BowlingHooker got a reaction from cookier224 in 50's
I had RNY 7/16/13 when I was 56 years old and 329 lbs.
11 months post op, 57 years old and I now weigh 201 lbs.
    Feeling great.
Could not have done this years ago because I was NOT in the right mindset to stick to the rules of the program. My mind is at a different level now. I believe I will keep the weight off. I do not intend to become a "fat ass" again. Being fat is painful!

Had RNY on July 16, 2013 and celebrated the 36th anniversary of my 21st birthday on July 27.
Loving life, looking forward to the future, health is getting better, I've made the right decision in having the surgery.

I love to hear these success stories! I'm 14 lbs away from losing 100 lbs in 6 months. My goal is to get to 100 lbs loss by the end of January. I'm pretty confident I'll make it. Great job!!!

I have 168 lbs. to lose. Surgery is July 16. My brother had the rny this past November and he is now down 150 lbs. So I know it can happen and it can happen in 6 months and not years. I just have to do what I'm told. I also plan to get a personal trainer at my gym for some lessons. I'm a league bowler and the season starts in August and my Doctor said I would be ready to bowl 2nd week in August. I'm in 4 leagues and really didnt want to run around trying to find substitutes. Now I can get back to the swing of things and not miss any time.

Is the liquid hot, warm or cold? During my 1st month, I could not handle ice cold beverages but it got better. It would hurt going down. My stomach would hurt if I tried to put too much liquid in it those first few weeks.
But, just to be on the safe side, call the doctor and let him know whats happening.

Its been 7 weeks since my life has changed and I'm happy. I turned 57 years old on July 27 - Yea Me!!! So far, I have lost 37 lbs and gone from a size 26 to a size 22:
These are the things I have noticed since my RNY surgery July 16.
    1) Menopausal hot flashes have stopped!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!!
    2) No more arthritic pain in my lower back. I can walk distances now. No longer need to ride the buggy in Walmart!
    3) Bowling balls do not fit my hand anymore. Had to get the finger inserts changed to a smaller size!!!!
    4) I'm a "cheap date" now. Husband doesnt have to spend much money on me when we go out to dinner!
    5) Everyone is noticing my weight loss and complimenting and encouraging me to continue.
    6) I have "fallen out of love" with fried foods.
    7) I have "fallen out of love" with Pepsi, Coca Cola and RC sodas.
    8) I am no longer taking blood pressure medication
    9) The entire surgical experience was pleasant (only had 3-4 days of surgical gas discomfort). Incisions were closed with a "crazy glue" type of substance that fell off as the incisions healed.
    10) Finally have learned the consequences behind overeating and eating too fast and not chewing food properly (I ended up in the bed, in a fetal position calling for my mama!!!!!)
I'm so happy with the way things are going. Looks like I'm losing on an average of 5 lbs per week, trying to lose 150 lbs.
My biggest problem: Laziness is still a problem when it comes to exercising though. I just can't seem to go to the gym. In the meantime, I'm walking places every chance I get. Just trying to keep moving.

I'm 7 weeks out and can only get in 2 oz per meal (I try to eat 4 meals a day). If I eat more than that, I'll be curled up in my bed in a fetal position calling for my mama!!!! In other words, I would be sick to my stomach until I was able to throw up.

See, this is the situation that we all have worried about. There are some doctors that have no busy doing this type of surgery. This is a damn shame that you have to go through this and for the length of time you have had this pain, they ought to be ashamed of themselves!
I'll bet money they won't forget to send you a hospital bill.
Sounds like you need a new doctor who've had alot of experience in this type of surgery and the complications.

I had my 2 week post-op appt yesterday. Everyone is pleased with my progress and weight loss (20 lbs.). NUT says I can now start "soft textured" and "moist" foods like chicken, turkey, fish, casseroles, corn or rice based cereals, fresh and frozen vegetables.
    Looking forward to it!

Well, I'm 10 days post-op and feeling really good. In fact, other than the "crazy glue" on my incisions, I do not feel like I had surgery!
I am sensitive to cold beverages so they have to be room temp or hot. I have no problem with that. I cannot do pureed foods. Out of the question. Just the smell of any foods pureed makes me dry heave.
I am existing on grits, oatmeal, refried Beans, yogurt, liver sausage, eggs (and whatever else the surgeon's office gave me in lieu of actual pureed food).
I feel so good, I'm ready to go back to work now. Watching tv all day is driving me nuts! Cant resume bowling for a few more weeks and the season starts in August but I've decided to wait until the beginning of September to start my 4 leagues and I've told all the people who need to know that.
I'm trying to avoid watching my family eat. I cannot cook for them. I nibble. So I told them right now, its about me and I have to avoid foods that will block me from losing weight so for the foreseable future, I will NOT be cooking for them. Hubby will either be forced to cook for himself and the kids or they will be "take out food junkies" for awhile.
Whatever, I dont care. Getting them fed is what brought me to this drastic stage (bypass) in the first place! My son is going back to college in a few weeks and I'm glad because he's Mr. pizza and that is one of my weaknesses. Daughter will be in her 4th year of nursing school and will be very busy so I won't see her much and have to watch her eat.
I just have to get through these next few weeks and then I think I'll have it made with the "food temptations".

I'm afraid to put anything in my mouth.
