Let's get to know the TENS...come on you know you wanna!
If I knew how to post a picture, I would! My name is Barbara. I live in Westfield, MA with my DH Michael. We've been married for 6 years now. (second marriage for both of us) I have two children from a previous marriage, daughter 25 and son 20. I have 3 step-daughters ages 20, 15, and 11. We have 3 dogs, lab-mix, dauchand-mix, and a cocker spaniel. All are rescue dogs. We also have 3 birds, and african grey, a dusky conure, and a blue indian ring neck parakeet. DH's uncle lives with us because he can no longer live alone, and I didn't want him going to a nursing home. He's not totally helpless, just need guidance and reminding of meds, food, and doc visits. I have one brother, and 4 sisters, i'm the oldest of the 5 girls. All weight issues and I have to say, all eyes are on me with my new band! I'm an accounting manager/HR manager/Office manager for a small manufacturing company here in Westfield. DH and I both love motorcycles and each ride our own. I met DH on the internet while I was still in New Jersey, as I was born and raised in NJ. Moved to MA after meeting and falling in love with Mike. Meeting on the internet was an accident. Neither of us signed up for any of those match sites. Funny. I love to travel, read, do alot of crocheting, teaching myself how to knitt. I love to hang out with my friends and my family.

Pain Question
You can shower. Just don't scrub. My doc told me to just let the soap and Water was over my incisions. So I didn't even rub them, just soaped up a wash cloth and squeezed it over my booboos. Then rinsed. The pain will decrease with time. I still have pain in my port area, not as bad as a week ago, but it still reminds me that I"m still healing!

how long does swelling last
I think my Internal swelling has reduced, my appetite is increasing a great deal. But I'm still swollen externally. I will this would go away!!!
-
hungry
Put everything in the blender or food processer. Pudding, cottage cheese, yogurt, applesauce (unsweetened) are all good mushies. I put chicken in the processer and ground it up really fine, then added some fat free gravy. It was yummy.

Before Photo's
I didn't need to take any before pics. There are enough of them around with me in it for that! DH is president of our motorcycle chapter and we take pics on the monthly rides all the time. I'm in alot of them. I don't think I need any additional. I can't wait till next season and the new pics are being taken, then I will compare with this years, last years, and etc!!! Holy Smokes! Who's the chick on MY bike?????!!!! LMAO

Back to work question
I had surgery on Friday the 5th, came back to work on Tues the 9th. I do accounting, so I am sitting at my desk most of the time, except when I have to change hats and get into HR mode. Then I'm up and down the stairs and out on the production floor like crazy. I had no real pain, like you doc said, soreness, gas and bloated. Still bloated and sore, hope it stops soon!

YES!!! I Finally Made it to Onederland!!!
Congrats!! That is great. I can't wait till I get there, it's been years, so many I can't remember since I"ve been under 200 lbs too! Yahoo for you!!!

How hard is it to break a food addiction?
I too am a food-aholic. I've always enjoyed eating. Large portions were my down fall for sure. Since being banded a week ago, I still have my food cravings, my mouth waters like crazy when the family is eating and I'm either drinking a protien shake or eating extremely tiny amounts of yogurt. Right now, I'd say it would be a 10 for me to break my food addiction.

Do you tell people you're banded?
I tell everyone. I don't care who knows, I did this for me. But I have no problem sharing if someone wants to know.

how long does swelling last
I'm still swollen too. I know because my pants are too tight. I'm wearing jeans I wore before I started this journey.....30 lbs ago! I'm uncomfortable. I hope the swelling goes away soon.

True confessions - I snuck "contraband" into the hospital...
I too was very dry after surgery. Both my mouth and my nose. I think the nose was because they had me on oxegen for most of the day, that stuff blowing up my nose made it itch terrible. I finally took it off my self! They gave me hot tea in the hospital to sip on. It was not decaf so just regular. Was yummy. When I got home the next day....i did have a cup of coffee. I needed it! And I have one each morning now.

I have a serious but kind of gross question!
Amy, I'm having the same issues. I was banded on Friday the 5th and trying to go to the bathroom is terrible. After reading these threads I'm going to the drug store and get some if not all of the suggestions! I hurt!

Sleeping with the band.....On Stomach.........
I am only 6 days post-op, and I too can't wait to sleep in a different position. My back is killing me!! I usually sleep on my side, but that is not happening right now. I hope I can return to my normal sleep position soon so I can get some rest. I'm so very tired.

Day 4, post-op...and I'm craving solids!
I too was banded on the 5th. I too am still on liquids. And yes, I'm starting to feel the pangs of hunger. I want food. I can't wait till Sunday, at leasted I get to try some strained creamed soups! Sick of jello, broth, and just protein shakes.

Advice from folks on a full fluid diet...
Amy, my instructions are 5 - 8oz servings of Protein shake. I use skim milk and unjury. Add to that through the day I need do drink 54 oz of liquids, such as Water, crystal light, sugar free popsicles, sugar free Jello. I don't start on creamed strained Soups until Sunday. I had my surgery on Friday the 5th. I can't wait to try some soup!!

Good news UPDATES!
I was banded on Friday the 5th. I'm doing pretty good. The first few days all I did was sleep. But now I'm back to work today. Not bad I would say. I'm on liquids of course, and will start full liquids on Saturday. Can't wait, a bit tired of broth! But in all I feel pretty good. Alittle discomfort in the port area, but nothing I can't handle.

banded yesterday 10/8
Make yourself keep walking. And take your pain meds. I also found the heating pad helped a little. When the gas moves, just let it rip! Don't fight it. It will make it worse.

Massachusetts Bandsters Chat
I was banded on Friday the 5th. This is the first chance I've had to respond to you all. Everything went well. I had a bit trouble getting past the anestesia (spell) as each time I got up to walk I would feel sick. The nurses and DH convinced me to stay the night at the hospital until it was out of my system. Later that evening they gave me some broth, and afterwards I was just fine. I was walking the halls alot. No problem. I came home the next morning (Saturday). I had, and still have, some discomfort, with I take my meds for when it gets really bad. But not much. I take 1/2 a pill and that's it. I came back to work this morning. Hanging in with the liquids, can't wait till I get to creamed and pureed stage! But it is coming. I have one spot on my tummy that is constantly sore, I think that may be were the port is(?) Hard to tell, I can't feel it through my fat! So I have officially joined bandland! I am on my way to a new and improved me!
