewhere that when the dialation is needed it sometimes takes 3 visits for it to stick. Mainly because your organs are elasticy so they bounce back. Thats why it takes a few times stretching it for it to take. Good luck...I hope you both are feeling better!
  6. Anjela have you had the 2nd one yet? How are you feeling?
  7. How did the surgeries on the 23rd go folks? Hope you're doing well and having a good recovery.
  8. I just tell them I know me and my body better than anyone possible could and this is the right decision for me. I've taken a long time to come to this decision with lots of hours of research behind it. Thank you for your concern but, this is best for me.
  9. Are you eating at regular intervals? I was told today that it's really important to spread it out and get in all the Protein and 64 oz of Fluid each day. Are you meeting the eating requirements provided by your nutritionist? Sometimes are bodies rebel for a while but, stick with the plan and the scale will start moving again.
  10. Good Luck tomorrow! I'll be thinking of you and sending prayers and thoughts your way for a safe and uneventful surgery. Speedy recovery to you!
  11. Hope everything went well. Thinking of you! Let us know how you're doing.
  12. thinking of you! Hope you're doing well after your procedure.
  13. my bariatric center requires you stay in the hospital 2 nights.
  14. Congrats on your surgery. I hope recovery is going well for you
  15. Always remember the final decision is yours. Folks who think it's the "easy way out" or is unsupportive probably has more fear than knowledge about the surgery or the decision making we all have to do to even start this process. It's far from easy no matter where you are in the process. As much as we'd all love to have the love and support of everyone in our world it will never happen and there will always be nay sayers but, in the end.....when we wake up in the morning to the time we go to sleep, WE have to live with ourselves. We have to carry this shell, this burden we've been carrying for so long and the pain physically and mentally that comes with it. The decision is yours and as long as you've made it with lots of insight, research and as much knowledge as you can gain about it......then you're doing the right thing for you. You go girl and do what you know is right for you. Good luck!
  16. Hello Sweet. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Have you contacted your surgeon?
  17. Kay are you doing better now after all that? I mean are you able to follow the plan your dietician/nutritionist gave you etc. I hope you're doing better.
  18. berniec - I never liked veggies either and still have a hard time with most but, you know what's worked for me of all things? Grilling or roasting the veggies. ON the grill I LOVE asparagus..I pick the ones that are very thin, snap off the bottoms, spray them with an olive oil filled spritzer and put garlic powder and a little salt. Then lay them on the grill and cook them well. I like them a little charred so you see the lines. YUMMY. I do the same thing with eggplant, peppers, zucchini and squash. Give it a whirl. In the oven I use the same olive oil spritzer, garlic powder and a little salt on turnips and roast them. Yummmm. I never in my life thought I'd eat those white and purple things
  19. Being on the liquid diet before the surgery helps shrink your liver so the surgeon can move it out of the way easier for the surgery plus it helps keep our intenstines cleaner for the surgery. It's certainly not the easiest thing to do but, you can do it! Just think in a few weeks you'll be on the losing side of surgery
  20. Good luck YoungNY. I wish you the best with your surgery and recovery. Let us know how you made out.
  21. Hey folks....I'm nervous too but, I would think if we weren't at least a little nervous that THAT would be something to be nervous about It's a big step, a big surgery and nothing to laugh about for sure but, if we keep gaining we'll have many more things to be nervous about. So good for you for being nervous. Do your studying, your research and become full of the knowledge you need to help yourself after surgery to the best of your ability. We can all help each other here too I had the lapband and had problems with it. The port didn't bother me at all, the needles to fill the band actually didn't hurt at all but, the band being too tight or too loose didn't help and then the slip was terrible. I'm looking forward to no having to have fills with this. It's a big step and it took a long time for me to stop thinking of it as cutting up my guts but, to think of it as a life saving re-routing The tool that will help me stay on plan and get healthy. That's right...we CAN do this!
  22. Welcome everyone. I can't wait to be on the losing side of surgery. Visiting with the surgeon and therapist Thursday
  23. Hi startingover....sorry I missed your post. It's been quite a journey for me and I haven't been on the boards as much. The recovery wasn't bad although because I had a really bad prolaps I did have to stay in the hospital for 3 days with an NG tube. It got that bad..then I stayed 1 more day because of snow and they didn't want me traveling in it. Otherwise once I was home it was super quick and I was back to work the following Monday. So I've had to start my gastric bypass journey again due to my PCP wanting me to see the bariatric group associated with the medical group she's in. It's actually a nicer place than where I was going and I'm happy about the change now. I attended my information meeting on 3/12 and now I'm seeing the surgeon and therapist on 3/29. They said because this is still considered revision surgery the process will be quicker for me. I sure hope so, because I want to get on the losing weight side of this whole thing. I don't want to gain anymore to say the least. I'm hoping for surgery by summer...not sure how it will all go but, looking forward to getting the help to beat this weight battle.
