Well I was sleeved at 46.. Do I feel 30?? No...,but I feel like a pretty good 47! I can't say surgery turned me into superwoman. But I'm a lot more active and moving around on life is so much easier!

Before sleeving I was a spice fanatic. I piled on the cayenne and ate Szechuan peppers, etc.. My first venture with hot and sour Soup resulted in a trip to the bathroom.
My relationship with hot and spicy food has been discontinued. However, my wife thinks I'm hot and spicy. Fair trade.

I was shopping at a local boutique this morning and decided to try a few dresses for some upcoming parties & showers.
I pointed to one "that's cute."
The woman grabbed me a small.
"Um, size what?? For who?? Me??"
"I'll get you a medium, but you are definitely a small."
....Yeah lady, you're on crack ..... And I fit and bought the size small dress. Holy s#*t!

I notice I hurt more now too. Even just laying in bed, I can feel my rib cage (yes that's a good thing lol) but now laying on the bones they tend to hurt now. I think just before they had extra cushion.

Melting in Az reacted to Jdub in Anybody sleeved for other medical conditions besides obesity?
I had diabetes, have high blood pressure, and high cholesterol and my BMI was 43. I made the decision to have the surgery based on the fact the road I was going down was a dark path for me, and now I'm on the right track. My T2 diabetes is gone, and I'm already reducing my meds for my blood pressure and I'm only 14 days post op. I still remember on my pre-op assessment weigh in, the nurse said to me "Wow, I didn't expect you to weigh that much, you carry it very well.". I didn't know if that was an insult or a compliment!
Either way, keep your head up, you're doing this for a healthier you...who cares what anyone else says!

Melting in Az reacted to Paul11011 in Why I Post aka That guy's an A Hole
I have always struggled both in online groups and in my physical groups when a particular situation presents itself. That situation is when someone is doing something clearly against their best interests as it relates to WLS. I’m talking about the cases where people are clearly heading off track. I find myself at times frustrated and responding in an effort to get those individuals to realize what they’re doing is wrong and at times it has been in a less than tactful way. It has caused me to question why I even care or bother to respond at all. I have spent a decent about of time trying to answer this question for myself and figured I would try to explain it to y’all as well.
I view myself and all of us that have WLS as members of a community. I want every person that goes through this process to be successful and improve the quality of their life. As a member of the community I feel an obligation to help those that I can on their journey. I also have a selfish motivation in trying to help others. I hate that many people in the general public view WLS patients as cheating, taking the easy way out, or that we are just continuing the pattern of laziness that got us to obesity in the first place. I hate hearing the obligatory stories, which we have all heard that goes something like this, “My friend had WLS, lost a bunch of weight and then gained it back”. I have vowed to never be that guy in the story. Here’s the selfish part of my motivation, I never want YOU to be that guy in the story either.
Again from a community perspective we all fail when one of our WLS brothers or sisters does become that guy. We fail together when people go into this thinking it will be the magic bullet and don’t realize it actually does take a lot of work by the individual to succeed. We all fail when people don’t make the food changes necessary and instead think the only tool needed is the surgery.
Maybe I’m wrong and should not view others success or failure as my own. Maybe I’m wrong by not being a cheerleader when people are looking for a little friendly enabling. What’s it to me after all? Sure go ahead, a double cheese burger at 2 weeks out sounds like a great idea! If it doesn't hurt, it must be ok to do, right? Hell let’s wash it down with a vanilla shake!
Sorry I just can’t do it. Guess I will have to become comfortable with my role as the hard ass.
I will extend one offer though. If you do want to know how to totally defeat your sleeve (RNY, DS or Band too) let me know. It’s a road map that is not difficult to follow. I figure that would at least give those inclined a quicker way to regain instead of having to spend all the time testing the waters with various, “I wonder if I can have XYZ”? If you’re reconciled to not trying and just want to jump right to failure then send me a PM, let’s get it done and out of the way.
In any event, I hope this gives a better understand of why I care and view WLS support in the way that I do. I mean no one any ill will ever, but I also will not condone actions that are contrary to being a successful WLS patient. Best of luck on your journey.

Although I'm only 20 days out, I know that there is going to come those days when I'm out and about and end up at a fast food restaurant. I came across this site and thought I'd share it. 7 short pages but has some healthier alternatives, low in calories and fat and high in Protein and also list different fast food places. (Also sure that I couldn't eat one of these whole meals but better to eat the healthier foods even in smaller amounts) (sorry if this has been mentioned before). Hope it helps.

I was sleeved 5 months ago with a 34 bmi weighing 185. Today my bmi is 25 and I weigh 144. It is much slower for us since there isn't as much to lose and my skin isn't bad at all. Good luck to those with upcoming surgeries. You will do great!!!

Melting in Az reacted to determined1103 in I'm doing too much and nobody cares!
I just had surgery 10/21 and my family want or barely help. My house is a mess, I feel claustrophobic. You would think when I start cleaning, cooking, taking care of toddler (cause she can't care for herself), walking the dog, laundry, etc; you would think someone will step up. Then when I ask I get "not right now" then later "I forgot". I'm so freaking frustrated. I can't get no one to take me where I need to go. My income has been delayed no fault of my own. So I have no money. The people I have always been there for are not here for me. I can't believe what I'm going through. I had a plan. What the freak happened. I feel like I'm in a twilight zone. Just had to vent. Time for some serious praying and shutting down some negative vibes.

Congratulations, you're almost there - how exciting. And yes, people like to voice there opinions, I even heard it from a nurse as I was getting ready to be wheeled in for surgery. The comment was (she's not a bariatric patient, she's not THAT big). My thought was why should I have to be THAT big at all, but I ignored her, she doesn't live in my skin nor does she have my medical problems and I wasn't going to get into it then. There's going to be comments that we just have to let roll off. Enjoy your journey. It's your, all yours, and you deserve it.
